  • "This made for a perfect base!"

Luxurious yet practical. Literally had everything you could want: comfy bed, gorgeous bath, cosy living space, massive TV, fully functioning kitchen, great bathroom. The parking permit was ideal. It’s in the heart of it all and near all the great pubs and restaurants. Loads of space to dry clothes and boots after walks. We will certainly be back to this gem!

  • "Lovely stay at the old wool loft."

Very comfortable and ideally positioned right in the heart of Ambleside. The parking permit was a great bonus. From previous experience with these cottages we’ve learnt to take the basics. Toilet roll. Hand wash, washing up liquid, logs etc as you will only get enough for the first day! It rained every day so we didn’t sit out on the balcony but it is definitely in need of some tlc but it wouldn’t put me off booking again.

  • "The Wool Loft is lovely, clean and welcoming."

It's very private although near all the eateries and shops. It's furnished very well with lots of different lighting to set the mood, the corner sofa is clean and comfortable. The bed is huge and felt like I was sleeping in a cloud, with a beautiful free standing mirror that bounced light around the room. Loved the freestanding bath in the bedroom, lovely touch. The rooftop garden space was great to sit and relax albeit still winter. All in all we had a perfect weekend and there are plenty of walks from the doorstep too.

  • "We have just returned from staying and im disappointed by the quality and cleanliness of the apartment."

There was only 1 glass in the kitchen (apart from wines glasses) in the cupboard there was a broken plate and cracked mug. The floors are so dirty. I don’t think they have been hoovered in a while. I dropped something under the sofa and was disgusted by the clumps of dust and hair on the floor. We had to wear socks all the weekend as you wouldn’t walk bare foot (would recommend taking slippers) There was loads of hairs everywhere. In had to clean the bath before using it and there was so many hairs in the bed. I had to lit roller the bed but still couldn’t get them all. The amenities are really poor, only got 1 toilet roll, no hand soap in the bathroom, no logs for the fire. We come to celebrate a special birthday and I spent the first day cleaning and it basically put a damper on the whole weekend. The apartment has so most potential as the location and apartment could be great but it’s looking tired, lacks the basics and isn’t clean.

  • "This was listed as luxury accommodation."

Sadly the dishwasher was broken and despite several requests to have it fixed prior to Christmas Day it wasn’t. The two main lights in the lounge didn’t work and were missing bulbs. Bathroom door handle broken. I will be issuing a small claim to claim some funds back as it ruined Christmas and wasn’t as described. The fire door was also filthy as was the terrace which required cleaning and was an extreme hazard. My partner cried for days.

  • "Hi absolutely loved the property."

However whoever is doing the cleaning isn't making a good job. The shower door sliding section was full of dirt as was the shampoo /soap holder. Behind the sofa in the corner was thick of dust and cobwebs. Several of the pans had been put away dirty along with some of the cutlery. The outside patio area is desperately in need of jet washing along with the stairs to front gate as they are covered in green moss , making it slippy. I'm aware this isn't the owners fault , but think they should be made away of this. I took photos of the mentioned issues if you require them forwarded. Look forward to hearing from you.

  • "Super location and very cosy apartment."

We were disappointed on arrival to find an almost empty liquid hand wash which had some water added. Similar situation with washing up liquid. We had to buy both ourselves. Apartment was clean although shower seal needs done with mould remover. Patio has some slippy mould and paintwork needs refreshed. Pleased to have a few logs for the wood burner. We’ve used this apartment before and someone has removed the clothes airer which we used for wet weather clothes. Would be good to replace this. Super wee apartment that just needs some refreshing.

Thank you for your feedback. As this is a self-catering accommodation we do not provide welcome pack products as standard and items like washing up liquid need to be bought in advance. Occasionally, guests will leave some behind and perhaps others may have topped it up with water to make it last longer. For a £1000 a week in August I would expect that kind of re investment. Lakelovers will probably say that my comments will be passed to the owner but going by previous reviews I doubt anything will happen. On a separate note thanks to the maintenance guy who came round in 25 minutes when we couldn't get back in after a piece of clothing got stuck in door lock.

  • "Overall we enjoyed our stay at Old wool loft."

The location is excellent. I agree with some of the other reviews around sweeping the patio area, and new cushions on the sofa (doesn’t cost much to refresh those). It would be good if hand soap was provided in the bathroom as a basic need, we had to go out to get our own of everything, washing liquid, kitchen roll, salt and pepper. These are things that generally come as standard in other lake lovers properties that we’ve stayed in over the years. We were fortunate to have excellent weather all week so really enjoyed using the patio furniture in the evening and people watching from the balcony. The bed was huge and comfortable. The bedroom being in the loft does get very hot, luckily we’d brought our own fan which was a godsend.

It had all the facilities we needed for 2 young people and a dog. It was clean and tidy. It does have a parking permit for 3 local car parks and a 1hr parking disc to allow unloading. This was really helpful, but from the information and previous reviews to me it was not clear if parking was included. The outside area needs a sweep - that is our only negative. However the serious lack of investment shows. On arrival the balcony area where you enter was filthy. We swept the worst of it ourselves. The actual apartment was clean apart from the velux windows which were extremely dirty. They are easy to reach and swivel in for cleaning so there’s no excuse. The kitchen is very poorly equipped. There are no side plates so we ate our toast from bowls. We reported this several months ago and it is no better. The can opener is in the drawer in bits. The pots are in a shocking state and should be thrown out. It’s such a shame because a few hundred pounds of investment would make such a difference. As it stands it is definitely not a gold standard property. Numerous other people have raised the same issues. The positives are it’s cosy, the shower is decent and the bed is comfy. Such a shame about the rest.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad that you found the property to be cosy. We will ask our Housekeeping team to look into this to ensure that our high standards continue to be met. Thank you. Property Owner

The toilet bush was broke and needs replacing, external windows were dirty and need cleaning, pans need replacing as worn out, numerous scuffs and finger prints on the walls both upstairs and downstairs, needs painting There is a big crack above the toilet, why has that not need filled and re painted, spot light in the bedroom falling out, again needs sorting out. We had to call Lakelovers as there was not a single side plate in the kitchen. There were loose electrical wires on the stairs. Lakelovers were very quick to respond by making the cables safe and delivering two plates. It just needs a refresh and the kitchen properly restocked. We were slightly nervous after reading the reviews that the property is tired and in need of a facelift but we didn’t have any issues. Fantastic location right in the centre of Ambleside but was still reasonably quiet in the property. Lovely shower room with powerful shower. Great terrace area which we even to utilise in the September sunshine. Plenty of walks on the doorstep plus lots of pubs and restaurants nearby. Car parks do get very busy towards weekends and if you are going to park outside to unload just be aware of the one way system as the sat nav takes you to the other end of the road. • "Having read previous reviews I would also say the property is looking a bit grubby and most of the walls are marked."

I don’t think it’s a massive problem but as it is marketed as a premium product and is expensive the property should feel fresh and cared for. Whilst we were there the shop below was being refit so during the day there was quite a lot of noise which did make it less desirable to stay inside or on the terrace. The workers also left the gate to the property open whilst we were out meaning anyone could walk up to the property, there was no notice of this so it was a bit annoying. The property itself is wonderful but I didn’t feel like it was a premium product otherwise. Customer service and condition of property a real let down.

The only reasons for not giving full marks would be the outside area needed good clean, we had to buy an outside brush and brush up and clean the drain out which was all but blocked, the steps where dirty and the glass balcony was also in need of good clean! Or could be. It’s listed as gold star but it’s not. It’s grubby, smelt musty and the paintwork was chipped/peeling. Not just a bit but badly in the bathroom. Lots of scuffs and knocks and the sofa cushions grubby. There has been other feedback like this for the owner to see but they’ve done nothing and therefore it’s status should be downgraded. It could be stunning but it’s been done on the cheap yet is charged out at top dollar. The mattress was so hard the we actively looked forward to coming home to give our backs a rest. On plus side the location was perfect and it was super cosy and piping hot water/lovely shower. Please don’t list something as A* when it’s not, it’s not fair. I’ve stayed with you 6-8 times, always fab but this time disappointing. Sorry, I’m being honest so it can be rectified. Jo

Well equipped property with comfortable bed, lovely bath in the bedroom which was quirky, powerful shower in the separate bathroom downstairs. The extractor fan could do with a good clean too. Some cracks in the paintwork and plaster which will need some attention, and I notified Sykes about a hole beneath the carpet in the entrance hall. This is at the very bottom of the stairs, so caught me out a couple of times as you can't see it beneath the black carpet. That definitely needs some immediate attention!
