Grasmere is a beautiful village, with tea rooms, interesting shops and several art galleries displaying the work of local artists - don't miss the Heaton Cooper Studio; additionally, there’s a small supermarket, local shops and bakeries, so you’re well-catered to here.
The evidence of Grasmere's artistic history is all around, the poet William Wordsworth once lived in Grasmere, mused about the surrounding landscapes and completed his most famous work while living in the village; his former home can be visited nearby at Dove Cottage - the Wordsworth Museum.
His gravestone is found in the church in the centre of the village, next door to the famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop – just follow your nose!
For evening dining or special occasions, there are plenty of choices nearby in Grasmere village centre, try the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room, or the Michelin-starred Forest Side.
Riverside and lakeside walks here are available in abundance, and the views from Loughrigg Terrace across Grasmere itself are sublime; further walks and watersports can be found in Rydal, Ambleside and Windermere, too.
Choose Kelbarrow for a brilliant getaway with those who mean most.
