  • "Well situated and appointed cottage."

Not particularly clean, especially the bathroom. Big problem with ants in the kitchen. Have been charged (without my knowledge) for damage to some bedding though it was an item that neither of us can ever recall having seen in the property. No response by Sykes Cottages staff to my queries about this charge.

Thank you for your comments. It is a shame you did not contact us during your stay, in order to give us the opportunity to rectify for you. We would have been happy to do so. We did contact you regarding the damaged bedding via web message, prior to making the charge. It is unfortunate you did not see this. We hope you enjoyed the location of the property in Burford. • "Lovely cottage which is in an ideal location for exploring Burford and the surrounding Cotswolds."

Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, even with dog beds, toys, bowls and sofa throws. Lots of places to shop and eat along the high street. Most of the pubs were dog friendly. Instruction's were not very clear which garden belonged to the house and if I found the right one had no gate. Neighbours were very friendly. Overall it is a excellent cottage and would definitely return again.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are pleased that you and your dog enjoyed your stay. Dogs are definitely well catered for here! Thank you for raising about the garden signage, we have passed this onto the owner. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Overall a clean and well equipped cottage in a good location, close to pubs and shops and a good base for exploring the wider Cotswolds."

I’m not sure if the owners were aware but , the cottage that adjoins at the rear is being renovated. For five days of our stay there we’re tradesman between 8am and as late as 7pm on one day. They had set up a tent due to the weather directly in front of the kitchen window and were using power tools constantly- not there fault but, had we known in advance we would have changed the booking date. The garden description needs more clarification. It not clear that the garden does not adjoin the cottage. The small plot does not have a gate ? Not so useful if you have a dog. Also one of the other (I’m assuming) full time residents seemed most put out that we were staying and needed to walk to the ‘garden’ with our dog.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your say at Ellie's Cottage. It's in a lovely location, so close to everything in Burford, did you try the Curry House on the high street, it's one of the best in the area!. Thank you for letting us know about the works going on at the other cottage, this is something we will speak to the Owner about and we will also pass on your comments about a gate on the garden area. We would love to welcome you back again in the future and your furry friend. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Although there is a superb park just up the road. Otherwise it was superb with everything we needed in a well equipped house! Burford is a great hub to explore the Cotswolds, with a lovely High street and a array of different shops. Thank you for allowing us to stay

About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 2.4 miles; Little Barrington 3.5 miles; Minster Lovell 5.6 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, it is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located midway between Oxford and Cheltenham, it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits! With little change over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all within ten miles.
