Ar Dachaigh is a simply lovely detached house resting in an isolated position within the tiny village of Balemore on the west side of North Uist. The village is a haven for rare birdlife (such as the elusive corncrake) and with plentiful scenery to explore, this property is ideal for a family/families or friends looking for a peaceful getaway to the beautiful scenery of North Uist.

Half a mile down a machair track from the property is the gorgeous Balemore beach and uninterrupted views across to the Monach Isles. Be welcomed by this home-from-home, parking off-road and entering into a property with a well-fitted kitchen housing all of the amenities needed to cater to your culinary needs. Dine together at the two tables provided as the handy utility allows you to take care of all of your sandy clothes. When the evening rolls in, there are two lovely sitting rooms to choose between, both with Smart TVs and welcoming woodburning stoves, making them an ideal space for a movie night in. There is also an office for anyone who needs to work during their stay. The bedrooms are well presented and begin on the ground floor with a king-size with an en-suite shower room and walk in wardrobe. Four further bedrooms, plus a bathroom, can be found on the first floor, including a double, twin, bunk room, and single room, which can only be accessed through the bunk room. Outside, take in the idyllic sea and machair views as you dine alfresco on the patio or barbecue/picnic on the lawn. Close to the property, you will find a convenience store (butchers, bakers etc) and 24 hour fuel. The local pub,Westford Inn, serving beautiful, made-to-order pub grub, is a short drive away (3.5 miles). The scenery of the island is simply beautiful, and offers cycling trails, hiking opportunities, and plenty of sites from which to birdwatch.

Balranald Nature Reserve and The Dunes Cabin (takeaway available) are also a short drive/cycle/ walk from the property. Guests can also visit the Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre or the lovely North Uist Distillery where you can sample local gin produce. To make the most of the incredible coastline, visit one of the many incredible,surrounding beaches, or head over to St Kilda Viewing Point. Guests can also explore marine life from Uist Sea Tours and St Kilda Boat Trips. All of this from Ar Dachaigh.

About the location

LOCHMADDY, NORTH UIST

Balivanich 18 miles.

The village of Lochmaddy is the terminus for the daily ferry linking it to Uig on the Isle of Skye and it is also the main centre of population for the island of North Uist. Lochmaddy has good facilities and services including a selection of hotels serving fresh local produce in their dining rooms. A visit to the award-winning museum and arts centre located in the centre of Lochmaddy is a must, and there is also a tourist office full of information about local events and places to visit. The road south of Lochmaddy will lead you to the village of Carinish some 10 miles away and if you continue on this road you can cross the causeway to the island of Benbecula. The town of Balivanich in Benbecula offers shops, post office, a bank, restaurant, a petrol station and an airport, from which car hire can be arranged. The causeway from Benbecula then leads onward to the island of South Uist.
