  • "The cottage was in a lovely spot, and away from the roads."

The place itself was much larger than we had expected - great for our two kids. It was also spotlessly clean, and had all the essentials ready (even the coffee machine had been filled with beans!). It's in a great spot, in a really lovely area. We had an excellent weekend here, and highly recommend it. We hope to be back next year!

Thanks Alex, so glad you guys had a nice time at Rose Cottage. Anna Property Owner

  • "Rose Cottage was a perfect stay."

I have stayed at 3 Sykes properties in 2023 and this has to be the best by far. I booked last minutes over xmas on my own with my Dog due to going through a difficult times I needed to get away and find calmness. Rose Cottage did not disappoint. Kitchen had everything was able to cook each night and relax with my fur baby on the sofa. Rooms are very spacious, clean and tidy. Bed was very comfy best peaceful sleep I have had in a long time. Garden was perfect for my little dog he loves being outside. He was so happy at the cottage and could see he was relaxed and happy which is what we both needed. Thank you Anna x

Hi Rebecca, so glad you liked staying at Rose Cottage. I definitely think it’s got some magic ✨ about it so I’m so glad you found some calm there. You’re welcome to stay again anytime ❤️ Anna X Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage in a rural area."

The heating was set to 14 and 7 degrees when we arrived. So it was a bit cold at the beginning. The remote control for the heating was in the room next to the bathroom and was initially covered by rags. A curtain in front of the entrance door would be great. There is a bit of a draught through the door. We visited many of the beaches recommended by Anna in her booklet. Communication with Anna went smoothly.

Hi Caroline, The heating is on a schedule. It goes between a comfort and an eco mode between waking hours (between 14 and 21 degrees) If a rad was on 7 it’s because it’s surplus to requirement and just keeping damp off the wall it’s on. The cottage is hundreds of years old, so has very thick walls and a thatch roof so I find it’s actually thermally very effective and cosy most of the time, the remote is above the water tank as I’d rather controls be left as they’ve been set. When I visited to check the cottage after your feedback most of the rads were set to 24 constantly which I would have found too warm, especially in a bedroom. I think you’ll feel a draft through most doors if stood next to it but will consider the curtain. I actually removed it as I wasn’t happy from a safety / risk exit perspective. I would also disagree with the ratings on cleanliness and comfort. As discussed on our text exchange glass wear and cutlery we expect previous guests to leave as it’s found but on occasion this may not be the case, we really have no control over that but make every effort to keep standards high and everything as I’d like to find a rental property myself. Maybe for your next stay in Devon you might look at the Pig at Combe or Salutation inn. They do start at £300 a night but I think will be more in line with your expectations. Property Owner

  • "We found Rose cottage to be very spacious, comfortable, clean and tidy."

It was well appointed and there were plenty of consumable cleaning materials available if required. Overall the property was lovely and ideally situated for exploring the nearby Jurassic Coast with the quaint villages and impressive shoreline. The fenced off private garden was ideal for allowing our dogs to be let outside and enjoy the sunshine. We did have an issue where our older dog who was undergoing some treatments took a turn for the worse so we decided to return home for 2 days to be seen by her vet and have scans and x rays taken. On notifying Anna, the owner of the cottage, that we would be away for a day or two she was very understanding and helpful in recommending a local vet and if she could help in any other way. So overall, the cottage and location were ideal and Anna was very helpful when required. We thoroughly recommend the cottage.

Hi Michael, So glad you enjoyed your time at the cottage. We are dog lovers in the South West so hate to hear about any poorly pups! Hope to have you stay again some time. Anna Property Owner

It had everything that we needed for a relaxing few days away. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was clean and maintained. A properly dog safe garden. Highly recommend.

I’m so glad you had a nice time, was worried as the weather wasn’t great but if you look there’s always something to do in Devon. ❤️ Come see us again. Anna X Property Owner

  • "Downstairs toilet seat not fitted properly."

Upstairs toilet not cleaned. No can opener, had to buy one. No teapot, only very small teapot for loose tea, but no loose tea, Only 4 mugs, no teacups. Coffee machine, no instructions how to use. Could not use outside seating or have windows open, very loud music from nearby property until after midnight.

Hi Micheal, sorry to hear you weren’t completely happy. I’m always on the end of a text and happy to jump into action asap. I hadn’t been aware of the toilet seat but it has now been adjusted. The kitchen is pretty well stocked for a small cottage and there was definitely a can opener when we first opened but a replacement has been now put in. I’ll speak to the housekeeper but again I do pay a premium to have someone with years of industry service who I trust implicitly. Not much I can do about the music but again if you’d have let me know I’m on a what’s app group with other residents and could have flagged to ask them to turn it down (they are also a really friendly bunch so sure they would of obliged. Hope you enjoyed your stay in Devon. Regards. Property Owner

  • "The property was nicely presented and very clean and comfortable."

Child gates permanently fixed on the stairs are great for families with toddlers but adults without children like ourselves might find them a bit of a irritation but I guess only if you are using the stairs regularly through the day. We just propped them open. A small price to pay for an otherwise lovely two bedroom cottage in a nice farm based location . We’d certainly use it again

Thanks John, glad you enjoyed staying at Rose Cottage. Plenty more to do and place to explore! Anna Property Owner
