  • "This is an excellently accommodating property with dishwasher, washing machine as well as the usual fridge, freezer etc."

However the heating system was difficult to adjust and the steps down to the property were very very steep. Also, we arrived after it was dark and it was impossible to see the numbers on the keypad to access the keys. This could be remedied with a motion sensitive light by the door.

We had a fantastic time really enjoyed our time in looe the accommodation was really nice the only problem we found was the gate at road level it’s a shame it opens inwards with not much room to get round it obviously in would be better if it opened out but then your opening it onto a road it might be better to enlarge the landing and extra step but it’s not going to be easy but we managed it and had a great time

  • "What a beautiful setting and lovely property!"

Thank you for having us and accommodating our last minute change due to unforeseen circumstances. I have deducted one star on the cleanliness because I felt the bathroom was not as clean as it could have been (the mirror cabinet was really quite dirty inside so we didn't want to use it) and there is a very old open bag of Twirl chocolates in the top left cupboard of the kitchen. This, however, did not spoil the experience for us and is easily fixable. We wouldn't hesitate to return. Thank you.

Instructions on how to deal with rubbish, manage the heating etc would have been welcome. We also had to go and buy a bread knife - a bread board would have been good too! It was frustrating that the WiFi wasn’t very good and whilst the TV was supposed to be Freeview with BBC iPlayer we only managed to access HD channels (again no instructions) - as the weather wasn’t good this was a little frustrating. The lower patio was also in very poor condition. However these issues would not stop us staying at the property again.

The photos are very accurate but the place is even better when you arrive. The house is very well appointed and extremely comfortable in every area. The view from the lounge and balcony are gorgeous, looking across the river to the town and the sea beyond..stunning! We couldn't have picked a nicer place to holiday in Cornwall and we travelled extensively believe me! The setting is spectacular and would recommend this property and area as a great place to enjoy a cornish holiday.

Fantastic views overlooking the river and out to sea. Clean, well furnished cottage with clear instructions on facilities. Situated quite close to most amenities with ease access to town. My children were very happy and enjoyed our time very much. The Staircase is quite steep leading to the cottage a bigger sign might be useful for those arriving in late in the night. Otherwise a beautiful cottage in a beautiful serene coastal town. Would definitely recommend!

Accommodation spotless and fully equipped. Stairs down to the accommodation are ridiculously steep and should be shown on pictures as we were mislead to think the other staircase from the patio was the access stairs. Downstairs patio was absolutely appalling! So disappointed with this area. We had planned to have bbqs and allow our little one to play there. Considering there has been a lockdown and we were paying a premium price the owners had plenty of time to address this area! However the neglected state was shocking! There is clearly a problem with the seagulls as they do not have any spikes or wire on the property or it’s boundaries! Children’s bedroom needs a curtain!! This is a must especially in the summer months! We had to put a towel over the existing curtain rail from (which should have hung a curtain!) No recycling tubs/boxes and no guidance where to dispose of this or that the cleaning staff were happy to sort. Finally this is not a property to accommodate 6 people. Thank goodness my parents had to cancel as we would have been so crammed in and on top of each other!

Shower tray does not drain/is blocked, bathroom radiator not on so damp smell (usually always on 4th visit to this property), shower hose filthy, light cord filthy, carpet in lounge filthy, freezer needs defrosting, now the terrace has been given over to seagulls they kept landing on balcony & railing, some plastic spikes would prevent this, kitchen table sticky, kitchen cupboard doors sticky, no clean hand towels provided only brown stained smelly ones, the bed settee sofa cushions flat and falling off and very uncomfortable to sit on, moved a chair to sit on and spiders/dust underneath it, various cobwebs and spider behind kitchen bin. Everyone loves the view as do we, property now in a tired state.

A cautionary note, not ideal for anyone with mobility issues due to the very steep steps in accessing the property. But once in, the view is worth it, and the place has a lovely feel. Parking is a challenge, but this is to be expected in a busy Cornish town. Be prepared to park in the nearby car park and buy a ticket for the week for £39 or £5.60 for 24hrs.

  • "Had an enjoyable mini-break in October 2020."

Accommodation is adequate although could do with a deep clean in the lounge area. The bathroom too needs some attention - we noted that the broken bathroom lock has been reported in the visitor book for over 5-years and still is is not fixed! (The blind was also broken.) Privacy is important for children - we have two - and clearly no facility to lock the bathroom door is wholly unacceptable. The lack of parking although was expected was a bit annoying when you have to walk for 15 minutes in the rain. There are 1-hour parking bays behind the accommodation but these are permanently taken up by blue-badge holders from the neighbouring residential care home who NEVER move their cars. Like a lot of holiday cottages the owners frustratingly refuse to put up decent curtains. Thin blinds whilst didn't affect us would be very annoying in the summer when it is light early morning. I would recommend this accommodation but with caution and a not to high an expectation.

My only negative would be areas needing more attention for cleaning in the bedroom, few spiders amongst dust next to chimney breast. The only negative was that 2 days before arrival I tried to call both numbers supplied for the caretakers to discuss the key box. I left 3 messages and I got nothing back. I contacted Sykes who emailed me the key safe combination but the lack of contact from the caretakers then caused a problem when we arrived and there were coded padlocks on the main gate that both Sykes and myself were unaware of. Eventually Sykes got hold of the owner who told them the code but also slipped in that "the caretakers should have told me this" which started the holiday on a slightly bitter note. Other than this it was fine.

About the location

LOOE

Polperro 5 miles.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. You can also catch the river taxi between East and West Looe. East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and plenty of tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a lovely outlook across the harbour. Looe’s viewpoint, Banjo Pier, can be reached from the quay and is a great spot to watch the returning fishing trawlers and look across the bay to Looe Island, which can be walked to occasionally at very low tides. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. There is also a great rock pool area at Hannafore that children will love. West Looe has a Heritage Centre that recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and a cafe and the delightful Kilminorth Woods have way marked walks through the majestic oak wood, rich in plant, insect and bird life. Apart from beach activities in this part of south east Cornwall, there are many mining remains on Bodmin Moor and in the Tamar Valley and much of the mining landscape has World Heritage status. This area of Cornwall has inspired writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and much of Bodmin Moor has inspired legends linked with King Arthur. There is much to explore in this beautiful part of Cornwall.
