  • "I was going to stay downstairs as I've had an operation on my leg, but the downstairs flush didn't work."

So I ended up walking up/downstairs a lot.The bed is on a slant, the rubbish is not explained well. The rubbish is collected weekly, one week rubbish next week recycling. When we got there, the rubbish bin was full. Leaving bags out, meant the wind blew it around the garden. What a nightmare, upstairs shower is absolutely rubbish. No Internet, if cost us £95 on Internet. So happy the little ones didn't stay, it would have been a holiday from hell. The tv didn't have a lot of channels as stated and was tiny. It's a beautiful home, but for that amount of money, you would expect what you paid for. WiFi shouldn't be in add as its not included. I'm coming to kilkenny 3 times a year, but will be looking for somewhere else next time.

  • "The house was fantastic."

Spacious, beautifully fitted out, light and airy, clean and comfortable, very well equipped. Just one issue. The WiFi was patchy and unreliable so we couldn't use it.

  • "This was our third or fourth stay in Lovers Lodge in Kilkenny, we had booked the house for a week to attend a family wedding."

The house was a really nice place to stay when we first booked it a few years ago but just now it is a bit tired and in need of some updating. The television is very difficult to use and we had no access to any more than 5 channels, we couldn't access any BBC, ITV or Channel 4 television for example. Our bedroom (the master bedroom) had an ensuite shower which worked only in a dribble and a lavatory which gave off a "sewagy" smell, our towels were clean but had the smell clothing can develop when it hasn't beed dried properly or quickly enough. All in all our stay was a bit disappointing this time but with some updating and attention the accommodation could be upgraded to be a very nice place to stay. Its unlikely that we will book to use the house again though.

  • "Overall very nice property, great bedrooms and kitchen facilities."

Very close to the town centre which was convenient. However, if having a good WiFi connection is a top priority for you this is an issue as the property unfortunately has a very poor internet connection. Additionally the TV only has seven working channels, although this didn't impact us too badly. On the whole though a very nice place to stay.

. really couldn’t fault in anyway. We didn’t time how long the walk to Kilkenny was but 2 of us walked back from the centre, while a couple went in the car and the walkers were back first. The owner was just lovely to communicate with too. Would use again without hesitation and would recommend to anyone. Thank you :)

  • "The house itself is lovely but I wouldn't recommend it for families with young toddlers/ children."

The stairs are not carpeted so very slippy and noisy , even without shoes. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms are a good size but again you can hear everything throughout the house, it's like an echo. The bathrooms are a good size too , however the one in the master bedroom upstairs was quite smelly. The odour seemed to be coming from the shower and it left a damp smell in the bedroom. It was a little overpriced for a 2 night stay considering you can't collect keys until 3pm and you have to leave by 10am. This was a struggle with 3 under 3 babies as you need to clean before locking up.

  • "Lovers Cottage is lovely little house to stay in."

It's a good 30 minute walk in to Kilkenny, where you can find lots of places to eat and drink and of course the castle. It has easy access to routes if you want to explore further than the city its self. It has a fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals, washing machine, tv (there is a knack to get the viewing box working and we still aren't sure how to do it, it seemed to be more luck than anything) It has a lovely open fire for those chilly evening and you can easily buy kindling and logs from most supermarkets in the area. Spacious bedrooms with comfy beds. There cycles in the outside shed should you wish to explore the area by bike. The fresh daffodils on the table were a lovely touch. There's a lovely little nature reserve opposite the house and if you want to go out and sample the nightlife, it' easy enough to order taxi's My only niggle is the dog glitter that appeared during our stay if people have allergies to animal hair (we didn't have a dog with us, so definitely not from us) Overall, it is a nice play to stay and Mary kept checking in via email to make sure everything was ok for us.

  • "It is a lovely house in nice setting."

Close enough to shops etc. for convenience but on the edge of the city so nice and quiet. Excellent dog-walking in the park area directly opposite and the adjoining nature reserve was a bonus. We agreed with a previous review that the property would benefit from some coat hooks in the hall. We also felt that towels rails and toilet roll holders in the bathrooms would also be good and a clothes airer for longer stays or bad weather as there is not a tumble drier.

  • "The cottage met our needs very well and was a good base for exploring the area."

It was clean and well equipped. We didn't meet the owner but she was very friendly and helpful on the phone. There is a lot to see and do in Kilkenny and its surroundings and we easily filled our week with a lot more things that we could have done given another week. The buildings and history are very interesting with their own unique twist and there are lovely drives in the nearby countryside. If I had one request to the owner I would say please put up some coat hooks. There was absolutely nowhere to hang up coats when coming back from a trip. The space under the stairs would be ideal.

  • "Fantastic week as always in Kilkenny."

House in a great location. 15 min comfortable walk into the city centre but only 5 mins drive from McDonagh Junction for a spot of retail therapy. Depending on walking capabilities the train station is only 8-10 mins walk too with several trains daily (Dublin Heuston on 1hr 20mins by train) There is a football pitch, all weather pitch and The Ken which is a Biodiversity area straight across the road with a relaxing circular walk around the perimeter. It is brilliant for those with kids who prefer some outdoors energy burning after sightseeing in the stunning city. The Orchard House bar and restaurant is just a stones through from the house with relaxed feel and delicious menu to suit everyone's tastes. The house was more than adequate for our stay, stocked with games, books, WiFi and lots of brochures for nearby attractions. House was spacious and well equipped with bikes and patio furniture in shed for use if required. Lots of towels per person per room provided and beds comfy and clean. It's a quiet area so easy to have a lie in or late breakfast in the garden and kitchen was fully equipped for any dining requirements. As a local to Kilkenny and bringing my children, husband and in laws home it really helped make it a relaxing & enjoyable holiday. Would recommended any age range stay at Mary & John's house in Lovers Lane as there is a downstairs double bedroom & full bathroom to accommodate any needs. I will definitely be booking again when I return to Kilkenny.

Everything you could need was at hand and the large table came in handy for a few games of cards and scrabble that were very kindly provided by our hosts. A 15 minute amble and you are in the lovely town centre which is really worth an explore. Cottage was clean but not immaculate. Plenty of off road parking. You have to pay to dispose of household waste, which needs driving to a dump.
