  • "Great central location with short walk to waterfalls in Ambleside."

Kitchen fitted with all you need and more, beds are comfortable and upstairs bathroom is great with shower and hot water. Rooms are all good size and was more than sufficient space for family of 4x. Park permit provided and found available space in main car park every time, c 15min walk (pretty standard for Ambleside). Property could do with a more thorough clean but overall very affordable, convenient and great base for discovering amazing Lakes.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay overall. I have passed your comments onto the housekeeping manager to review - the owner relations team. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage, central location was ideal."

I was worried about parking given there were 2 cars in the group but the owner provides multiple permits and the parking is only 3 - 5 mins walk away, and we did a quick unloading at the door that no one minded. Comfortable beds, cozy living room and a very well equipped kitchen. Only comment - tumble dryer turned itself off after 10 seconds when we tried to dry some towels. Checked water and filters, no clear reason why. There is a drying rack so no problem, just more so owner is aware.

  • "We would stay again."

It's an older property, so I wouldn't expect perfection, but there's everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the price charged was reasonable. The bed was very comfortable and we managed to get some good sleep whilst there. The property is in an excellent location, and whilst there is no parking onsite, we always managed to get parked at the car park about a 5 minute walk away, which there is a free permit for too. The house is set over 3 levels. The kitchen is on the ground floor, as is a table and benches. The living room, second bedroom, and a WC is on the first floor. The master bedroom and shower room is on the second. As there are a lot of stairs for this property, I'd say it is not for the immobile or those who struggle with stairs. I'd have preferred a curtain at the shower room window, and a few more cups, but it was manageable.

  • "The property is in a good location within the centre of Ambleside and is generally a well laid out property with appropriate facilities."

Similar concerns to those raised in previous feedback responses, principally the middle bannister that has seemingly been ad-hoc repaired and is not safe for it purpose of supporting people using the stairs, especially if they fell. We are also disappointed that we raised issues during our stay (bannister, rooflight blind not working properly, and tumble dryer not working) to which we never received a response from the owner noting this information had been passed onto them via Lake Lovers. Overall, the accommodation was suitable for our stay, but we would not stay again until that bannister is properly fixed.

Thank you for your feedback. We will ask our Maintenance Team to look into the banister, and the other points raised. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "A very central location & the car parking permit worked well, although difficult to find a car park space if we got back to Ambleside mid afternoon."

A musty smell as we first entered the cottage, I suppose people returning from a damp day hiking could have caused this. That said the entrance & dining area were practical, although a bit shabby. The kitchen was well appointed, though you had to hunt around for any instruction manuals (cooker, heating etc). No cottage information folder or visitor book which surprised us. Lounge, bedrooms & bathroom excellent. The bathroom was fitted out to a very high standard, a huge modern walk in shower & feature stone wall. We & our dog got used to the steep wooden staircase, though I think many would struggle, especially to the top level. A wobbly bannister needs securing. A few cobwebs in the corners though overall clean. People using the next door takeaway did think the bench belonging to the cottage was a useful picnic spot, personally I think there are nicer spots than next to the cottage wheelie bin! We'd stay at Ghyll Foot again if available, although we saw it advertised "for sale" in a local estate agents window! A new owner, if they decide to rent it out, could make a nice cottage into a lovely one if they gave it just a little extra tlc.

  • "The only redeeming feature about this so called cottage is the location."

It's centrally located but beware the clattering of recycling bins at 6am. You cannot call this a cottage. I'd call it a townhouse. Kitchen and table downstairs. First floor sitting room and bedroom middle floor. Top floor is another bedroom and bathroom with shower. But I'd recommend only using the top bedroom if you're an Oompa Loompa. You cannot physically walk round the bed. The photos have been very professionally done but it's not really what you get. The table and chairs are different - now it's a table and bench. There is a musty damp smell on entry. Dust all over the the light fittings, damp dirty stains in the toilet, the hanging rail hanging off the wall for dear life - I dare not hang anything on it in case it came out of the wall. Wobbly bannisters feel very unsafe walking up and down. Tissue stuffed into the top floor window - presumably to stop drafts or leaks. Window on top barhroom doesn't have a blind - so you're sitting on the loo in full view of people walking outside. No joke. The photos here are not what we got. The photos below are what we got.

Thank you for your comments. The property is a traditional whitewashed cottage. The top floor bedroom is suitable for all of our guests, and other guests have not mentioned struggling with that room. We will look at the photographs shown on the website, to ensure that they are an accurate representation of the dining room. Further to your comments about the cleanliness of the property, had we been made aware of the issues that you experienced during your stay, we would have attended the property to try and resolve them. We will ask our Housekeeping team to investigate your comments further in regards to the cleanliness of the property. We will also ask Maintenance teams to look into your comments. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage."

The property is lovely and the kitchen, living room and upstairs bathroom are great. However other parts of the building are worn and badly in need of repair- especially the first floor toilet- there are nasty rust stains around the window and the plaster is coming away from the walls. Also on the stairs the bannisters are not stable and felt dangerous when using them to descent from second to first floor. In the kitchen the tumble dryer is not working and needs fixed. There is also a very nasty suspect stain on the bathroom chair. All these detract from the quality of the property and I believe challenge the 4 star rating.

The cottage is well located, right in the middle of the town. Easy walk out to some great hikes. The cottage is comfortable, extremely clean, and well equipped. The only thing we didn’t have (or couldn’t see) were the linen bags to put the bedding and towels in before we left. Thank you for having us. I’m sure we will be back.

Really lovely characterful cottage in an excellent position, in fact it cannot be better placed??. Last visit we were disappointed with cleanliness, however this visit it was great, lovely and clean. Gripes- tumble dryer doesn’t work and there’s a big leak in the loo roof which needs urgent attention as it will cause long term damage. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The bannister had stains on it, blood stains on the cushion in the upstairs bedroom ( I turned the cushion over to not see it) , a hairy cushion in the upstairs bathroom, dead bugs in the lamps in the living room, log basket full of empty bags. I also had the bird bathroom indoor knob handle come off in my hand. I was disappointed that there wasn’t a bar of soap offered . I’ve never been to accommodation where this was not offered. The living room needs upgraded as it’s very dated. The bed upstairs was very comfy and the bathroom in the top floor /kitchen is lovely. Location is great! I have booked through Lakelovers for years but this was not to the same standard as before sadly.

The cottage was really lovely and the beds were super comfortable. It was a great little location close to amenities and two lovely take aways which we thoroughly enjoyed also. We would definitely stay again in the future. The only things that I would suggest could be changed is maybe putting a blind in the top floor bathroom window so people aren’t getting an eye full when you’re going in or out of the shower and making it clearer how/where to recycle. We struggled to find a recycling bin and had to take stuff home but that might have been us overlooking something which was really obvious haha. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Its impossible to have a shower without soaking the floor. Need to add frosting to bathroom window. Using the loo and being able to see people walk up to the waterfall isn't ideal! I think the trumble dryer needs attention. It works but makes a very loud noise. Need to ensure there are spare bin bags, we are asked to put the bin out on a Thursay but there were no spare bin bags which doesn't encourage people to empty the bin. Just a few small points. • "The property has the potential to be a fantastic holiday let that we would have returned to again and again, the location and facilities are great."

However extremely poor cleanliness and general property maintenance let this down completely. Unfortunately this is not the first time we have had issues with Lake Lovers and cleanliness of their properties so I was reluctant to book, however I have wanted to stay at this particularly property as the location has great sentiment and meaning to me. Several of the fixtures and fitting are broken or in poor state of repair, including a lamp which is covered in duct tape and actually fell and narrowly missed my mother’s head. The property is in dire need of a deep clean, and given the list of cleaning we were sent from Lake Lovers to do before we vacated the property, I am led to believe that the absolute bare minimum is done between stays, which is a worry at the best of times, but particularly during Covid times. Dirty finger marks could be seen over numerous appliances and fittings, the carpets were covered in dirt and pet hair, the bin was filthy, the high hair provided was covered in food, a box of fire lighters was left open in the lounge prior to our arrival and the stench of petrol/fumes meant the lounge was completely unusable on our first day, the tumble drier does not have a door catch so does not work and the washing machine drum was black with filth and mold. All in a all, what had the potential to be magnificent holiday, was ruined by lack of care and attention from Lake Lovers and their property services.

The cottage is in a perfect location for those who like to be close to the facilities of Ambleside with shops, restaurants and bars within a stones throw away, yet set slightly back in a quiet street. There are many wonderful walking areas right on your doorstep suitable for all levels of fitness. The lounge area is very homely and we loved the log burner and local artwork. The kitchen is fully equipped with every utensils you will ever need. Both bedrooms are very cosy and the main bedroom has one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in ( this has obviously been recently added). The owners also provide a complimentary parking permit for 1 car which is a wonderful addition and saved us a fortune, not only at Ambleside but many other areas. Overall we would highly recommend this property to anyone, with the exception of maybe those who find stairs difficult as the house is over 3 floors. It really is perfect in every other way and the owners should be very proud…. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The furniture is getting tired but is homely. My main suggestion is to consider replacing the cleaning team. Whilst I understand a power cut had prevented hoovering on the day, this was no excuse for dirty surfaces red wine poured down the sink not rinsed and the shower tray drain completely blocked with hair soap and other matter. At this point in the pandemic the clean was unacceptable Of course as usual it is impossible to contact Lakelovers unless you want to pay money.
