It had everything you could possibly want & more. The beds were so comfortable, spacious & lovely clean, quality bedding. On the evenings we took advantage of the amazing log / coal fire with plenty of available firewood but can imagine in summer the draw is the garden , especially if you have children or dogs. There is a huge fridge freezer & ninja air fryer , slow cooker & all the cookware & utensils that’s needed. Everything was spotlessly clean & nice quality. The photos do not do the property justice , we ( 3 couples ) had a fabulous weekend away & would definitely return & recommend

The location and all the facilities were perfect for us and it was a new area of the Lakes for us to explore. The kitchen was light, bright and very well equipped. The sitting / dining room was generous and the log burner was a delight. The wifi was not always at full strength but this could be the numbers of people using it. We will definitely be back as even the weather behaved during our stay.

Hopefully we will be back to stay next year. Excellent spot to explore the Northern side of the Lakes. Small maintenance issue which was resolved quickly. There is a bridal way going past the house and through the farm but caused no issues for us. The grounds are excellent and the sunsets amazing from the comfort of the garden. The garden is secure for dogs to roam free which is a bonus. Walks from the farm mean no car needed to have an adventure.

The property ticked all our boxes and it's secluded location amongst the sheep make it blissful for relaxing in. The two dogs loved being able to run around in the garden whilst we relaxed with a glass after long hikes. The Wi-Fi was hit and miss at times but did not stop us from being able to research our next days adventures.

The area is so peaceful but close enough for the nearest town of Keswick, also the lakes distillery just down the road is a must, £18 for the hour tour and tasting was an absolute bargain. The property

Scalegill House, found on a private farm track, close to Lake Bassenthwaite, is a traditional Lakeland longhouse with incredible history.

As with all traditional longhouses, it’s built in a north south direction, allowing for the sun all day and some incredible sunsets in the evening.

The property has been thoughtfully re-developed and has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, the space had been very well utilised and offers excellent social space for friends and families.

The kitchen has a lovely country feel and is superbly fitted out, along with a large family dining table to seat the whole household under Velux windows letting the light flood in.

Enjoy the luxurious lounge for relaxing in front of an enormous log burner and smart TV.

There’s also a lovely conservatory / sunroom to enjoy a morning coffee or a sundowner.

Outside there is plenty of space for children to play with a large lawned garden and a spacious gravel patio with outdoor furniture.

The remnants of Roman forts can be found on the surrounding hills and with views to Skiddaw it is well positioned for exploring right from the door.

Keswick, Cockermouth and Carlisle are all within 15 miles and several great pubs are only a short drive away including the Castle Inn which has an excellent reputation for great food.

The area benefits from being quieter and less commercialised than some of the other Lakeland towns and villages yet is only a short drive to the popular market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. You may well see the ospreys soaring high above Bassenthwaite or see red squirrels in the area.

Why not enjoy a visit to the Lakes Distillery, explore the networks of paths that criss-cross the area, choose from the superb local country pubs and relax and unwind in the one of the most peaceful corners of the Lake District.

For those wanting the high fells, the summits of Blencathra and Skiddaw are within easy reach and the nearby Whinlatter Forest is the popular destination of choice for those looking for some of the best mountain bike trails in the country.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
