  • "We had stayed at Cottam Cottage farm 8 years ago, when it was relatively new, and on this visit the property still looks and feels new."

It has two very comfortable bedrooms and two spotless bathrooms, and the loungeroom is also very comfortable with a cosy log fire. It is easy to self-cater with great facilities and appliances in the kitchen. The location is central and some great villages and towns, and Yorkshire Dales National Park is only a short drive away. Nathalie, the host, is very helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended - I just wish the cottage was a bit closer to Australia!

Access road is a bit rough but the views and location are superb. Both bathrooms are spectacular and the bedrooms are very spacious. However we felt that the open plan living area is a bit tired and in need of upgrading as is the outdoor furnishing.

  • "A lovely cottage, beautifully situated."

The view is amazing & the rabbits playing in the garden & the deer in the bottom field made it feel quite magical. The cottage itself is very roomy, comfortable & clean. Longridge is a thriving town with independent shops & several supermarkets. The drive up to the cottage is a narrow farm lane, a real bone shaker, but just avoid the rabbits & it’s fine. A really enjoyable stay.

  • "BOOKING REF:A88XU-23-EN PROPERTY REF;30137 A holiday spoiled by the disgracefull condition of the 700 yard track leading to the property."

The whole way was scarred by pothole after pothole so bad that in places there were jagged edges to crumbling bits of tamarc. Driving to the property from the main roadwas hazardous, damaging to tyres and car suspension alike and took five minutes to negotiate, switching direction continuously to avoid the deep holes. It was a shame as the property itself was very comfortable and the view from Cottam lovely. As a journalist, I specialise in rugby football, locally in Wales and nationally but also write travel articles out of season. I have been commissioned to write on our stay in the Ribble Valley but before putting pen to paper, I would appreciate your feed back in relation to my comments. I cannot see how Sykes recommend staying at Cottam Farm Cottage without reference to the hazard that is the lane leading to the property. I am sending this comment by post and would ask for all correspondence to be duplicated by email and postal service. It is all very disappointing and look forawrd to hearing from you Yours soncerely HUW S THOMAS

About the location

RIBCHESTER

Blackburn 7 miles; Clitheroe 9 miles; Preston 11 miles.

The village of Ribchester is encircled by green hills and lies in a curve of the River Ribble mid way between Preston and Clitheroe. It is a pleasant jumble of multi-coloured stone cottages in long twisting terraces. It has three pubs, the White Bull, dated 1707, the Black Bull and the Ribchester Arms and the award-winning Chinese restaurant Yu and You Restaurant and Bar. The White Bull has a porch canopy supported by four columns said to be from Roman ruins. The village takes its name from the River Ribble and the fort of Bremetennacum (the walled town by the Ribble). For this reason, Ribchester has been seen to have a purely Roman foundation, but excavations in 1977 showed that settlements going back to the middle Bronze Age existed in the area. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Ribble Valley is a rural haven of spectacular scenery, diverse natural habitats and historical legend, a place of almost incomparable peace, where adults and children alike can enjoy the simple pleasures of the outdoors without the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Longridge is easily reached, a unique town with plenty of interesting shops and tempting eateries, described as 'big on character' by the Sunday Times and ranked in their '101 Best Places To Live In Britain'. Nearby Clitheroe is famed for its specialist shops of all types, including, amongst others, a sausage shop that sells over seventy-five different varieties! A gourmet's paradise, with award-winning restaurants and country hotels situated throughout the valley, and annual events including a number of agricultural shows and day festivals of all types, this fantastic location has plenty to offer at any time of year!
