  • "A fantastic ground-floor cottage in a lovely Cumbrian village."

A well-equipped kitchen with a double oven. A great shower and bathroom, and the whole house is spotlessly clean. Fast Wi-Fi (70Mbps). Super comfy beds and the whole area is quiet, so a very good night’s sleep. The local pub, just 5 minutes walking is warm and welcoming and very dog friendly. Bring a torch as there are few street lights in the village. Just one niggle, I often work with blind people and so I notice these things. Taps should be hot on the left and cold on the right. The mixer tap in the bathroom is the wrong way around.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you seemed to find it difficult to accept a check-in time of 5 pm (which is clearly stated on the description) as we had explained to you on 2 occasions that this time is at the request of the housekeeping company that looks after our changeovers, and therefore it was not possible to allow an early afternoon check-in, even though you had been to the Cottage before 3.30 pm to try to check-in. We trust that you were happy to accept our gesture of goodwill of the refund for the other nights that you had booked. It’s a shame that you decided to leave before you were able give a true and accurate review for the Cottage. Property Owner

Local pub great for food. Went to Appleby and Kirby Stephen, visited Bay Horse in Winton, nice food, dog friendly. Went to Greystokes village near Penrith The Boot an Shoe pub again great food and dog friendly. Weather wasn’t to good for our stay, but still enjoyed ourselves, this was our 4 time at this cottage and we will be back soon again. A light above the keypad would be good as when checking in at 5pm it’s dark and very difficult to use. Thanks Barry and Karen

  • "A beautiful cottage, Barry & Karen were excellent hosts."

,The cottage is attached to their main house, but is totally private. It hads it own garden to the side and a back patio with a table and 2 chairs. Patio is accessed through the bedroom double patio doors. The queen size bed was luxurious with lovely hotel white bedding. Plenty of white fluffy towels supplied by owners. The one thing I found difficult was the under counter fridge/ freezer was very small. A bigger fridge would be great even with a top box fridge. S slimline dishwasher ensured sparkling clean dishes too. Shower and toilet facilities were excellent with plenty of hot water too. Heating was excellent and had the option for extra heating if required. A last minute booking was a great find for us. We loved the quietness if the cottage and the easy access to the A66 10 miles from Penrith, Would recommend and will happily book again, Nearby Appleby has all you need for grocery shopping, also had some good gift shops too. Great walk along the river too. Many thanks Barry & Karen Kind Regards Carole, Kim & Penny our black Labrador

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
