  • "Pine Cottage is a delightful property set in the lovely little town of Appleby."

Exceptionally clean, cosy and comfortable and nicely decorated throughout. The kitchen was very well stocked with crockery, pots and pans, everything you need, a real home from home. The cottage was lovely and warm, particularly as we visited during November when temperatures had started to dip. The lovely little garden would be a great bonus in the warmer months. The private parking space to the rear of the property was a welcome bonus too. Such a lovely property; we certainly hope to return soon.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable cottage with a good choice of kitchen crockery."

Bed very comfortable like everything else. Only 2 mins to walk into town which is very welcoming. We had a great time walking from base and then calling down town for a drink. The history of Appleby is very interesting so enjoyed the fact that the property is over 200 years old.

  • "Arrived and parked up, had to ring the owner to find the key safe, but no issue, just didn’t like bothering the lady on Friday tees time."

House was perfect, full of all the amenities and fully equipped. Well laid out, and spacious. I didn’t quite work out how to open the windows, which was my stupid fault. We were only there for 2 nights so it wasn’t a massive issue. Instructions and everything labelled meant that everything in the house was self explanatory- just hope we didn’t get anything wrong. The garden looked lovely, and in summer months I bet it’s a delight to sit outside Thank you for a lovely weekend, I will be re-booking x

  • "A lovely cottage, quick and easy contact with the owner when needed."

Well presented , excellent local shops and pubs which we enjoyed ,with friendly people everywhere we went. A hand towel in the kitchen and a floor mat in the shower room would be helpful. The welcome pack was useful ,always good to be able to have a cup of tea when you arrive. We found the bed comfortable and the cottage quiet despite being close to the road. The garden looked lovely but sadly the weather not right this time to make use of it. Hopefully we will come back.

Thank you for your review. I apologies that there were no floor mats available. I will look into this and see what's happened to them. We do provide kitchen roll and tea towels for the kitchen, hand towels are not provided. However, on the beds there are bath towel and hand towel for each person. Property Owner

  • "The owners have thought of everything for your stay ."

We had roadworks outside and they even provided parking permits . The property is better than 5 star . The entrance to the rear is narrow but I made it with my van . The cottage was a great base for us in which to explore the area . Ullswater and Keswick was amazing and I can highly recommend the alpaca walk near Keswick. The owners covered every eventuality. We will return to this amazing property .

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm so glad Pine cottage met all your needs and you and your daughter enjoyed exploring the surrounding areas. Property Owner

  • "This cottage is a little gem - warm & inviting, immaculately clean, beautifully furnished."

With off-road parking, & a pretty little garden, it wants for nothing. A short stroll leads into the town centre which has the River Eden running through together with several pubs/restaurants & shops. A great base for touring around the area with its spectacular scenery. Highly recommended!

Thank you for your generous review we are happy you have enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "This property was very clean and comfortable."

It should be noted that the second bedroom has extremely steep stairs and not suitable for young children or elderly. Everything in the cottage that you would need for a comfortable stay and the owner was extremely helpful. The road outside can be quite noisy in the early hours but that didn't detract from the property. One slight issue, there was no where to hang damp towels so possibly a clothes airer on the landing would be helpful? Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback on Pine Cottage. You make a couple of observations, firstly a lack of facilities to dry damp towels. We do provide hooks on the shower room door and a heated towel rail in the downstairs bathroom/toilet which we are very happy for guests to use. Appleby being a busy countryside town can get traffic in the early hours. Secondary glazing is provided on all windows and this helps reduce noise levels if kept closed at night. The stairs are steep on the top floor with hand rail, but are a feature of the property. We have ensured that this is referred to in our description of Pine Cottage. Once again I would like to thank you for your feedback. We look forward to you staying with us again. Property Owner

The cottage is perfect for families, it was very clean, comfortable and cosy. The facilities were excellent and we loved the log burner. The garden was beautiful to sit in, and the neighbors were very friendly to chat to. There was lots of helpful information leaflets and maps of local activities and walking routes around Cumbria and the Lake District, which prompted lots of our days out. The location was great and convenient for parking, we enjoyed our stay!

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
