  • "The cottage was lovely, well prepared and perfect for the two of us."

Lovely location. We've never been to the Lake District before but we really enjoyed our stay.

  • "Always enjoy a stay here, quiet spot, only slight problem is the shower, seems to take a long time for any warm water to come through, not the end of the world though, but might be worth looking at."

    Thanks

  • "Cosy cottage with well equipped kitchen, comfortable sofa and comfy bed."

There’s a steep hill to walk back from town but there are short cuts to be found and it doesn’t take too long and the views from the cottage are worth it. We’d stay again.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Honeypot Cottage - thank you - it was very clean, quiet, well equipped and comfortable and only a 7 minute (uphill) walk from the centre of Ambleside (In the winter/dark months it’s worth taking a torch for the last 50 yards or so as there is no pavement) The only slight niggle was having to call at the office to collect/return the keys (rather than having a key safe at the cottage) but otherwise we were very pleased with everything."

  • "Lovely clean and comfortable cottage Always nice to have private parking even if the access is a little tight."

A key safe would be a help instead of having to trail into town to collect an return key.

  • "A charming and comfortable house with lovely views to both front and back."

Very peaceful, with a rural feel, though still close to Ambleside town centre. The garden is pleasant and well maintained, and the position of the house is great for hill walkers. We didn't need to use the car to reach the start point of any of our walks. The bathroom tap was dripping slightly throughout our stay.

  • "Front door step could use a hand rail of some type Parking is uneven but is plenty."

You need to drive up the road a little turn around and then the lock on steering allows a smooth entrance A drying room or possibly porch would be beneficial for walking gear A lockable ring for bike storage would be good Sharp knives for the kitchen wouldn’t go amiss the ones there are blunt Otherwise the cottage is delightful and very comfortable. Take note that the walk up from the town is very steep (called the struggle!) loved our break thanks

  • "Very enjoyable stay."

A lovely comfortable cottage with a well equipped kitchen although out of the four rings on the gas hob two were fine, One needed a match to light it and the other wasn't working. The Cottage is situated in an excellent location for exploring the Lake District with beautiful views to the front and back. It is only a 5 minute walk down into Ambleside where you can find local shops, Galleries, restaurants, Cafe's pubs and good bus connections to Windermere, Grassmere, Coniston, Keswick and Kendal. However the cottage is on a very steep slope (20% gradient) so coming back up could be quite a struggle for some.

  • "Enjoyed our stay, Especially loved the view."

Bit of a hike up a steep hill to the property. The cottage could have been cleaner - thick dust and cobwebs around fireplace, bookcase and on landing.

  • "Honeypot Cottage is the perfect place to stay in Ambleside!"

We have had a long here and loved every moment of it. The cottage is cozy and very comfortable, and is perfectly located at the edge of town -- an easy 5 minute walk downtown, but also located at the top of a hill so that you get amazing views of the mountains all around. The yard is a wonderful space for kids to run around, or for dinner outside. Sykes Cottages was also very helpful any time we needed anything. Highly recommended!!

  • "Comfortable cottage with nice views in a very quiet part of Ambleside, about 5 minutes walk from the center of the town."

For people with mobility issues, note that it is up a short but very steep hill. Comfy beds and a very powerful shower were bliss after a day in the hills.

  • "Lovely cottage , lovely location, ideal base for exploring the lakes and surrounding area."

We had a lovely time. However...No complementry tea or coffee. We use Sykes cottages a lot and we always have tea ,coffe and milk supplied. Plus much more in most cases. So a bit mean on that point, otherwise very good. (we usually bring some with us just in case, but this time didn't as we were sure there would be some.) So had to walk down the hill to the shop and back up again (It's a big hill) so don't be so mean!!!

The cottage was exceptionally clean and the beds were very comfortable. The property provides everything you would need for a self-catering holiday and we didn’t use the car all week with plenty of walks right from the door. We had a great holiday and will definitely book this cottage again in the future.

However, the accommodation was not very clean- large cobwebs and dirty cutlery in the drawer. There were not enough plates etc and very limited glassware which was clearly very old. No large glasses/pint glasses. All utensils were stuck in a wicker basket which made finding things difficult, especially when trying to find a sharp knife in it. One of the duvet covers had felt pen scribbles all over one side.

We could not find the WiFi code as the folder in which it was contained was stored away. It would have helped to have a cleaning cloth for the bathroom. Blinds in the double bedroom would help with sleep in the morning. The garden was at the front of the property rather than at the back as expected from the listing.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
