  • "Lovely, well equipped and comfortable cottage in a great location."

Great views of Porlock Bay from the rooms with a lovely area in the courtyard garden to relax. Close to all the amenities and even the parking is easily accessible albeit some distance from the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

  • "I was upset and disappointed that the photos of bathroom were not accurate and the bath had been removed."

I booked specifically for a bath, due to physical/ mental health issues. We did not inform Sykes until we returned as the thought of a potential move , in the bad weather after unpacking, and car parking was not at the property , was just to much. Otherwise the cottage was lovely. Just so dissapointed in the reply from Sykes, £40 refund and saying that they could have found us a similar cottage in the same village with a bath that we could have moved to seemed a feeble and unbelievable argument at the least. Just so dissapointed in them as a company.

  • "The property is gorgeous and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay there The only observations we would make is that there were no little extras we we have come to expect."

Things like a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper etc. This is not a big issue but would be nice to have. Everything else was great in a super location, fantastic views and a brilliant starting point for many walks. We will definitely be back!

  • "A lovely cottage in a excellent state of decor."

Fabulous shower, comfortable beds, good kitchen. We would stay again. Our only gripes were , the advertised WiFi is misleading , there is no broadband at the property an internet access depended on the nearby visitors centre and was low strength, did not work throughout the property and dropped regularly. I ended up committing to an increase of £23/month for 18 months on my Vodafone account to provide stable internet as both my wife and I are IT professionals and regular internet users. Also the directions do not mention that parking is not at the property and is down the hill behind the fire station. We spent quite some time on arrival driving around the property trying to work out where to park. In the end I asked at the visitors centre over the road fortunately they knew where the designated parking was and also said we could unload on their car park. Whilst the parking did not spoil the stay at all, clear directions should be given as part of the directions. We would definitely recommend loading and unloading at the visitors centre. Overall we had a lively time and enjoyed The Pound.

  • "We had a lovely time in a wonderful house and village."

It was really a home from home and was very well equipped. The courtyard garden was magical and it was brilliant that it was possible to sit under cover (covered pergola) should it rain. There were several lovely pubs and coffee shops in the village - even better they offered gluten free options! We would love to go back sometime, which reflects how much we truly loved our stay.

About the location

PORLOCK

Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.

Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.

Note: Friday check-ins are most preferred at the property.
