About the location

ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT

Swindon 6.7 miles; Malmesbury 10.7 miles; Bath 36.6 miles.

Situated at the southern end of the Cotswold Hills in rural northern Wiltshire, close to the border with Gloucestershire, can be found the friendly market town of Royal Wootton Bassett. The town was granted Royal patronage in 2011, due to the part it played in the repatriation of military personnel who sadly lost their lives serving their country overseas. The town boasts a weekly market and offers a good selection of local shops and inns, providing an ideal touring base from which to explore the attractions of Wiltshire and beyond. Being close to historic houses such as Lydiard Park, Bowood and Longleat, the ancient sites of Avebury and Stonehenge, the charming town of Malmesbury, Cotswold Water Park and with the historic cities of Bath, Oxford and Salisbury all easily accessible, this area really makes an interesting touring centre at any time of the year .
