  • "Absolutely beautifully presented Cottage which is completely surrounded by the most stunning scenery enjoyed through all of the windows."

The accommodation was just so well planned and presented .Downstairs just worked with it’s spacious layout and outstanding kitchen dining area for our family and 2 dogs, always warm thanks to the Rayburn stove which was brilliant to cook on too and underfloor heating. The added bonus too was the fact all three couples had their own bathroom/ en-suites however the only downside was the bed in the double room and the zip bed in room 2,both mattresses really do replacing as support has completely gone. Outside had the bonus of ample private parking for several cars and a pleasant sitting area and garden with stream / beck .The Location is just perfect for exploring most of the lakes as all routes very easily accessed.

  • "Lovely house, with lots of space, plenty of parking and stunning views."

Lovey bathrooms, huge kitchen. Surprisingly warm and cosy for an old house. A few downsides for the feedback: 1. The sofas are getting very old. Worn and unsupportive. OK for a week, but at these prices I'd expect something better. 2. Similarly the house is renovation is beginning to show it's age, notably stained carpets and general wear and tear. Acceptable but no longer the luxury standard it may have been 10 years ago. Hopefully a refresh is planned soon. 3. When we arrived the bedding wasn't clean in one of the rooms (stained, dark hairs). Suspect this was a one-off error and Sykes responded reasonably quickly, overnight. 4. The road outside is a surprisingly busy route for cars, vans and small trucks. Didn't especially notice this in the the cottage, but without any pavements walking the dog or walking back from the pub felt a little intimidating in the dark. Not unusual for this kind of property I imagine, but we've perhaps been spoiled in the past. 5. The big grand oven is a bit of a pain to cook with on a holiday as it is slow and unpredictable. Typically we'd want something quick rather than long slow-cooked food.

We loved the open plan living area which was spacious but at the same time cosy. Thank you for the welcome pack which was much appreciated. It was a shame there wasn’t an easy walk direct from the house for the dogs but obviously this is not the fault of the owners and there were lots of wonderful walks nearby. It would have been nice to have a starter pack for the fire’s just to get us started on the first couple of days. We would definitely recommend this property to others. Thank you

The cottage was perfect for 6 adults and baby. We found it very spacious and well equipped. Would 100% recommend. A perfect location for exploring Keswick, Grassmere and all that the Lake District has to offer. Cooking on the Rayburn wasn’t ideal - a ‘normal’ oven would have been preferred!

We’ve stayed there twice now and we’ll be back again. Everything is so homely about it. We are a family of 5 with a dog, and of us loved our most recent stay. The Rayburn is perfectly fine to cook on, although it is definitely more of an art. The views are stunning, no matter what the weather. You won’t be disappointed if you stay here.

  • "Arrived on a hot June day to a fabulous spacious property."

As we wandered around became clear this was someone’s home as all fixtures and fittings of high quality and in good working order. Garden was secure for our two Border Terriers. They went in beck, which was a babbling stream when we visited and bank opposite was too high for them to climb into adjoining field although large dogs may be able. No livestock in field when we visited. Views were superb and loved sitting , mornings and evenings on the deck, in full sun at all times. We hadn’t any experience of cooking on a Rayburn and as there wasn’t an alternative method of cooking, we chickened out and alternated between BBQ and walk to pub (took our own BBQ) Only thing we felt would have made our holiday complete would have been a couple of garden recliners , which we will bring with us next time , as we shall most certainly be booking again. Were initially worried about traffic noise but turned out not to be a problem. Great location for access to Keswick and many many walks.

We were a family of 3 generations and it was lovely that everyone had their own bathroom. The views from the cottage are amazing. It is lovely to feel that you are in the middle of nowhere, yet within striking distance of so many things. We had a wonderful week there. I would recommend! Only hitch we had was that we had asked for the twin to be made into a king/double (like others) and we arrived to find it was a twin. I contacted the local office who acted immediately and sent round two people who made it up to a double/king and changed the bed linen. I had spoken to Sykes customer services about this request and others, and I must say I had to chase for responses, so customer services is lacking or needs to follow up things with the local company.

Thankyou. Beck View is easier to arrive at from the A66 being no more than half a mile from the main road whereas the directions bring the new guest over the Kirkstone Pass & through miles of lanes.. Beck View is tastefully furnished & there is very little one can complain about. However one couple found there was only one bedside lamp in their room & another found the twin beds uncomfortable. We found everything to be just right including the walk in shower in the main bedroom. On our last day the weather was perfect & we enjoyed lunch sat on the decking( with coats on) soaking up the stunning views. Sunday lunch at The Troutbeck Hotel was very good, also pensioners will be quick to appreciate that X4 &X5 buses stop at the top of the road.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We do find that beds are down to personal preference. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "The home was a beautiful property and it was a very relaxing place to come back to after a walk out on the fells."

There were a few things that prevent me from giving the property 5 stars: The fridge freezer needs defrosting as two of the freezer drawers could not be opened and if items were placed in the fridge near the door edge, they didn’t remain as cold as they should. The carpet into the lounge area from the kitchen has become loose and undone where it abuts the kitchen floor. One of the chairs in the snug is shedding it’s skin and some of it was on the carpet in front of it which meant we avoided using that chair. We also couldn’t seem to work out how to make the snug warm. The washing machine seems to not want to wash clothes too well and got stuck on a cycle once. It also could do with the seal being given a deep clean. The twin bed was not made into a double as requested, even though I rang to check a couple of days before and was assured it had been changed. Despite those things we really enjoyed our stay. The welcome pack/biscuit/tea/coffee display was very thoughtful, the plug in torch lights that were dotted around the house were so good we ended up buying some. The kitchen is one of the best stocked kitchens we’ve stayed in and so great to have lots of space left for our food to go in the cupboards. The amount of toilet roll supplied was also great as often in properties that are quite expensive to rent out, there is a lack of an adequate amount of toilet roll provided, The location is fantastic and we would definitely book again.

We enjoyed the log burner on cool October evenings and the location was excellent - fabulous open views, but just a short drive from Keswick and Ullswater. It was great that each bedroom had its own bathroom. We only discovered the instructions for the Rayburn on the last day (the information book looks like a Visitor's Review book) so perhaps these should be made more obvious. We didn't find the mattresses very comfortable. Other than that, a fabulous stay.

Upon arrival, the property was spotless, well laid out, warm & felt like home. The beds were very comfortable, the showers were a warm welcome after a long hike and our little girl (7 1/2 months) enjoyed the view whilst in the bath. Location wise, less than a minute to the A66, 10 mins drive in to Glenridding / Patterdale. We throughly enjoyed this stay & all said it’s a property we’d happily return to time after time. • "We had a wonderful stay at Beck View with our Adult children."

Watching the horses run around together and sheep every day in the fields was delightful and our Golden Retriever enjoyed watching them for hours . Lovely walks and stunning lakes all around, we enjoyed a meal at the local pub just down the lane. Owners have left so many books to be read so you definitely don’t need to take any with you and there are numerous dvds too. The house and garden were stunning, they do have a problem with flies there in the house but not sure if it was worse there due to hot weather, very hard to cook with the amount of flies flying around and landing on food . Please can a laundry basket be supplied ? Also Heart of the Lakes you need to supply larger shower towels, they didn’t even wrap around our body’s ..I’m guessing you won’t change that though ! Also I rang twice to ensure that the twin be made into a double as you can request this, this wasn’t done . When we arrived the green wheelie bin was literally overflowing and it’s not emptied until a Tuesday so that was rather odd. Overall though we had a lovely holiday , just those few niggles , the owners have a beautiful house .

A 1st for us in the Lakes. The layout and facilities were perfect for a vacation stay; we’re used to an Aga, so the Rayburn was a joy to use and there were plenty of pots, pans (glasses of all descriptions !) for our party of 6 adults. Location was great for us mid-way between Penrith and Keswick, both for where we were coming from and, wanted to be. Fabulous views from the deck over Blencathra. Reverse-fire Mörso stove (kindling on the top) heated up the whole downstairs beautifully and provided just the right ambience for supper. Yes - if I was being picky I’d like a better IKEA mattress and underfloor heating in the bathrooms - but that’s just ownership-lust, not detriment to the property. Lovely, lovely property. If you ever want to sell…..

  • "This holiday cottage was good but could have been great."

The main positive of the house is the beautiful views, the location is also great. Quite hard to locate on a map for satnav as postcodes in the Lake District cover wide areas and the property address doesn't appear in any of the postal databases. This made it difficult to get things like a grocery order delivered. Perhaps providing a 'what three words' location would help? Stunning views from the back of the property over Blencathra. I was worried about road noise when we booked but this was not an issue. The main A road is far enough away to not be heard and the road alongside the house is quiet during the nightitme. Check in and out very smooth keys and property were ready on our arrival. As seems standard at the moment with covid check-in was later (5pm). It was spacious for four people, six would've been more cramped. Beds and pillows not particularly comfy but OK for a week. Some odd furniture layouts and ornaments made it feel like it had been furnished as a rental rather than the thought through design of somewhere that had been lived in as a home. For example fragile looking vases on top of cheap and unstable chest of draws. A few small issues with things in the property, not enough to bother calling someone out for though. (Lamp in bedroom worked intermittently, blind in twin bedroom was loose, chair screws on dining table very loose, dripping noise from toilet flush, sofa felt like it was ready to collapse). Some of these issues I was able to fix myself, although I'd rather not be doing DIY on my holiday. Could've done with some more information unique to the property, like walks in the local area and recommendations for local pubs perhaps. There was a generic Lakelovers folder but it talked about the whole Lake District. We frequently rent cottages around the UK, although we enjoyed our stay here I don't think we would return. If this was my holiday rental I would be making the most of the magnificent views and put a hot tub in the back garden.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback following your stay at Beck View. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the area it really is very tranquil. We do send out detailed travel directions due to the post code covering a large area however major supermarkets will find Beck View when you put in the postcode. We changed the name to Beck View for holiday letting purposes. We will ensure to add this to the travel directions to help future guests. We are surprised that you found the furniture layout odd as it was in fact the owners family home for many years. Thanks for raising the maintenance issues these were resolved following this feedback but we are always happy to attend to any issues raised as we have an in house maintenance team and do not expect our guests to have to do this whilst away relaxing. Thanks again and we hope we can welcome you back in the future. Property Owner
