A lovely comfortable apartment in a great location.

The views from the living room and bedroom were amazing. You can hear the waterfall at night if you open the window, it was so relaxing! The kitchen has everything you need, bathroom is awesome. I don't think we could have asked for a better place to stay, it was the cherry on top for our amazing holiday!

  • "Comfortable and well equipped flat in a great setting."

The parking spaces, however, were designed for smaller cars than we drive these days.

Thank you for your feedback. The parking is built into the property and so moving foundations is not an option. However, there is a large open space opposite the property (pictured in image one) that is designated visitor parking that guests have access to. We are glad that you enjoyed the flat. • "We loved this property although parking was somewhat tight, and (inexplicably) the door-catch sensor on the washing machine was missing when we arrived so we couldn't clear a prior week's backlog of washing until an engineer had been."

Fortunately we were able to reason-out what the missing component was (if not why), and it was 'invisibly' mended in our absence on our first day out. The other niggle would probably be the TV which took some getting used to ~ compared to everything else on-hand which was pretty well plug-&-play (one doesn't go on holiday for hassles). Parking was an issue more widely what with the huge numbers of other likeminded holidaymakers in the area ~ but the scenery and weather more than made up for that! In all other intrinsic respects Squirrel Bank suited us very well.

The apartment was really well kept which made for a wonderful stay. Some kitchen facilities could be developed (some broken glasses in the cupboards, no pint glasses etc), however this in no way detracted from a fantastic holiday. Thank you!

  • "This was a lovely place to stay."

It was comfortable and spacious and in a great location. We had everything we needed. The views out of the windows were great as the property is quite far up the hill from the town (bit of a walk after a day out, but worth it). The art work was a nice touch and there were lots of maps and suggested walks to look through. A couple of things to look out for are the banging fire doors and very low extractor hood but once you get used to them its fine, each door has it’s own stop, which helped.

Thank you for your kind comments, we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and the views. We take all comments on board. Thank you. Property Owner

We would highly recommend and defiantly stay again. Only thing it needs is a motion sensitive light in porch on arrival to help you see the key safe when it’s dark! Other than this we wouldn’t change a thing!

  • "Considering the price, we felt that you could at least have left a welcome pack of bread milk tea as a minimum."

There was not enough loo paper or hand wash to last the weekend let alone the week.We didn’t feel welcome, just a source of revenue. I also objected strongly to being charged travel insurance for driving from north Wales and back to Kent. I had not seen this charge previously.I regard this as extortion and will not be using your services again

Thanks for the feedback - we pride ourselves on ensuring our customers have a comfortable stay which is reflected in historic feedback so are disappointed your stay didn’t meet your requirements . The travel insurance is a clear OPTIONAL EXTRA when booking. We are unable to provide a welcome pack for logistical reasons as meeting individual dietary requirements is challenging eg Vegan Gluten free etc. You should have been provided with adequate toilet paper supplies for a few days we apologise for this. Regarding hand wash this is not provided for hygiene reasons and must have been left by previous occupants Property Owner

Very comfortable bed and great bath / shower. Kitchen is well equipped but is small with very little work surface for food prep. Although the apartment has a parking space it is slightly tight and if the cottage below has 2 cars then the parking area becomes trickier to negotiate. Overall a great holiday and the apartment felt very homely.

  • "It rained a lot, I know that you are not responsible for this, but the property had some old Velux windows in the bedroom."

If these were not there... or were replaced with newer/more insulated units. we may have had better sleep throughout our stay. Parking spaces are small, they are able to accommodate mid size family hatch back cars, but the not SUV's that the neighbours brought with them. On several occasions we had to get them to move their vehicle to allow us to park. Maybe you could encourage guests of all properties on this estate to bring smaller vehicles that would fit into parking spaces ?

Thanks for the feedback. Yes it does rain quite regularly although we’ve never had comments about the noise it makes on the windows ! These velux windows provide light and air into the apartment and are pretty standard in design Sorry to hear about your car parking experience resulting from a neighbours inconsiderate parking . It’s fair to say that car park spaces are very hard to come by in Ambleside and many holiday cottages do not have them so in that sense we are lucky. Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely time."

Apartment immaculate. Top quality furnishings, the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. Downside was noise from downstairs Apartment. We did not like hearing people walk around or get up for toilet through the night. Thank goodness there were no party goers. Also the outdoor waste bin was a mystery. Searched for a week and never found it. Had to use other Apartment bins. Much to the disgust of the people staying there. The location of the apartment is not that far out of town. But be aware the walk back is quite challenging. Quite a steep walk. The views are worth it from the apartment.

  • "Stayed 30th July 21 to 05th Aug 21."

We should of stayed until the 6th but couldn't cope with the family in the appartment below. So lert a day early. Doors banging constantly, kids screaming, running up and down the corridors. The sound proofing between the 2 apartments needs a lot of work and when the doors were being slammed the whole building felt like it was shaking (we must of been unlucky). The apartments on the other hand is a lovely little place. Really nice and the facilities it holds is ideal. Really close to ambleside and lots of walks around the area. We had to ask permission to bring the dog as he is a therapy dog for my husband who suffers from ptsd from the 1st gulf War. Thank you very much to the owners for allowing that. On the whole, lovely place, lovely area but unfortunately won't be going back because of the sound issues between the 2 apartments in the building.

We are very disappointed that your stay at our apartment was spoiled by the noise from the property below. In our 5 years of letting this property we have never received any complaints. These properties were built around 1995 so are relatively modern from a soundproofing perspective but inevitably by their nature sounds will carry to any neighbours. I suspect the recent warm weather has caused open windows and resulted in door banging ( to my knowledge there are by necessity self closing fire doors in the adjoining property ) I cannot of course manage adjoining guest behaviour but have asked our shared letting agents to look into the cause of the door banging. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
