  • "Clean & comfortable cottage in quiet location."

Well equipped. 10 minute walk into the village centre with good butchers and other stores, cafes, restaurants and bars. Nice walks from the cottage and amazing countryside a few minutes drive away. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay and would highly recommend.

  • "Had a lovely stay at Rose cottage."

Very clean and everything you could need. Great base for exploring the area. We visited Bowlee visitor centre and visited the high force waterfall, weather was very wet but didn’t dampen our enthusiasm. If visiting and has been raining make sure you wear wellies or sturdy waterproof shoes . Also visited Hamsterley forest which we enjoyed, Durham castle and Cathedral. Rose cottage had everything we needed , only slight personal criticism was the single bed mattress was too soft for me . But like I say that is personal preference and didn’t spoil the visit . We were contacted by the hosts wishing us a pleasant stay and to ring if we had any issues, which gave us peace of mind. Large garden which would be ideal if you had children. We would highly recommend Rose cottage. Final feedback would be leave a pen with the visitor book as we wanted to write a review. Would definitely visit again.

Ideal for us and our 2 dogs. Lovely welcome pack for humans and dogs. Very clean and comfortable throughout. Fantastic garden, safe for the girls. Heating very managable, so we could have heat where required. Ten out of Ten for us. Thank you. Already booked again for 2024.

Thank you! I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I look forward to welcoming you back once again Property Owner

  • "In general, overall the property was very good, clean and comfortable."

There were a couple of small issues, primarily for the time of year and weather. The wooden floors tended to make the property feel quite cool so the heating needed to be on longer than hoped. Whilst the kitchen is well equipped we felt the table took up too much room and the 4 chairs much to big for the table, it made the kitchen " feel" cramped. Finally we had a "wet" week and the facilities for drying outer coats, boots etc. we're awkward. Maybe a conversion of one of the outside stores could alleviate this issue. But overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay overall. Tom Property Owner

  • "The house is very clean and tidy and had everything we needed."

Everything worked without any difficulty. The enclosed rear garden is a good size and very secure for our dogs. Location is excellent; on a very quiet road a few minutes walk from the town centre and a short walk down a quiet track to the banks of the Tees. We didn't need to use the car for the first couple of days, plenty of walking opportunities straight from the house. We enjoyed an excellent 3 nights.

  • "Stayed in this lovely cottage for 4 days and we didn’t want to leave."

We arrived to a lovely hamper of Prosecco and goodies also a pint of milk in the fridge which was so thoughtful of the owner. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. A lovely size enclosed garden that our 2 whippets loved. 5 minutes walk to the local shops and we found a lovely walk way to the river. Will definitely recommend to our family and friends. 10/10 to Tom the owner of this beautiful property

  • "The cottage is in a charming village with most amenities and friendly locals."

It was clean and well equipped although it would benefit from a few egg cups. There was plenty of clean towels and cleaning materials and a welcoming bottle of wine with a couple of complimentary items. We wanted peace and quiet and that is exactly what we got. The views from the master bedroom are wonderful. There is a decent sized lawn for dogs to have a run and there is a lane that leads to the river. Great for walking the dogs. We enjoyed our week, my only gripe is that we were unable to access the property until 6pm.

Thank you for your feedback, I’m so pleased you enjoyed your stay and you enjoyed some of the walks on the door step. I’ve since purchased egg cups and the check in times were altered to 4pm prior to your arrival but a technical issue on Sykes side didn’t update all previously booked guests. All I can do is apologies. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a lovely quiet location, is spacious and clean."

The village itself is lovely. The hot water for the bath was a bit of a challenge, after following the instructions provided the water did not heat to a sufficient temperature to enjoy a bath, the warm water that was available was only enough to have around 4 inches of water so not suitable. We also found the late check in of 1800hrs unusual, however we were told that day that it was available earlier but not in time to make much of a difference to us. All in all we would visit Middleton in Teesdale again, but unfortunately not this cottage for the reasons given above.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t what you had hoped for. I can confirm that the water was working fine before and after your stay and instructions are also in the property. Since your visit the checking in time has been brought forward, which I could of adjusted to your needs. I am always on hand should anything like the above happen and I do provide my details to everyone at the time of arrival, I am sorry you felt you could not contact me. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at rose cottage!"

! Short (just two days) Exactly as described. Very clean throughout the cottage. Our dog absolutely loved the garden as did the children!! Small village with a shop, few cafes. Short drive to barnard castle which was a great day out. My only annoyance is the dog poo left behind in the garden by other people who have stayed in the cottage. I had two young children playing out there so I do check where they are playing and it was a chore to collect it!! I understand it’s not the owners fault (I think some people just don’t care about others and don’t pick up after their dogs) but I think if dogs have been staying it would be a good idea to check? Thanks, we definitely would stay again so we haven’t been put off!!

Thank you for your feedback, I’m so pleased you enjoyed your stay and I look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Apologies about the garden that’s an oversight from myself, I will make sure it’s checked more thoroughly from now on. Tom Property Owner
