The thriving village of Mitcheldean, with its old timbered houses and narrow streets is situated close to the magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are on offer for the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this unspoilt area. Just a short drive away, in the historic waterfront city of Gloucester, you will find Roman foundations, Victorian Docklands and a spectacular Norman Cathedral (whose cloisters were used as a location in the Harry Potter films). Brookbank Folly is unique and a credit to the creative genius who built it from locally-sourced materials. The owners were friendly and welcoming but not at all intrusive. It is full of character, warm, quiet and perfect for two people to enjoy a peaceful rest from the world. The Forest of Dean with its excellent walks and cycle trails is easily accessible from the cottage and we also visited Hereford and the Waterways Museum at Gloucester.

The cottage was so comfortable and cosy, quirky and different. The owners were very welcoming and left us a welcome pack. The surrounding area was lovely, the Forest of Dean delivered a wonderful walk with hooting owls at night.
