  • "Beautifully clean & well equipped apartment with stunning views & a great location."

We really enjoyed our stay. My only comments are that a surface cleaner spray for the kitchen & hob would be useful. Also we struggled to get enough hot water for three showers, perhaps an electric shower would be easier?

I’m delighted you enjoyed your holiday and the apartment and I’ll do as you suggested on the surface cleaner next time I’m there. Many thanks. Property Owner

Floorboards were also quite creaky which was disturbing in the night for others when going to the loo, but otherwise a great apartment in a fab location and amazing views.

Comfortable beds etc. If we could make some constructive comments, the general maintenance to outside patio area was poor. Railings need painting, and a power wash of the outside area was overdue. The carpet in the living area and chairs need some attention. But overall we had a pleasant experience.

However, this could have been an error in searching & overlooked by us. Lovely apartment, suited us well & the view from the front room window…well indescribable! Very comfortable, had everything that we needed…thought the sofa was ok, could do with a broom/dustpan & brush but other than that - brilliant!

Also I felt that the towels should have been refreshed at least twice during the week but they weren't at all. I felt by the wording on the emails I received that I should clean the apartment before we left or I would have £200 taken from my account. I paid over £800 for a weeks stay so I don't feel I have to clean up for the next guests , I was on holiday!!

Very well equipped, and very comfortable beds. We often used the YHS restaurant next door, which was very nice, and also the local chip shop which was delicious. Negative - We did request a high chair for the baby, which was acknowledged, but unfortunately wasn’t in place, and made some mealtimes very difficult. I also struggled with the Sykes website which isn’t the best. The ‘contact us’ sends you in circles.

  • "The property was tired, particularly the outside."

Our allocated parking space had rubbish littered there, a large old TV, a gallon oil can, a box with at least 30 glass bottles, lids and other general paper and waste. It was still there when we left and hadn’t been cleaned up. The windows were full of fly nests making it impossible to open them. The poorly maintained exterior let’s the property down. I have photographs to support my dissatisfaction.

  • "We strongly recommend that the owner stays a few days in the apartment - as if a guest."

They would pick up things like: - the wifi code in the book is wrong, and so are the two that Sykes people have - there is no shaver socket in the bathroom or light over the mirror (the mirror has a power supply, but used only for a heater) - the shower does not drain properly, so the tray fills up - there is a drain smell in the bathroom, that can be fixed for a day, but then returns - the bedroom curtains need to be thicker to keep out the street light outside - the lounge blind doesn't work - the bedroom door doesn't latch - the tv has been changed but the manual has not - the microwave instructions given could easily be much better for basic operation - the kitchen could do with a towel rail - a long handle brush would be useful for daily sweeping without having to get the vacuum out - simple tiebacks on the lounge curtains would significantly improve lovely the view - the lounge chairs are quite uncomfortable. Hope this helps - the views from the bay are excellent and really make this apartment! We preferred dealing with HoL before they were Sykes.

  • "I booked this property due to not feeling 100% confident in travelling abroad yet due to Covid etc."

My husband and myself had never travelled to The Lakes so thought this made perfect sense. I have a Cocker Spaniel so a dog friendly property was a must. I read a few of the reviews of the property prior to travelling and was a little concerns regarding the issues previous visitors had had. However, I decided to go into it with an open mind. The directions to the property were easy to follow, and although we missed the turn into the harbour parking area first time, we quickly realised our error and found our way. The designated parking space looked a bit hairy to access, but luckily The Husband is better at manoeuvres than me! Previous visitors commented on the social area with sofa. The sofa now in place is different to that that’s in the promo photos, and there is also an armchair. Plus the two armchairs which have pride of place in the bay window for people watching. I think this arrangement was perfect for what we wanted, albeit there was only two of us; the property slept four (a double bed is now in the second bedroom) so it would definitely be a bit cramped if four were using it. Everything was good for our use, my only criticism would be the curtains in the main bedroom, which I think has been mentioned before. Darker curtains or an additional blackout blind would be nice, the white ones currently in place look good, but they’re sadly not very effective. That’s it though, my only criticism / observation of the whole place. The property is close enough to Ambleside to be able to walk into town, in fact, we arrived on the Saturday afternoon and didn’t use the car again until Thursday! Lots of friendly pubs and restaurants close by too. All in all, we had a good stay.

Ambleside town centre is easily accessible. Decent flat car parking space was a bonus. Property is close to Ambleside pier and to A591 which meant easy get away to all other local destinations. Well furnished and tastefully decorated apartment.

  • "There are three things that would massively improve this accommodation - 1) Blackout curtains in the bedroom - for such a huge window, white curtains provide no darkness at all and the whole room is lit up at 4."

30am which seriously affected my sleep. 2) Replace sofa and armchair - both are uncomfortable and don’t provide the relaxing seating they should to appreciate the amazing views, 3) Replace rickety dining table - squeaks and moves with every knife and fork movement - it really isn’t pleasant to eat at! Be wary of the limited hot water without pressing the boost function. We got caught out after taking morning showers and finding there wasn’t enough hot water for an evening shower after a long day walking - not enough time to boost before our dinner reservation so forced to have cold showers! Those things aside, this is a great holiday let and we would return, this is intended as constructive feedback to the owner as addressing the above really would make this an outstanding place to stay.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
