A brief car journey south of your lodgings will bring you to Hexham, where you can find the lush greens of Hexham Park, the Hexham Old Gaol Museum, as well as the Corbridge Roman Town.
Alternatively, a car trip north will take you into the wonderful Kielder Forest Park, where you can embark on a hike through Hareshaw Linn to the Waterfall, roam the grounds of the Roman fort and Museum - Vindolanda, and even get up close and personal with birds of prey at the Falconry Days safari park.
