  • "A lovely little place that has a remarkable amount of space and is well equippes."

3 bathrooms really make the difference if you have 8 people! Mattresses are a little basic, but they absolutely do the job. Heating system makes noise at night, so had to trip the circuit breakers; owner aware and has had multiple people around to resolve the issue. Still ongoing and only a minor thing overall Kitchen well stocked with crockery etc, but be aware nothing in cupboards from previous guests so bring everything you need. Living area is nice and spacious, with Lazy Boy chairs and the the WiFi is nice and quick. Great selection of classic books if you want to unplug too. Outdoors the beach is close and a brook is through the gate at the bottom of the garden (which is sealed for dogs). Enough to do for a chilled break - Boom Beach, Arctic Convoy Museum and brisk walks beyond the Perfume Studio. The store in Aultbea is better stocked than Gairloch, so don’t travel unnecessarily! Nice farm shop there though, next to the Chinese takeaway. Also, beach in Gairloch by golf club is lovely - perfect for wading and the cafe is fantastic. Decent food and really friendly proprietors. Overall, perfect for a week away with young kids to unwind but still have something simple to do each day.

Nearby (in Highland distances!) there are lovely walks, bike tracks and lochs to explore in our canoe. The cottage was beautifully clean, warm and well equipped. The enclosed garden was great for the dogs. Thank you for taking our booking, we would love to return in the future.

Thank you for the very positive feedback. Ferdie and Elanie do an amazing job every week keeping the house so beautifully clean, it is gratifying when that is appreciated. Thank you also for your card and organic bottle of wine. Kindness just brightens up the day. You and the dogs are very welcome to return. Property Owner

One comment re the lounge - the main lights were too bright so we just put the side light and lamp on, but we could have done with a second lamp in the room or to have a dimmer on the main lights.

  • "The property was extremely clean, very spacious and really comfortable."

The kitchen was well equipped. Nice bath towels were provided, as were lovely toiletries. The only issue we had was with the boiler. It was intermittently making an extremely loud noise. The first couple of days, it was quite rare and only during the day, but then the issue also occurred during the night - so loud it would wake us up (puzzling, because it would occur even when nobody was using any hot water or water at all). After a couple of disrupted nights, we eventually phoned the owner, who kindly attended very swiftly and tried his best to fix the issue. Having not been able to, he suggested we turn off the boiler altogether overnight so as not to wake us up. Still, we would happily return and stay at that lovely property.

I would just ask that a few more cleaning things are supplied, especially if there is an expectation to leave the place cleaned? For example - a mop and washing-up brush/sponge. Surface cleaners were hidden away in the utility room, not under the kitchen sink. Could do with a reading lamp or standing lamp in the living room too! Main lights are very bright. But generally really great place to stay.

There are some lovely beaches to explore in the area although the beach at Aultbea is very stony. We were lucky to have two good cafes in the area The Perfume Place and Ora ha Mara also North by Northwest in Poolewe for occasional lunches but sadly the two local hotels had closed down so if we wanted to dine out in the evening it was a 24mile round trip and most hotels/restaurants were heavily booked, we only managed one evening meal out and that was a disappointment. The local shop in Aultbea is really well stocked however so we certainly didn’t starve. Sadly whilst the rest of the UK was basking in a rare September heatwave it unfortunately didn’t reach us but as we were a party of six friends who hadn’t met up for about six years we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. It’s such a pity that we weren’t there just a week later as I believe the Aurora Borealis gave a spectacular display in the area, that would really have made our holiday special.

  • "The bungalow was ideal for a three generational family group plus dog."

It was very spacious with a safe wrap around garden. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and far more roomy and modern than our own houses! One or two little niggles: no spare toilet rolls, very few dishwasher tablets and no washing powder at all. Not always supplied I know, but in such an expensive house...... The other design feature that I found strange was the overhead lighting in the master bedroom. No real bedside lights for late night readers. We went and bought a light to plug in! Otherwise, despite minor quibbles, the house was very comfortable and supplied all our needs. The village shop provided all our food needs, the area is well worth exploring and the history of the wartime Russian fleet in the Loch fascinating. Some beautiful beaches nearby, serious mountains for the mountaineer and tracks for cyclists. Large scale maps are useful for exploring. Not far to Poolewe and Gairloch for more eateries and shops and the Inverewe Gardens. We were very lucky with glorious weather and NO midges!!

All appliances worked very well and the generous size of the accommodation and the books and games provided meant that you were never bored or short of something to do. The only thing missing was a nice eating place in the village like the hotel which has sadly closed but this is obviously nothing to do with the cottage and how wonderful it was and we found plenty of cafes in the surrounding areas to make up for it. Watching the sunset every evening from the steps beside the hotel is worth the price of the holiday alone. Thank you for a great holiday.

  • "While this cottage was well equipped and very well presented, the description on the Sykes website states that there is a hotel/pub nearby."

This is not the case, since this hotel closed some weeks ago, so there is no facility for an evening meal in the village. The nearest possibility for a meal after six o'clock is either Poolewe (limited), or Gairloch, which is a 25 mile round trip. One of the main reason for booking this property was the proximity and possibility to enjoy an evening meal without having to cook each evening. Because of this, we decided to curtail our holiday, and returned home after four nights of our seven night holiday. We appreciate that the hotel was open when we made our booking some time ago, but feel we should have been informed about such a vital part of our stay. The fact that the website still states: "guests will appreciate the friendly local facilities with a busy hotel", is completely misleading. We would not have booked this holiday had we known about this situation. As it stands, we have paid for a seven day holiday, but only got the benefit of a four day stay before deciding to leave.

The heating was on a timer and was set to go, off at a certain time of day, consequently when we arrived home late afternoon/early evening it was off. we called the owner on the Saturday night, There was difficulty in communication because of accents and conveying the problem. He did come out and opened the door. he said it should be on all the time but reluctantly left the door unlocked. This was just as well as it turned off every day and we had to put it on manual override.

Really great home, with everything as advertised - practically perfect for our needs. Spotlessly clean, very well equipped and the welcome pack was a nice touch. Our party consisted of five adults, including two with severe mobility issues, so the accessibility of the accommodation was what attracted us to this specific property.
