  • "We loved our time at Judges Lodging!"

The house is cosy and superbly located, and the master bedroom is particularly excellent. In terms of negatives, it would be good if soap was provided, especially as there are three bathrooms. Also, access to and from the car park to the rear of the property is very tight.

  • "1. No heating when we arrived on a very cold day."

No instructions re starting heating. Next day googled it and followed on-line manufacturers instructions. 2. Tried to cook a quick fry-up on arrival and frying pan covered in thick black grease which was very difficult to shift. 3. En-suite bath hadn’t been cleaned, thick soap scum all round. 4. Palmolive soap bottles left on bowls were practically empty. 5. “Welcome” pack of a scourer, dish cloth snd five dishwasher tablets is hardly welcoming. Given that renting for the week is hundreds of £s, would it break the bank to provide cleaning items. We stayed in Judges Lodgings a few years ago and had none of the above problems.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We are sorry that the property was not as expected on arrival. Unfortunately, as we were not made aware of these issues we were not able to resolve them for you. As this is a self catering property cleaning items are not provided as standard. • "Boiler was broken on arrival."

Speedy response by Sykes but the entire property was 7 degrees and took a good 4 days to almost get up to temperature and that was only helped by the electric fire in the lounge. No heating in the kitchen and stone tiles don't mix....that's unless you follow the suggestion of carrying an oil heater down two flights of stairs! The doors did close properly so the draft throughout the house blew the doors open leading to a very disturbed and cold night. TV in lounge regularly goes out of signal. Unable to watch it all on two of the days. Not great on days when had the bad weather. I can't fault Sykes but Judges Lodge is not up to standard with some basic fixes needed.

  • "The property is in a great location, really handy for the shops and pubs in the village."

The facilities are good although a light bulb was out in the kitchen on our arrival which was really annoying and the steep stairs were sometimes a bit of a struggle. Everything is of good quality and clean, we would come back again as had a great week.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that the lightbulb was out during your stay but unfortunately we were not made aware so unable to change this for you. We are glad that you enjoyed all that the property and area has to offer. Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Location, brill, you couldn't get any closer to local amenities, same for sightseeing, conniston, Keswick, grassmere, bowness, ambleside, and Windermere, cottage as described, if you have mobility issues it might not be for you as the stairs are steep to the lounge n bedrooms followed by more stairs to master bedroom, more than enough wash rooms, kitchen well equipped, reserved parking at rear of cottage, if you have pets a two minute walk for exercising over the road to bridal way."

Key safe to enter the cottage..recycling bins at side n rear of property and main village car park, if hawkshead ferry not running only four miles from hawkshead to ambleside. 20 mins to conniston.

  • "Beautiful cottage, comfortable, clean and in a great location for all the amenities of Hawkshead."

Only one niggle really- although there was a small box with a couple of dishwasher tablets in and 2 bin bags, there was no other essentials supplied, that I have known to be provided in s/c accommodation before. Such as salt, pepper, washing up liquid, kitchen spray to be able to wipe worktops over properly. We just purchased these from the nearby shop. Otherwise lovely stay

Thank you for your kind comments. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. The property is a self catering cottage, so a starter pack is rarely supplied. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

Everything was brilliant apart from 3 little things It says fridge freezer but it’s an ‘ice box’ in the fridge with no space so luckily the letting company brought in a chest freezer for us to use for the week There is no oil radiator in the top bedroom just a warm air fan - which we used Having the boiler in the small bedroom was very inconvenient and constantly woke the other couple up as it had a strange start up system A spare parking permit for the carpark would be appreciated as two couples travel in two cars

  • "The property is in a good location and the village of Hawkshead is lovely."

The property is very spacious, all the rooms are a good size, but we did struggle more than we anticipated with the property being spread over three floors. We didn't have any problem accessing the parking at the rear of the building, but equally we didn't use the car during our stay so we only drive in on arrival and then out again when we left. We did find the bed to be very uncomfortable, the mattress was very firm and you could feel the springs, and the pillows were very thin. My other, probably silly, annoyance for the week was the fact that there was a Nespresso Vertuo machine but with no pods. If it had been mentioned in the list of items provided I would have bought some of our own pods. It is on one of the photos of the kitchen, but you'd have to be fairly eagle-eyed to spot it. It could do with either being mentioned in the list of things provided, or have a selection of pods available.

We couldn’t get to the parking space round the back for half the days we were there due to others blocking the driveway as they couldn’t fit their car in their space. A huge shame as the house is absolutely perfect.

A shame that we were not able to eat at The Queen's Head pub in the village, due to them not being able to hire restaurant staff, guess that's the consequence of Brexit.

  • "Judges Lodging was a lovely place to stay, it was very well equipped, warm and comfortable."

The area was lovely and we couldn’t be any better located for all the amenities within the village. Lovely walks from the property. The internet was the only problem, it wasn’t very good and constantly kept cutting out. Which was very frustrating. Other than that the property was excellent and we had a lovely weeks holiday, made by the fabulous weather.

  • "The cottage is well equipped and the lounge and kitchen are particularly good."

It is very well located and the parking spot behind is very useful. The Christmas decorations were appreciated. Our only issue, considering that we rented the cottage in December, was with the heating. The lounge was lovely and cosy, but with the thermostat being in that room, the rest of the house struggled to get warm. It was particularly difficult to get the top, master bedroom warm as there was a lot of heat loss into the roof space. A note about the heater under the oven would have been useful as initially we didn't think that it was working as it didn't come on immediately.

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
