  • "Kentish Knock is a wonderful cottage."

    It is in the heart of Deal's conservation area and the beach is two minutes away, at the top of the road. Everything is easily walkable, via the beach road or Middle Street, which is fascinating. The cottage itself is very comfortable and light and airy. The courtyard area is sunny and planted with beautiful roses. We really enjoyed our stay.

    All necessary facilities available and suitably decorated. The owner provided comprehensive and relevant information about the cottage and Deal to make our stay enjoyable. The cottage is only a short 10pm walk from the centre of Deal. A most enjoyable and relaxing 3 night stay.

    Something to be aware is because of age of property very steep stairs and a couple of different level steps between bedrooms.

  • "We stayed at this gorgeous place over Christmas, it’s a great house with lots of character."

    Comfortable, warm, cosy with a great front room and log burner, great kitchen and everything you could need. Deal is a great place to visit too, a stones through from the beach and town centre, Kentish knock is in the perfect place if you want to escape driving for a few days. Thanks again for a perfect little get away! I would recommend highly!

  • "Great little cottage within easy reach of the town and its many restaurants."

    Very close to the promenade, beach and pier. Extremely clean and well presented with everything you need for that home from home stay. Plenty of places to visit nearby. Parking very easy just around the corner from the cottage.

  • "We had a lovely few days at Kentish Knock in early November."

    Any concerns that it would be warm enough were quickly dispelled, it was very cosy. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were verycomfortable. The location is great being on hand for local restaurants and amenities. We loved the attention to detail given by the owner who provided suggestions and details for eating out prior to arriving. All in all it is highly recommended.

  • "The cottage was beautiful and was perfect for our needs except for two issues."

    1. No instructions on how to use the oven for people not from the UK. Couldn't really tell a difference in the setting dial when trying to figure it out. However, this wasn't that big of deal because of the toaster and microwave. 2. Why list a clothes washer as an amenity when there's no way to easily dry the clothes? Not having a dryer or a clothes line in the garden to hang things made that useless. A combo unit would be better. That's why one star was deducted. Overall all though, it was a great home base for our adventures.

    Dear Susan, Thank you for providing your feedback online and for your very positive feedback in our Visitors Book. I am sorry that you found the oven controls difficult to figure out as they are standard in the UK but I have made a note to place the instructions in a more visible place on the wall, instead of being in the folder, thank you for pointing this out. With regard to drying the laundry there is both a washing line in the garden which just needs to be extended and hooked on to the back wall plus a clothes airer in the understairs cupboard which is our preference as the garden is such a warm suntrap the washing dries very quickly. I would like to mention that a week or so before you arrived, I sent you a comprehensive information email with key codes, parking instructions, a map and a list of local restaurants with phone numbers etc. Personal contact with my guests is important to me and in all my welcome emails I include my mobile number and ask for a text to confirm that the information has been received, however I received no response to my email nor to the second one I sent you. Usually I would also follow my email with a text the day before arrival but unfortunately your number contained no country code so I didn't know where you were based. I so wish you had called me to ask about the things you weren't happy with as they are so easily rectified. My phone number was shown in my emails and in the information folder on the coffee table and my phone is always on. I am pleased though that you found our cottage to be a great base and I would like to thank you for leaving it so clean and tidy when you departed. It was much appreciated. Property Owner

  • "Kentish knock has everything you need, a cozy little house, clean and tidy and ..."

    Kentish knock has everything you need, a cozy little house, clean and tidy and in a great location, beach at the top of the road, shops, pubs and restaurants in walking distance, we found a great pub called the kings head, get yourself a pint of Kentish PIP Cider, splendid pint, Deal is beautiful and mellow, we went to deal Castle, and Walmer Castle to, great day out, also I suggest you visit Sandwich, nice little place, pubs and plenty of places to eat, some little shops there to, we had a great week here, and we'll definitely be back, stay cool, keep smiling, Mick, Michelle and Maddy x✌️x

  • "We loved our stay and were appreciative for the welcome pack and the recommendations for restaurants."

    It’s only a short walk to the beach and into the centre of Deal. We loved going out and shopping along the high street for food for that evenings meal. There are an amazing array of independent food shops including a fishmongers, butchers and greengrocers. There is also a fantastic market on a Saturday which is well worth a visit. It’s a great base for exploring the local area and Walter Castle and Gardens are great to take a picnic. Dover Castle and The White Cliffs makes a great day out. The property has a lovely yard and we ate out there most days. Would thoroughly recommend this property and hopefully will be back

  • "House very clean."

    Kitchen and bathroom perfect. Sitting room ok. TV in weird position but understandable as an old cottage. Beds comfortable but after a few days backs started to hurt. That's due to us preferring a harder mattress though. Stairs took some getting used to as well. All in all a lovely base for exploring the area.

The property

Tucked away in the Conservation area of the coastal town of Deal, Kent, is this pretty, terraced cottage, Kentish Knock.

Enjoying a superb location just moments away from the beach and within easy reach of the Kent Downs AONB, Kentish Knock is a fantastic choice for couples or a family of four.

Be welcomed into the inviting sitting room, where you will find plush seating, a TV, and a crackling woodburning stove, a haven to return to after a day of exploring.

Continue through to the well-equipped kitchen/diner, where you can rustle up tasty dishes, ready to savour over a bottle of wine as you recount the days adventures.

On warmer days (and evenings) why not enjoy your meals in the lovely flower-filled Courtyard Garden.

Completing the ground floor is a sleek shower room where you can freshen up at the end of the day.

Explore the bustling town, where you can treat your loved ones to a delicious meal at the award-winning hotel The Rose, or try 81 Beach Street, The Bangkok Pavilion, Victuals & Co, there is no shortage of excellent eateries in Deal, you can stock up on essentials at the convenience stores and supermarkets, explore the popular Saturday market, tour the Kent Museum of the Moving Image, enjoy a leisurely stroll along Deal Seafront, visit the 16th-century Deal Castle, and delve into history at the Deal Maritime and Local History Museum.

Continue onto Dover, where you can visit the world-famous National Trust site of the White Cliffs of Dover, explore Secret Wartime Tunnels, tour the Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat Gallery, visit Dover Castle, or catch a ferry over to France!

Deal is an historic, Georgian coastal town boasting two castles, both open to the public, two small museums, and two markets held weekly. The town offers restaurants with cuisine ranging from the traditional, to exotic delicacies from the Orient, but, if fish is your desire then why not catch your own by enjoying a spot of fishing from the beach or pier? Deal Castle is an ideal place for children to explore, rugged and exciting with audio guides to help you get the best information, whilst taking in this impressive castle built in the time of Henry VIII. Walmer Castle, which became the home of The Duke of Wellington, and was the late Queen Mother's favourite, is just along the coast with gardens and tea rooms open from April until October, and their scones are highly recommended! Deal was the most important Naval base in Britain during the Age of Sail and although long gone, its maritime heritage is still inherent in its Conservation Area architecture and house names. Deal became a smuggler's paradise during the 1700s, and heritage street maps show where rum and brandy were rolled by casket avoiding the Excise men. Why not take the cycle path from Deal to Kingsdown, a pretty Kent village with views across to France? Here you can rest and recuperate in one of the three pubs all serving excellent food. If golf is your game then there are 12 courses within a 30 minute journey, but Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges and Kingsdown are within an easy distance. For sheer imposing magnificence nearby Dover Castle is an absolute must visit on any visitor's list. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries. Deal won the Daily Telegraph's ‘High Street of the Year’ award in January, and was voted as the number 1 coastal town in Britain by them in November, 2014. Also named as one of the ‘top 30 weekend retreats’ in March 2014 by The Times, Deal is the perfect location for families and friends looking to pursue outdoor activities or laze on the beach enjoying the sea air. Stroll along the cobbled streets, sit and relax outside a bistro or tea room with a coffee, or just gaze out to sea; Deal has something for everyone!
