  • "Cedars House is a beautiful property, in a lovely part of the country."

There was plenty of space for us to enjoy, and a secure garden, which was particularly important with little children about. Cakes and fresh flowers welcomed us in to the large kitchen and we were particularly impressed with the comprehensive and generous nature of the cooking utensils and the crockery - with 16 of us there we never ran out of plates, mugs or cutlery! Beds were all comfortable, and bathroom facilites adequate. The house felt very warm and welcoming, and our only 'less than perfect ' comment is that the settees were rather stale smelling, and would benefit from a deep clean.

2023 - 02.06.2023. We were a family of 14, 8 adults, 6 children range 7-16 and 2 dogs, celebrating 2 70th birthdays. We all had a brilliant time, plenty of rooms for children to play hide & seek, or sit and relax/read. The dining room accommodated all 14 around the table. The kitchen had all the utensils, big pans for self catering as was plenty of plates mugs, dishes etc. There was 2 large fridge freezers to keep food, wine and beer cold. There was also plenty of indoor board games. The garden was big enough to play football, safe for dogs from escaping and to throw balls for the them. We took our own swing ball and badminton net/rackets, but there was also plenty of outdoor toys there. We took our own paddle boards and kayaks and there was a self launch jetty through the nearby camp site £2.00 per board or kayak payable to the icrecream parlour. Which was handy, we paid for one car (£6.50 for all day) with all the equipment and the rest walked the few hundred yards. I would point out that ‘The Crown Pub’ is no longer a pub but an Indian Restaurant which does take always. The food is excellent. The local shop/cafe is packed with all essentials and there is a Budgen and Lidle a short car ride away. The family would like to go again maybe over Christmas! I would recommend Cedar House especially suitable for large families or group of friends. Suzanne

  • "Great position , loads to do lovely big house."

kids really enjoyed the garden. impressively equipped kitchen, with lots of lovely cupboards to store food in too. bathrooms were a bit tricky, very few showers and the main, non ensuite shower drained very badly and had a tendency to overflow if you took more than the briefest of showers. check in very easy

Thank you for your feedback. We have fixed the problem with that shower draining slowly. Property Owner

  • "We were a party of eight adults and six children."

What a fantastic place to spend a birthday weekend. The house was perfect for us and the children loved the rambling corridors and rooms. All in all a great weekend and just to put the icing on the cake we had snow on the last day with snowball fights for all in the garden.

  • "We all adored this property, would love to know the history of it."

I have a bad back and the bed I used ( room on its own, double in the servants' quarters? ) was perfect but many of the others would have been too hard. Again with the seating, it was all too low for me but I had a seat raiser cushion with me ( ex boat cushion ) and that was perfect. I would suggest though that an occasional chair ( a padded chair a bit higher than the sofas)) would be a good idea . Thank you for all the little extras too. Lovely thought and very helpful. Plenty of room for the 13 of us ( 2 sons in law could not come, one under the sea and the other had no holiday left) we ranged from 10 months to 66 years old. Seven under twelves so the fact that the sofas were older , etc, was a blessing to us. The children adored playing in the garden so you may find a couple of balls when gardening ! ! The house itself is wonderful for playing 'Hide and Seek' in. Thank you for a lovely stay. :)

  • "This is a wonderful older property."

We were three generations of a family and it suited us quite well. There is a lot of ornaments that you need to watch little fingers with. But the location was perfect and this was a suitable base for us to do all the activities and enjoy the wonderful countryside. The photos of the property are accurate, although some of the furniture is older now.

  • "Excellent property for our large party of 16 adults."

Old and quirky but plenty of space and parking, and a great garden for the dog to explore. A few of the beds are not very comfy though but overall we all had a great time. Excellent location for Symonds Yat and the Wye, with some excellent walks and pubs. The cafe at the local shop also great.

  • "Property suffers from serious damp, walls etc are all damp, not pleasant to stay in with two of our party getting colds."

Needs damp treatment or to be removed from site.

We believe this comment to be completely unjustified. We have in fact recently had repairs carried out to the roof at Cedars House and, as part of the work, the contractor undertook a damp survey in every room and concluded that there is no significant damp problem. Property Owner

  • "The house and garden were ideal for our family group of 18, aged from 2 to 70, plus dog."

The location was great for the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. There was plenty of everything provided in the house and plenty of space for the younger ones to run around, inside and out.

  • "There had obviously been a new bathroom fitted, which was lovely, but with the hiccough that it can sometimes bring, we fully understand and are thankful for the swift fixing of a leak that resulted."

However, the house itself was advertised as a 'Vintage stay' appropriate for photo shoots etc. the reality was a house that had broken furniture, old, ripped sofas, rising damp and mice. This was not what we anticipated nor was it to the standard that we had hoped from a 'Sykes' accommodation. Although it was a good location with good sized rooms, the interior would benefit from some attention.

There were a number of minor maintenance issues, which however we reported directly to the owner, whom we met as we were preparing to leave on our last morning. He assured us these would be attended to.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Cedars House."

It was very comfortable and clean, and it's well positioned for some of us who liked walking and climbing at Symonds Yat. Lots of places to visit and have days out. l loved shopping at Ross on Wye, it's a really nice place. My only concern was the large amount of crockery and ornaments which were for display purposes only, on ledges and the dressers. I found it to be a large responsibility and had to put some items out of the way for my own peace of mind. My party consisted of tall adults, it would have been so easy for any one them to have inadvertently knocked something off with their elbows when standing near the dressers. Apart from that we had a really good time in all
