  • "We have stayed at Bay Retreat Villas 3 times now (twice this year)."

The accommodation is very good and we always enjoy staying there. However, the cleanliness could be alittle better. Both times this year we had to empty a full dishwasher on our arrival. Under the toilet seats obviously hadn't been cleaned properly and there were tea stains on one of the door frames. Other than that it was fine. Sadly we will be choosing alternative accommodation on the St Merryn Holiday Park next year as the prices of the villas have shot right up and we can get other properties on the site cheaper. We also think it alittle cheeky that we are expected to fully clean the property before we leave. We are very respectful of the accommodation we stay in and would always leave it tidy but to be expected to do the cleaners job when we leave is alittle off considering the amount of money paid. Other than that the property is lovely and the location perfect.

Thank you for your feedback with regard to your recent stay at Bay Retreat Villas. We appreciate you are a regular and you are normally very happy with everything and we are sorry that some aspects of your recent stay were disappointing. Firstly, we would like to take the opportunity to explain about the dishwasher having to be emptied on arrival. This is part of our Covid-Safe policy in order to keep our guests and staff as safe as possible during the current pandemic. The procedures are explained on the laminated sheet in the property. We ask guests to load the dishwasher prior to arrival and to switch it on. Our housekeepers are instructed not to unload it so that the new arrivals can be assured that the contents have not be handled by anyone since the hot wash and therefore to avoid any risk of possible virus contamination. Our Covid procedures are reviewed regularly and it is possible this policy may change in the near future but for now the system remains in place. Likewise, we ask guests to dispose of their rubbish in the on-site bin, to place the bedding and linen in provided linen bags (that are placed directly in the washing machine and have been designed to disintegrate in the wash) and to leave the property as they found it. We do not ask for a full clean as you imply as our housekeepers do this after departure but we feel the steps we take are necessary as we have a duty of care to protect our staff. We are very sorry you felt inconvenienced by some of our Covid procedures. With regard to the toilet seat we can assure it was cleaned thoroughly prior to arrival but we acknowledge that there are stains on the underside of the seat and being the end of the season we have a number of maintenance issues to address in different villas and this one has already been noted. We are saddened to read that you do not intend to book Bay Retreat Villas next year due to the price. Unfortunately prices have increased since lockdown for various reasons and like the airlines, prices do fluctuate according to the demand. This year Cornwall has been inundated with holidaymakers and demand has been high. We do hope you understand our reasons for our procedures and we very much hope you will reconsider a return visit to Bay Retreat another time. Property Owner

  • "CLEAN, QUALITY BED LINEN AND TOWELS."

CROCKERY NEEDED TO BE CHECKED AS SOME IN CUPBOARDS HAD DRIED FOOD ON! NO SCISSORS OR SIEVE. ALL INTERAL DOORS COULD NOT BE KEPT SHUT WHEN WINDOWS OPEN AS CATCHES NOT WORKING, INCLUDING DOWNSTAIRS TOILET. WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE KNOWN BEFORE THAT DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE LEFT ON THEIR OWN, EVEN WELL BEHAVED ONES. PLUS POLICY THAT BBQ'S ARE NOT ALLOWED, AS WE BOUGHT ONE WITH US TO USE. ON PLUS SIDE, ALL ROOMS MORE SPACIOUS THAN PICTURES SHOW. WE STAYED IN NUMBER 4 AS NUMBER 3 FOR SALE. OVERALL ALL GOOD AND MOSTLY VERY CLEAN. LOCAL SHOP VERY REASONABLE PRICES. CLUBHOUSE GOOD SELECTION OF DRINKS AND STAFF VERY WELCOMING. WITH A LITTLE ATTENTION TO DEALS, I WOULD SAY EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and for your comments and please let us apologise that there were some issues during your stay, I will try to address your points. Firstly, thank you for bringing to our attention the items which were missing, as you can imagine, at times we are at the liberty of guests informing us when inventory is missing or indeed no longer working. We have spare stock of most small items (cutlery, crockery etc.) and our team would have been happy to replace any missing items. Regarding the window catches and downstairs toilet, could we please check whether you reported this to anyone onsite during your stay? We have a maintenance team who, all things being equal, are around daily to help and fix issues such as the one's you have mentioned. We apologise that some of the crockery was not fully clean, we do spot check items but unfortunately do not always have enough time to check every item in each villa and also enable guests to check-in at a reasonable time. We therefore have to trust that where departing guests have put away their washing up and spot checks show it is clean, that all items are clean. With specific regard to BBQ's, notwithstanding the obvious health and safety concerns, it is something we know is difficult for some guests but it is a policy that we have to implement. This is because our experience has shown that a small minority of guests put BBQ's on top of wooden furniture causing burns and broken furniture, on one occasion, a lit BBQ was even brought inside the property which as a result needed a redecoration due to smell and stains. We know that this policy is not ideal, but unfortunately we have a duty of care to the private owners of each villa and in this instance, there is a genuine H&S concern regarding open flames. We understand that many pets get left on their own at home and cause no problems, however in these instances, owners are leaving their own pets in their own homes. As mentioned, we act on behalf of the private villa owners and as we do not know one pet's behaviour from another (nor indeed guest) we therefore do not allow any pets to be left alone in the villas - we all know how much potential a pet left alone has to damage property in a short space of time. We are pleased that you found the site facilities to your liking and hope that you consider returning to Bay Retreat, or indeed any of our other properties in the future. Property Owner

  • "I knew where the house is situated beforehand so was aware how "empty" the so called holiday village feels."

House itself was clean with super fluffy towels, but lacked in many things other houses do have. No plastic cups/plates for kids, bare minimum of plates, no washing line, ended up using tree as well as small maiden to dry clothes. Living room and garden much smaller than foto let me believe. Leather sofa super uncomfortable, as was divan bed

  • "Perfect location to visit many parts of cornwall."

Easy key collection and drop off. Enclosed garden for the dogs was perfect. Nicely decorated and modern. Shop on site was handy (only open until 6pm). House is furnished to suit a couple and two children rather than two couples- one twin room and one double room. The twin has no wardrobes. The lounge has one sofa and two hub chairs (not the most comfortable).
