  • "A lovely little house, but on a busy road during the week."

I parked further down the road but once the attached 2 properties are lived in it will be difficult to park safely. Arrived in the cold evening and rain, no heating on so very cold and damp until heated up and no wood, matches or kindling to light the fire. Had to go down to millom and luckily a garage was still open, extra cost of £12. At least leave a complimentary amount for guests. No fireside set either to use with fire so kindling sticks did their best! The inner door needs a latch as I was terrified my daughter or dog would come out after me when packing car onto the road. My daughter also got locked in bathroom as latch is too high to lift over catch. Need more bowls and plates as dishwasher is full there's nothing left. Those deep bowls are hopeless with pasta etc. No cleaning cloths to wipe only sponges and no dustpan etc. Need seating outside, lovely views but have to stand to enjoy them. Overpriced at the moment as too many small things not organised. People come on holiday, not to go shopping for you.

Thank you for the feedback. We would always encourage our guests to contact Sykes should they experience any problems during their stay to try and resolve issues straight away. We have spoken with our housekeeping team who have confirmed that the bathroom catch is in good working order and one electric heater downstairs and one upstairs are left on for guests to keep off the chill. The garden furniture was in situ and there were 8 bowls , 7 main plates and 8 side plates available. As was cleaning cloths and other cleaning materials under the sink. Sorry that you didn’t like the style of the dishes. We do not advertise as leaving fire wood packs but hope you did received the complimentary tea, coffee, milk , wine and biscuits. Property Owner

  • "WiFi would be a great addition Some kind of instructions as to where to put rubbish and what to do with bed linen and towels."

Front door could do with looking at as you have to really push hard to open and close it. On the whole was a lovely place

  • "What a lovely cottage!"

From the moment we arrived to the day we left we enjoyed staying there so much. Everything we needed was there waiting for us which allowed us to get out and visit the area especially the mountains and lakes. The one downside for us was the shower screen seal which does need replacing. Otherwise everything else was perfect -thanks!

  • "We really enjoyed staying in this lovely cottage, the interior was done to a good standard."

The living room area was cosy, we enjoyed playing games and watching TV at night. We had brought the fire stick in the hope of watching films in the evenings, but there was no WiFi. This wasn't a big deal as we had brought our own games to play. The kitchen is lovely, very clean and lots of room to store food. Washing up liquid, anti bac spray, tea-towels and sponges were provided. There is a beautiful view from the raised decking in the back garden however, we didn't get to spend much time out there with the rainy nights and all the walking we did in the day. Bathroom was clean, some toilet rolls were provided. Shower door was a bit broken at the bottom, but other reviews had said about the seal leaking, it didn't leak for us, but maybe the loose seal was the cause? The beds were really comfy, the first night we had the window open and the sound of the traffic woke me, but with windows shut it wasn't loud enough to wake. There are big wardrobes for storing clothes in both bedrooms. We would love to come back and would recommend this cottage. There's lots to see locally aswell as in the wider area by car. Thank you for the lovely dog friendly stay.

  • "Overall a nice cottage in a great location."

The snags for us and where improvements could be made are as follows. - the main bedroom window didn’t open and was not fixed during our stay. It was a fairly warm week and this was a bit frustrating. - no WiFi. I know this was as advertised, but there is also not good phone signal either. I know some may not agree, but WiFi is almost a necessity these days (for communication and entertainment) - shower door didn’t close properly. Even when closed, those doors are rubbish, but having to ensure the bathroom didn’t flood for 4 people was a pain - a welcome package is also a good touch to provide. I know the superminis just down the road for this property, but after a 6-8hr drive, a few basics would have been nice. Not having basics like salt and pepper is a little bit below average tbh. We’ve stayed at a number of AirBNB/Sykes cottages and these extra touches go a long way.

  • "The cottage is comfortable and cozy, we didnt expect the hike up to the cottage from the back gate but managed ok, we did have the choice of using the front entrance but with it being right on the road didnt want to use it with having our cats with us, the back gate could do with a little maintenance as we had to lift the gate to open it."

We would return to this property again but would reccomend maybe a little info on places to visit and a welcome pack is always a nice thing to turn up to on arrival x

  • "The state of the garden was disappointing, grass knee deep, brambles across path, no chairs to sit out."

The front door key was very difficult to use so we used the back door.

We are sorry to read about the garden. We have spoken with the gardening team who are now working to a more regular schedule. The garden chairs are located in the garden store. The housekeeping team have reported the front door is working properly. We are grateful for your feedback. The Sykes team and the housekeeping team are happy to try to rectify any issues you may encounter during your stay. Property Owner

About the location

MILLOM, CUMBRIA

Broughton-in-Furness 7.4 miles; Ambleside 23.8 miles

This small coastal town on the southern edges of the Lake District National Park frames the northern shores of the estuary leading to the River Duddon. Millom Museum offers an insight to its past, with a reconstruction of a drift mine lending a nod to its iron and steel works. There is also a statue in the town centre, commemorating the iron industry, depicting 'The Scutcher' who stopped the iron ore tubs with and iron bar and his own strength. This town was also home to writer Norman Nicholson, who has a stained glass window in St. George's Church dedicated to his memory, while the strange 'fish' window in the Holy Trinity Church is also worth a visit. Discover the remains of Millom Castle and travel to nearby Haverigg, with its Blue Flag beach, a restored lighthouse and children's adventure play areas, for the ideal family day out. Also find the 7 tonne sculpture ‘Escape to Light’ positioned near to the Haverigg Inshore Rescue station, constructed by Josefina de Vasconcellos to pay tribute to the Inshore Rescue Teams in the UK. Other attractions in the region include the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Black Combe for walks with stunning views and Sandscale Haws, a National Nature Reserve with an outstanding dune habitat supporting a plethora of wildlife. Further afield are the delightful towns and villages of the Lakes District such as Grizedale, Ambleside and Windermere, not forgetting the abundant walking and cycling opportunities in the area. Enjoy an adventurous break in Cumbria.
