  • "Connies cottage is in a great location for walks,we didn't use the car all week."

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay, but we found it to be cold even when heating was on and a fire,we had to make sure all doors were closed behind us into room, kitchen and bedroom to keep them warm. Also poor lighting in main bathroom. The bed for us was hard and uncomfortable. I felt the house needed a proper clean and maybe a lick of paint. And don't look for connies cottage on the outside as it's called Braefield .

Thank you Julie H - We are always keen to receive feedback to improve our guest experience. The week of your stay was a particularly bright but cold snap across the UK and especially in the Lake District where there was snow on the ground and the outside temperature didn't get above zero once. I have checked the Nest app and I can see that the temperature inside the property was a constant 19 degrees. Guests have an option to turn the dial up to 24 degrees themselves, independent of the "intelligent" thermostat, but if I had been made aware at the time I would have been able to make changes remotely and raise the temperature and duration of the programme immediately. I can only resolve a problem if I know about it ! The mattress is admittedly firm, but it was expensive and very high quality; many guests have complemented us on what a good nights sleep they have had - but I guess its personal preference and you must be used to a softer one. STOP PRESS - a new Housekeeping team has been appointed as of today, they replace the professional team that had previously cleaned the property, sometimes twice a week, for the past year. • "Very comfortable property for four (only two of us this time) Thank you very much."

Small points: We couldn't find any IKEA bags for the used linen. The key boxes were all undone when we arrived, not a problem for us of course. If there is an in house vacuum cleaner we would always run it round! Perhaps a decent sized tray for drinks and bread bin would be a plus. All minor things, we did enjoy our stay and would visit again. Thanks!

  • "We had a lovely stay at Connie’s cottage in Ambleside ."

It was a mini breakaway for myself, my mum and family . On our arrival , we unfortunately went past the house as direction from the previous details not as accurate. It is a one way system from off the main road and we missed the off street parking beside the house . On entering the property , we noticed that it had a lovely little garden at the back but unfortunately we had to access this using the front door , our only exit out of the property . The back door had a key safe but the notice said we would have to make contact with Skye’s for the code . As we were only staying a few days we decided not bother.

  • "Excellent location with off road parking within a 5 minute walk of the town centre."

However, sometimes it’s the small things that make the biggest difference. There was no hand soap in any of the three bathrooms, logs weren’t provided for the wood burner(never stayed anywhere before where this has been the case), hand written notes in a folder seemed a bit amateurish and being told to “google it” for instructions to start the fire seemed a bit lazy. A smart TV would have been nice for entertainment in the evenings(having the facility to use our own streaming services) and finally a microwave would have been a very useful addition.

Thank you so much for providing feedback after your recent stay. As you correctly say we are very new to this - you were only our second booking ! As such it is really positive for me to hear what works, what doesn't and to listen to what would make a great holiday even more enjoyable. Just to add however that the TV in the front room is connected to the internet and can easily connect to all the main streaming services, however the wall mounted TV in the kitchen is an older Freesat style TV. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
