  • "We had a lovely week at the cottage."

It was clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. Plenty of room for two families with two dogs. A large safe garden and a variety of sitting areas inside and out. Beautiful countryside, wildlife and walks. Excellent eateries within a short distance. Fine meal at The Brown Horse Winster, and an excellent breakfast at Low Sizergh Barn cafe on the way home. Interesting visit to Stott’s Bobbin Mill. Very impressed that a failing smoke alarm was attended to within an hour of our report so peace reigned again! A really enjoyable time, thank you.

  • "Great house, the 2nd time we’ve stayed there - only this time with our children (4 and 7 yrs) so a slightly different set of needs."

The garden/outdoor space was superb being large and totally enclosed. The house had everything we needed, apart from (due to the great weather last week) a barbecue! Two pieces of feedback would be that (even in the hot weather we had) the lounge was quite cold in the evenings so we needed to light a fire. Not a lot that can be done about that though, I guess that’s why there’s a fire place(!). But in light of not wanting to put the whole house heating on perhaps an electric heater of some description could be provided to save the mess and pollution of a fire? Secondly we all found the beds too firm. I realise the irony that recent feedback for the property stated they were too soft and that new mattresses had been purchased…….can’t please everyone I guess! Maybe a topper on each bed would help satisfy the masses? That’s the only two slight issues I can think of, other than that no problems at all - we would all stay there again in a flash. The location is also great, we ate at all the pubs within a 5 miles radius over the week and did several walks from the property. We found the maps provided for this very useful, particularly as we managed to leave ours at home!

Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay. We take all comments on board. We do find that beds are down to personal preference. We hope to welcome you again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Firstly we really enjoyed our stay, the location is superb for walking and wildlife!"

The cottage was very well laid out with plenty of room for 6 people. The only reason it didnt get 5 stars was the mattress wasnt great and one time I used the shower it went cold for some reason. Also I think the front outside lightbulbs need changed as they didnt seem to work at all on our stay.

  • "Fantastic property."

Beautiful view and great garden which dogs loved. The cottage was clean and well equipped. The option of a welcome pack such as milk , tea, coffee ,bread , jam bottle of wine for arrival would be great. Happy to pay for it as would mean that no need to rush straight to shop. Also some board games ,cards etc

  • "Lovely cottage, a real home from home."

The large secure garden is perfect for dogs to have a great run around and the view is amazing. The only minor negative would be that the mattresses in both of the double bedrooms could do with updating.

  • "Overall we really enjoyed our stay."

The cottage is in a lovely location, and was very clean and well equipped and maintained. There were a couple of minor things that we found irritating however. On arrival we found there were no spare toilet rolls or kitchen bin liners so we needed to make a trip to buy these the next day

The cottage is very well equipped, spacious, comfortable and clean. We love the location and the views and it’s a great place to stay whatever the weather. Our dog loves the garden and the nearby walks. It was lovely to be able to walk through the fields to one of the local pubs.

  • "This was a lovely property, well equipped and very comfortable."

There was 4 adults and two dogs, but we had lots of space to do our own thing. It was great that is had two sitting areas with a TV, which meant we could watch different things at night. The garden was really beautiful with views to die for. We did have at least 3 sunny days, which is great for an Oct stay. It meant we were able to sit outside and read, talk drink and just enjoy the quiet setting. We did go for a meal at the Mason Arms and it was very good quality and would have went back again if we could have got booked, but it was very popular. Never mind we made the best of the cooking facilities, after a visit to the Plumgarths Farm Shop, where we bought lovely meat, veg and of course the famous sticky toffee pudding. We would definitely go again. Then the lovely owner posted our dogs leads back to us, after we left it behind, which was extremely thoughtful Thank you for a lovely stay

Lyth Valley luxury at Great Hartbarrow Farm!

This superb 17th Century Westmorland longhouse will be a well-loved companion for your special holiday in the Lakes.

Just a few miles from the celebrated Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank along with a scattering of other homely country inns, and surrounded by green fields and woodlands, your party can slip into the calming country escape mood while still being close enough to Bowness and wider Lakes to explore with ease! Renovated to an exacting standard, Great Hartbarrow Farm Cottage has all you could want for a rejuvenating holiday in the Lakes.

Old world charm flows through this characterful property, marked by wooden beams and a tasteful use of local slate, yet the modernisation of the property means you have every contemporary comfort at your disposal.

Luxurious leather sofas let you unwind in style, with a warming wood-burner for chillier times, and the intriguing 'hayloft' bedroom is a really superb place to recharge!

The remote and picturesque countryside setting makes sure you get some lovely pastoral views here, too! In spring and summer the fields and hedgerows of the Lyth Valley are abuzz with the goings-on of wildlife and full of flowers and fruit, damson and blackberries being particularly abundant.

But the area is appealing in any season, and a crisp winter's walk to the glorious summit of Gummer's How or a misty autumn morning drive through the miasma of country lanes attests to that!

It often feels like a world that time forgot here, and you are sufficiently off the beaten tracks of Lakeland's central fells to really appreciate the peace of rural life. Of course, the pretty country garden with well-appointed patio offers an excellent space to sit outside and really soak it all in, and when the sun is out we're sure you'll spend plenty of time here relaxing beneath the sun umbrella and sipping your favourite summertime beverage!

When in a more active mood, you could hardly be better placed to enjoy the multitude of fascinating rural rambles this green and gorgeous area has to offer, and a short journey lets you access the most famous fells of Lakeland and the myriad attractions of the region.

You'll surely want to visit bustling Bowness and take a cruise on a steamer on Lake Windermere, while guided tours of the Lakes are available by Mountain Goat minibus, too. Perfect for a peaceful walking holiday with homely country inns aplenty to punctuate your scenic perambulations, a stay with us at Great Hartbarrow Farm Cottage will surely leave you satisfied yet coming back for more!
