  • "We were staying for a long weekend."

The property was very clean. However we were only 3 guests. The large front bedroom had 2 single beds pushed together. And only a double duvet cover. Which left my parents fighting for the covers. We had to replace the batteries in the heating controls. As they ran out. This would be my only grumble. Otherwise a beautiful cottage and well equiped. Great having 2 good pubs close by. I will deffinatly book again. Thank you.

We were in Barrow visiting family and it was perfectly situated for our needs.

  • "The property has almost everything required for a stay and was well presented on our arrival."

However we felt that there were one too many negatives for us. From a visitors point of view, we felt that the photo showing the off road parking for one car was misleading. The Cottage is attached to the owners property and though they weren’t there when we stayed and we had use of all the space shown in the photo, the actual space is to the right and it is very tight to get a vehicle into. Granted we have a VW Transporter so no chance at all of getting in the space if the owners want access too. The property is essentially “in the burbs” on a surprisingly busy road, don’t exactly know why but “The Cottage” conjured up a mental image that was decidedly quieter. The kitchen is well appointed but could do with scissors, a bigger frying pan and instructions for the oven. The lounge is spacious and has a good smart tv (as long as you are already a subscriber to Netflix or Amazon) however the sofa and chairs are very uncomfortable for a relaxing night in front of the tele. The beds are just ok for comfort and there is actually only one wardrobe which we needed to go out and buy hangers for, something could be done quite easily with the airing cupboard in the other bedroom to make another wardrobe. The bedrooms would also benefit from curtains as the blinds let a lot of light in early morning. The bathroom has a good shower and plenty of space but would benefit from a couple of hooks on the door and the towel rail wasn’t working for our stay making it hard to dry any towels (I may be wrong but there were disconnected pipes behind the kitchen bin, could these be for the rail??) By comparison to the many other cottages we’ve stayed in, the info pack should have all the appliance instructions included with it. From our point of view most of the negatives are easily rectified however the location wasn’t ideal but that’s reflected in the rental price. It seems The Cottage is relatively new to the rental market and hopefully the owners will use our critique to provide subsequent visitors all they could need.

A belated thanks for your feedback, although we are sorry that you found too many negatives for your stay. As you acknowledge, we are new to the holiday letting market so are still finding our feet. We do however aim to provide The Cottage to a high standard, given this is part of our family home. The photographs and description are as provided by Sykes, and we have made them aware of your comments, although we note there have been no further adverse mentions since. In practice, parking is not an issue as we are rarely at the property, so guests have use of the entire driveway. And in any event there is ample on-street parking available directly opposite. Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about the amount of passing traffic, but have never considered it excessive over our 50 years of ownership. As regards the additional kitchen equipment, coat hangers / rail and appliance instructions, these items were actioned shortly after your visit. The valves to the towel rail had been turned off after installation and could have been resolved during your stay had we known about them. The only issues which we have not addressed relate to the sofa and chairs in the living room and the blinds in the bedroom. Again, there have been no adverse mentions since but we will keep this under review. Property Owner

  • "The property was nice and comfortable, but when the heating came on the pipes were a bit noisy."

A belated thank you for your feedback, and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Any air in the heating system has since been removed which we hope will have the desired effect! Property Owner
