  • "This was our second visit to Sheepwash Barn, now under new ownership."

    We had enjoyed our previous stay, however, the improvements made by the new owners were noticeable - new bed, new table and chairs and new decor. We particularly appreciated the welcome pack and the personal greeting and friendliness of the owners throughout the stay. The information booklet was well conceived and particularly helpful, especially the local circular walks. We would return without hesitation.

  • "Lovely property, beautiful location, peaceful and quiet, wanted for nothing, owners very nice and friendly, no issues or complaints, property very well equipped and maintained, beautifully presented and a very generous welcome goodies."

    Would not hesitate to recommend this property and it we were returning to the island, we would definitely use sheep wash barn. Would recommend the local pubs the red lion, the bugle , the hay down all served good food and ale, and friendly service.

  • "Lovely little cottage in a quiet spot."

    Comfortable and very clean. Nice hot shower. Off road parking area which is also secure to let the dog out. Approximately half a mile from shops and pub - it's possible to walk. Lots of great local walks starting from the property. Woukl highly recommend this property.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a wonderful barn cottage sited in lovely surrounding countryside, but still only a short walk from the town centre."

    Throughout our stay the owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage had tremendous character, was very clean and well presented in finite detail with a host of welcoming items. Our time there was sadly too short, but we look forward to returning.

  • "Absolute dream of a cottage very spacious both inside and out."

    Tucked away in a quiet corner yet still only a short walk into town for shopping, Puds and takeaways. Everything you need is there even dog bowls and towels for your 4 legged family members. Dogs not aloud on the furniture or in the bedrooms, but there’s still plenty of space for them. Really looking forward to many return visits

  • "What a wonderful find!"

    Sheepwash Barn was the perfect getaway for us and our 4 legged friends. The Barn was clean, well maintained, decorated beautifully, had an excellent shower (always very hot water) and a very comfy bed for a good night's sleep after the long walks we did whilst there! The location was brilliant, Amanda and David (and Monty) were fantastic and we can't wait to book another stay. Don't tell anyone though, or it will get booked up!!!! Thank you for a wonderful stay!   • "A compact but thoughtfully equipped, comfortable and clean holiday let."

    Copious amounts of hot water and a shower to die for. For me this is the perfect base for exploring the west Wight . The network of footpaths allowed us to get to town in 5 minutes. Freshwater Bay and Totland barely 20 minutes. The dogs were made welcome, they loved the walking and the stream that runs beside the property to paddle in. I would love to call this barn my home,( but no such luck )- Highly recommend to others and hope to return in the future.

Sheepwash Barn, a superb detached, Grade II listed thatched cottage, next to the owner’s home in the hamlet of Middleton, half a mile from the village of Freshwater and three miles from Yarmouth.

Dating back to the 17th century, this delightful holiday home is ideal for a couple or small family who wish to explore this lovely part of the Isle of Wight.

After parking up you enter into a front patio area, where alfresco dining in the evening can be enjoyed after a day out and about or a breakfast before venturing to one of the nearby sandy beaches.

The first room you enter after stepping over the threshold is the kitchen with dining area, then you step into a cosy sitting room.

From the sitting room you take two steps up where you will find a small corridor with the bedrooms and wet room off it.

There’s two bedrooms at this wonderful cottage; a comfy double and a single, and completing the accommodation is an additional basin and WC.

The nearest shop and pub are just less than a mile away, with the nearest beach being a mile from the property.

The village of Freshwater, which is reached via a footpath directly outside the cottage, has shops and cafes, with Freshwater Bay boasting beaches and high chalk cliffs.

Walkers, cyclists and watersport enthusiasts are well catered for in the area, and there’s plenty to see and do within reach, including the charming seaside town of Yarmouth, The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay and Osborne House.

Sheepwash Barn, an excellent Isle of Wight base for whatever you wish to see or do.

Yarmouth 3 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Fishbourne 16 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
