  • "Really nice cozy cottage with everything you could need."

We had plenty of space for 6 without getting on top of each other and there were more than enough plates, glasses, cutlery etc. Has a washing machine and dryer which I don't think are mentioned in the listing. The conservatory is a lovely place to sit as well as the living room. If you've got young kids it's worth noting the twin room is downstairs and quite far away from the upstairs bedrooms (wasn't as issue for us). The boot room at the front door was well used as it rained every day. It was great to get the wet stuff hung up without it getting in the way. Only a few mins walk from the middle of Ambleside and several walks you can do without needing the car. Guaranteed parking for 1 car, plus a shared space for a 2nd. We had 2 cars and when we did have to park on the street it wasn't an issue.

The only negative is the internet is patchy and drops off all the time, so watching the television through the smart TV is terrible and frustrating.

This the second time we have been this year and it just gets better but the central heating broke down on the Thursday and response time was excellent fixed and back on within a couple of hours seen the temperature was below freezing most of the time but still had a great time and got away just in time on the Saturday before the big snowstorm

  • "We had a fantastic stay in Gale Lodge, the accommodation could really do with some modernisation and a good deep clean but the space, location to Ambleside centre really makes up for it."

All amenities were in the cottage, 1 car parking space round the back and 1 additional space that is shared by the 4 cottages. It's a quirky cottage so you don't want to lose that but the damp in the en-suite is an issue and you really wouldn't want to use the downstairs bedroom in winter. Points needed to be made but please do not let it put you off as it's a great cottage, we honestly had the best time

Good to hear you had a great holiday. Since your stay we have been busy. The main bathroom has been fully treated, repainted with mould resistant paint and a high power extractor fan fitted. 5 new modern anthracite radiators have been installed including in the downstairs bedroom. The stairs and landing have a new striped carpet before Gale Lodge was deep cleaned. Hopefully we’ve addressed your feedback, thank you. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely."

So we'll equipped and comfortable. We had a lovely week. Just a couple of small things... The latch on the gate could do with some attention and there were snail/slug trails in the living room every morning. Molly (pup) did try to find where they were coming from but to no avail.

  • "Bring an old property we found it quite dark apart from the conservatory and downstairs bedroom."

There were small steps up and down between downstairs rooms and uneven floorboards which could cause some people to trip. This was not the owners fault but maybe would be good to explain in description. Everything else was ideal and we had a great holiday.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a great holiday at Gale Lodge Cottage. We appreciate all your comments and suggestions and we will be sure to pass these on. We hope to welcome you back. The owner relations team - Lakelovers Property Owner

  • "Lovely stay at Gale Lodge Cottage, the 2nd time we’ve stayed here and love the location, so close to the centre of Ambleside with loads of great Shops, Bars, Restaurants and really great access to the Lakes Bus Service which meant we only took the car out a couple of times during our stay."

Cottage is spacious, well stocked with the basics, 3 beds and 3 baths/en suites so plenty for a family of 4 and 1 dog. Private parking is always helpful particularly for loading and unloading the car. The cottage is part of 3 cottages in the same building but is still very private. It’s about 50yds from the main road through Ambleside but still really peaceful and quiet with some awesome views of Loughrigg from the main bedroom window. Would definitely recommend.

  • "This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in."

We loved all the period features, it was cosy, close to Ambleside, had great parking, and the beds were really comfortable. The lounge is packed with books and games to keep you busy and the conservatory is a beautiful place for breakfast or relaxing any time of year. The view of Loughrigg from here is gorgeous. The boot room was a particular favourite of ours; meaning dirty boots, the bike and wet clothes could be aired out of the way of eating and relaxing. The fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom and shower was another bonus. This is a really beautiful, dog friendly period property, we couldn't fault it and we will definitely be back!

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit, and the views. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

We have rented quite a lot of properties over the years but this one definitely tops the list. It is in an ideal position close to shops, restaurants, pubs and great for walks. The cottage has absolutely everything you could wish for. No complaints whatsoever. I would highly recommend Gale Lodge Cottage and will definitely be booking it again.

Made our Christmas special. Lots of lovely memories. Thank you for the goodies. Boiler pressure went down so heating went off but very quick, efficient service from Sykes. Downstairs bathroom - no hot water but water hot everywhere else in the house. Mentioned that when the maintenance team came. Just thought you might need to know. Always a great place to be stay with everything you need. Thank you.

Hi Angela - glad you had another lovely Christmas and great to welcome you back year after year. Sorry about the hot water in the sink - a quirk of next door's boiler breaking down!! Take care and enjoy 2023.... Property Owner

It's a great position & the owners provided everything that was required to enhance our stay. We were very lucky with the dry spell & although it was very cold, the heating in Gale Lodge was very good. The only issue we had was poor internet connection but that is a Lake District issue. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & will highly recommend Gale Lodge.

Well equipped 'farmhouse' kitchen with large dining table.

Bright and spacious lounge, with elegant oak beams, relaxing furniture and wood-burner fireplace, leads to the conservatory and twin bedroom on the ground floor with access to the private patio.

Ambleside is a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells.

Ideal for walking, cycling or boating activities, it is also a lovely spot for contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, award-winning Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs.

There are 2 cinemas, a Jazz bar and the Lake Cruises leave regularly from Waterhead, a great way to explore without driving.

The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed places here, sat on a bridge in the middle of the village.

There is also the remains of a Roman fort, Galava.

One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens.

His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also worth a visit and only a short drive away on the scenic A591.

You can also head over the equally scenic Kirkstone Pass to the beautiful Ullswater Valley.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
