  • "Ash Cottage is a lovely comfortable place to stay."

It well situated for both Windermere and Bowness on Windermere. If you wish you don't need to use your car once there. The kitchen is very well equipped - Shame that there was no welcome pack - so remember to take some milk ! The lounge is very comfortable, but the TV takes some time to get used to as there are no live TV channels - which is frustrating. There was no visitors book to read through or personal recommendations of things to do which would have been nice. We go to the lakes often so know the area well, but it would be good to have some suggestions. We would definitely book Ash Cottage again and recommend it. For information the top bedroom have very steep stairs to access it.

  • "We loved our stay at Ash Cottage, located in a nice quiet area."

The cottage was super clean, very well presented and well equipped. My children loved staying here and certainly liked the attic room! The stairs are quite steep leading up to it and you have to manoeuvre around the low beam at the top - but not a problem for us. We would definitely recommend this cottage and when we visit the Lake District again, we shall look to book it

  • "We have just spent an amazing week at Ash Cottage!"

The house is just perfect in so many ways. Firstly the location, right between Bo’ness and Windermere meant we could walk loads and were close to everything. The house itself is immaculate and has literally everything you could need. Our kids were loving the board games and books and on a day when the rain caught us unexpectedly we were so happy for the umbrellas in the porch! Small touches that make a big difference. The beds are super comfortable too. Any instructions we needed (putting bin out, working the shower, WiFi, heating etc) were clear and easy. We already can’t wait to book again and we’ve only been back 12 hours! Thanks for a great stay!

Just one comment for the older generation (of witch my wife and I are) toilets are on the first floor

We would have appreciated a down stairs toilet as the stairs were quite steep. We are in our 70’s and normally live in a bungalow.. The bath towels were much to small, luckily our daughter had also brought some towels from home..

  • "Immaculately clean and beautifully presented - felt like a real home from home - could have stayed longer!"

En-suite bathroom could do with an upgrade as seems out of character with the rest of the house (and the main bathroom). Perfectly situated between Bowness and Windermere with a bus stop at end of the road - we never used the car once in the week we were there (and we visted Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick). Did have some issues with the showers and hot water - but owner did have instructions on what to do. Did mean 1 day we all couldn't shower in the morning. Overall a fabulous holiday home that I would book again and recommend to others.

  • "Comfortable cottage with a well stocked kitchen and good facilities."

We had 1 or 2 minor problems (possibly due to the extreme cold weather) with a quick response from maintenance. What would be useful is a booklet with all information/instructions clearly identified in 1 place. Well situated for the town centre shops, restaurants & cafes, the ferries and walking. Thank you

  • "Ash Cottage is a great holiday rental, it is clean, spacious, nicely decorated & well appointed."

It also has lovely gardens, with outdoor seating to the rear. The property is a 10 - 15 minute walk, (people will mobility issues beware, the area is rather hilly) or a short drive, to both Bowness & Windermere and has it’s own drive/parking space. We really enjoyed our stay & would happily recommend to others. Our only small niggles were to do with the lack of ‘Welcome Pack’ we’ve never stayed in a Sykes property without one, and are always excited to see what local treats will be in them. And much more importantly for us, the feather bedding. I specifically checked this with Sykes before our stay & after them making contact with the owner was reassured there wasn’t any. Sadly both the master and second bedroom were partly feather bedding, which I am allergic to and which exacerbates my husbands asthma. Unexpectedly the sofas were also packed full of feathers. So not the ideal start to our much needed holiday.

Hi there, Thank you for your lovely comments regarding Ash Cottage, and that, on the whole, you enjoyed your holiday. We're sorry that you were not informed about the feather bedding but I can confirm that we were not contacted by Sykes about this point. Property Owner

The only problem we had as golden oldies were the stairs up to the twin bedded room ( quite narrow ) and the beams in that room. Perfect for a couple of children but not so good for us. I got used to the beams after bumping my head 4 times !! We really enjoyed sitting in the garden in an evening - It was really peaceful and quiet. All in all a lovely few days away.

Spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we needed. Felt like a wee home away from home. Enjoyed sitting in well kept garden with morning coffee. Excellent base for a holiday in the area. Worth noting it is sited up a slightly steep hill which wasn't an issue for us, but may be for anyone with mobility issues if your preference is to leave the car at property whilst out for dinner. Lots of great bars and restaurants in Bowness. Would definitely return.
