  • "We had a wonderful stay with our two children during October half term."

The cottage was very cosy and its location was perfect, just a short walk into town through beautiful scenery. There is a brilliant park nearby so the location is excellent for those with children. All the main attractions are a short drive away- Hill Top, Wray Castle, Brockhole, Tarn Hows, Beatrix Potter world and Grizedale forest. There is also a pretty walk/cycle from the cottage to Grasmere, which we discovered on the last day. The cinema in town was also perfect for a rainy morning. I’d definitely recommend hiring a motor boat on the lake, which even the children steered! Lunch at the Towerbank Arms in Sawrey is also a must and the Tap House in Ambleside did the most amazing pizza and burgers! The cottage was well equipped and the beds very comfortable. The open fire was just lovely. We did have an issue with the shower that leaked through the ceiling into the downstairs electrics. Maintenance were quick to come and look at it but couldn’t solve the issue immediately. A small thing, but the can opener did not work so we had to borrow one from a neighbour apart from that, we would definitely come and stay again in this wonderful, cosy cottage!

  • "Lovely apartment."

Had everything we needed and we loved it. Nice easy walks into Ambelside (10-12 min) as well as just off a main road for any local drives we chose. We walked to the waterfront (20-25 mins) and enjoyed a Ferry to and from Burness on Windermere. The WIFI was fast enough.

  • "We have stayed here several times as the peaceful location and easy parking within easy reach of Ambleside makes this a convenient base."

We know the property quite well by now so we could see that all the carpets had been replaced and the decor refreshed in places. It was disappointing though to find that there were maintenance issues in almost every room i.e. the kitchen counter lights are not working and there are long cracks in the bath sealant. There is a missing shower door handle. The dining table mats are stained, unappealing and need replacing. The plastic kitchen bin isn't working and has to be prised open. Most of the curtains are sagging off the rails and need to be properly re-hung again. These noticeable maintenance issues could easily be remedied. It's surprising that so much was probably spent on the refurbishment and yet these simple maintenance items were left neglected. It made the property feel a bit shabby overall.

Thank you for your comments. We take all comments on board. Our Maintenance team did attend to resolve some of the issues during your stay. Thank you. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Fantastic location five mins from Ambleside and great walks from the door, but Michael left a review in September in which he mentioned, no where to hang coats, gardens and seating, cabinet lights not working, cooker lamp not working, curtain on front door hanging off, curtain pull cord missing, sticky tables, shower door handle missing, bathroom rad not working, broken waste bin, windows painted by a five year old, uncomfortable mattresses, personal letters etc etc none of this has been addressed."

He did mention the new carpets which is a good point but forgot to mention that you cant shut the doors, i thought i was going to pull the door handles off! The rad in the kitchen now has a leak and where did they find those pictures through out the property? you couldn't give them away, not one highlighting or promoting the splendour of the lake district. I to was expecting more than a lick of paint and new carpets from a refurbishment, it has great potential but needs a lot of tlc. PS wouldn't mind a pound for every time we hit that loose floor board at the bottom of the stairs!! PPS if you carefully take down the three little plates hanging by the front door you can hang your coats on the nails! and when my daughter looked for her phone down the side of the settee we found a fireman sam book, a oreo biscuit, a shredded wheat, and some stray clothing (i don't think they where Michaels!)

Thank you for your feedback. We acknowledge the comments that you have made and the Brand will work closely with the Owners to improve offerings at the property. Lakelovers facilitate the cleaning of the property on behalf of the owner and we will be addressing the comments directly. Property Owner

  • "Property not as described on net."

For example, cloakroom, where is it, surely not the cupboard with the gas boiler in that could not be accessed for junk, ie ladders, bookcase and books, tins of paint (not a good idea being flammable items next to a gas boiler) etc. , leaving nowhere to hang wet coats! The stunning gardens with seating, but no indication where you could walk or where to sit outside. The lounge with views to gaze out , at what, a hillside ? Top of range kitchen, it was old and outdated, lights under cabinets not working, cooker light not working, reported and not sorted. Overall the property requires attention, daylight/drought around front door, and curtain to close behind door hanging off with broken hooks; lounge windows painted shut, lounge curtain pull cord missing, dining and coffee table “sticky” to touch, personal items from from “resident” left in property - letters, box under bed, unit on top of wardrobe, nicknacks not expected in a holiday let; new mattress required in 2nd bedroom, blinds that fit and prevent a “see through vision” required in both bathrooms, frosted glass in bathrooms required, main bedroom shower cubicle handle missing, radiator above bath not working, some TLC throughout required. Would recommend a sensor light outside front door, as difficulty unlocking in dark, replacement rubbish bin in kitchen as lid not working. I appreciate that the flat had been painted and new carpet laid, but nothing else obvious for a “refurbishment June 22”. Was expecting more, better value, for the amount we paid.

  • "A great base for a short break in Ambleside for two adults and a child."

Comfortable, well equipped apartment which was ideally located for easy access to centre of Ambleside (10 minute level walk - a torch would be an essential for darker nights though) as well as being a great starting point for a number of walks. One of the highlights was watching a deer in the garden on our first evening. Would book again.

  • "Recently repainted and carpeted so lovely fresh feel."

Pretty well equipped and everything worked, although took a few mins to find cooker clock setting buttons for fan oven to come on. Very quiet location yet 10 mins walk through Rothay Park to centre of Ambleside. Flat is compact with quite steep stairs to only door and short steep narrow rotating stairs to bedrooms/bathrooms. Sash windows to Kitchen, Living Room/Diner and 2nd Bedroom painted shut. This was raised with Lakelovers early to alleviate condensation (plus request for kitchen scissors and replacement bed 2 mattress cover early in stay and no action..),… Flat to Eastern aspect of converted larger property, in extensive shared well maintained open grounds, but no outside seating and limited window views ( to rear and up a slope to woods). Good base if out a lot.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Millerbeck. We are really pleased that you enjoyed the refurb and the location! We have now made sure the window will open and appreciate you making us aware. With regards to the missing crockery, our housekeeping team will be replenishing the kitchen utensils for the next guests. Once again, many thanks and we hope to welcome you back again soon! • "A very comfortable property with a homely feel, mostly well equipped and will definitely use again."

A few issues that need addressing: Smart TV should either be removed from description or instructions on how to set up and use are needed. We couldn't get any of the apps to work - just said loading please wait and then nothing so were restricted to BBC, ITV, 4 and 5 channels. There wasn't even the full range of Freeview channels. Smoke alarms way too sensitive meaning every time we cooked they would go off. On one occasion boiling the kettle triggered it. Better knives and forks needed. We stayed for 2 weeks but no clean linen or towels, dish washer tabs, toilet rolls etc. were supplied for the second week. No hand soap/wash or washing up liquid provided. Others have mentioned cosmetic problems in master bathroom that haven't been addressed.

We would like to thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the television did not seem to be working during your stay. This has now been checked and is in working order. We are sorry that you were expecting a mid stay clean. Post covid, we no longer do a clean mid stay but guests can request new linen and towels. We will make sure this is made clearer in our conditions. We thank you for your helpful and constructive feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future! Property Owner

  • "Some small repairs could be done ie."

Tiles on the side of the bath need reapplying, both radiators in bathrooms need cosmetic attention. Although decor was dated it was still warm and comfortable, but it would benefit for a king size bed in the main bedroom. Otherwise happy with our fourth holiday at this property.

We would like to thank you for your helpful feedback. We are pleased to advise that the property has undergone a complete refurb in June 2022. We look forward to welcoming you back to see the improvements! Property Owner

  • "Have stayed at plenty of holiday cottages in the past and will continue to do so in the future."

This was the 3rd property this year .. location was fantastic love the lakes (rear of property gets no sun whatsoever).. definately wouldn't like to stay there over the summer months due to lack of outside seating .. yes there are grounds but you'd get frowned upon by the apartments overlooking the grounds .. we couldn't do croissants in the morning or just to sit back after a long walk and take a simple tea outside .. hole in fire meant husband had to rebuild the hearth every time he cleaned and lit it .. generally not very feng shui full of 1990's tat .. jacuzzi only had 2 jets working .. main bedroom off bathroom smelt like something had died in there ..

We would like to thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased you love the location and are repeat guests at Millerbeck. We are pleased to advise the property has recently undergone a full refurb in June 2022! The owner has purchased brand new outdoor furniture for guests to use at their leisure also. • "Fantastic setting, easy walking distance to Ambleside and with walks from the door in all directions we did not use the car all week!"

The accommodation had all that we needed, you just had to watch the fridge door as it didn’t always shut properly and the back left ring did not work on the job, neither of which were major issues for us. The one thing I will say is that there appears to be at least two wasp nests just outside both bedroom windows which led to unwanted visitors! I would strongly suggest that they are dealt with.

We would like to thank you for your wonderful feeback. We are so pleased you took advantage of the fab location too. We can confirm that these issues have been rectified and we hope to welcome you again in the future to the newly refurbished Millerbeck! Property Owner

  • "Although the location of the accommodation was ideal, the apartment smelt of damp when we arrived and this was there throughout our week."

There were a number of minor issues such as the bathroom sinks not draining very quickly, cracks in the grouting around the bath and the general décor needed some TLC. This could be an excellent apartment as the location was just right - a short walk into Ambleside, quiet and good parking space. It would also have been nice to have had some outside space.

  • "We stayed at this property in July 2021."

The property is in need of investment. A repair to the lounge ceiling is a botched job, the radiator in the bathroom is rusty, the three piece suite is old and shabby. When we arrived the loo seat was damaged. This was promptly repaired. Worst of all the fire extinguisher in the kitchen year of manufacture was 1997! None of these were shown in the photos on the Lakelovers' website. After much wrangling I eventually got a £300 refund having paid nearly £1100 for the week.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We are pleased to advise that the property has undergone a full refurbishment in June 2022. The property also undergoes fire safety checks which it has successfully passed recently. We do hope that these issues, that have now been resolved, do not deter you from visiting Millerbeck again. • "Location and facilities were great - but we've never stayed in such a tired and unloved property."

Generally the apartment had everything we needed, but it was a depressing place to be with no outdoor space which is a huge shame. There was a lot of wear and tear on carpets and walls. Aside of that, key examples of failure: broken handle on shower door in main bathroom, rusty wall-mounted radiator in main bathroom, dusty/dirty fake flowers in main bathroom, broken drawer front in second bedroom, broken coat hanger on door in second bedroom, cupboard door in front of washing machine did not close, bin lid did not open easily, broken handle on crockery cupboard in kitchen, dirty coffee grounds in machine on arrival, no mugs that would fit under coffee machine, child's high chair provided with asking or being needed, dining table was sticky to touch, no washing up liquid was provided with starter pack.

  • "Had an issue with a bad odour in the property in arrival."

Emailed Lakelovers, and someone arrived within two hours to deal with the problem. Excellent service. This was our second stay with Lakelovers at Millerbeck. We adore the place, and had a fabulous stay once again. We had hoped to book again for May 2022, but sadly the prices have been put up by around 60%, which is just too much of a leap in price to justify. If prices hadn't increased so steeply, I would have already booked again for next year.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
