  • "Lynn and I really enjoyed our week at Mill Cottage Richard and Sue made us feel really welcome and their attention to detail is obvious."

The only issue we had was with the sofas which did not suit our size but otherwise we would happily recommend it to anyone who wishes to explore Dorset from a quiet village location yet having all the facilities .

It is perfect in every way, comfortable, clean, very well equipped and in a great location to see all the places we wanted to see within a reasonable distance of the Dorchester/Weymouth area. Sitting in the garden by the millrace was idyllic and afternoon tea at the Upwey Wishing Well Tea Room is a must.

We are pleased the Wishing Well Tea room cam upto expectation. Property Owner

We are sorry the comfort and clenlyness was not up to scratch - it would have been useful to know the exact deficencies to correct them. Property Owner

  • "Great little cottage in a pretty location."

Within a short distance of Dorchester and Weymouth enabling you to get out and see the best of Dorset. A must see is the Upwey Tearoom literally a stones throw from the cottage with a beautiful water garden outback, with the river flowing past the cottage. Facilities were excellent and the only thing that could have improved the stay was a decent mattress. The large indentations made for a poor nights sleep unfortunately. I don’t know if this is because the mattress is new….that was my only niggle.

We're sorry the mattress was not up to scratch, On investigation it was discovered to be the wrong way up ! It has now been turned over and has been found to be very comfortable by recent holiday folk. Property Owner

  • "Really enjoyed the stay at Mill Cottage in the pristine village of Upwell, a beautiful location!"

Great accommodation from all aspects EXCEPT one.......which was the size of the double bed! (A bit small for us both.....my fiancee is average size and weight....I am, 6' 5'' !!) I noticed a civic award was given, very justifiably to the renovation of the cottage. Thanks for a lovely stay!!

We are sorry you did not realise that a double bed would not suit you but pleased you had an enjoyable stay. Property Owner

  • "Having spent many holidays in cottages, this property was the best."

Ample cooking utensils etc for cooking simple meals. Very clean and comfortable. Location in Upwey close to excellent cafe, the Wishing Well. Many local walks and a 15 minute walk to a bus stop with frequemnt buses to Weymouth and Dorchester. We did not use car for the whole week.

No need for the car is most comendable. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was amazing!"

Full of character, but full of modern fixtures and fittings too. Very clean throughout. Decorated in a cottage style and with excellent lighting, to make our dark January stay bright and cheerful. Talking of January there is underfloor heating which kept the cottage warm and cosy. A great location, tucked away in the village of Upwey but also close to nearby Dorchester and Weymouth. An excellent retreat. The building is part of an historic mill. Power is eco-friendly as the mill stream now provides hydroelectricity via a water driven turbine. An idyllic place in the heart of Dorset. Highly recommend!

We are pleased you like the cottage. Property Owner

About the location

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Please note: The owners live on site therefore the double white gates must be closed at all times due to the possibility of the owners' dog roaming the grounds.

Please note: There is flowing water at the front and rear of the property. Also at the rear, is machinery that will operate automatically without warning.
