The cottage was very clean, the heating was not good at all 2 small radiators downstairs, and the radiators in the bedroom were both twice as big as downstairs, the frond door was very badly fitted and the draft though the door let all the heat out, all the heat from downstairs disappeared upstairs, lovely cottage but not suitable for the winter, we returned home at about 6 pm on the Tuesday and there was no water, I went outside to see if anyone was in the other cottages to check if they had same problem, was nobody about was not sure weather the heating would work with no water so switched heating of, rang the emergency number that gave me another number, both numbers not unavailable , felt very uncomfortable with no help available, so called my daughter, who tried same numbers and had no luck with them, after we sat in the cold for 3 hours we made the decision to return home 2 days earlier, we are both in our 80 to have no back up to reassure us is not acceptable , no duty of care to your customers, have rented many cottages in the past and there has always been a emergency number in the welcome folder, and as for £50 good will payment that is an insult yours Mrs D wood

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I can see on the notes that there was a water leak in the area, affecting hundreds of properties. Unfortunately, this is out of our control. I can see that the water was reinstated in the early morning, but this was after you had left the property. We are sorry that there were some issues with contacting the out of hours services, I can confirm that this has now been investigated. The emergency contact information can be found on your arrival instructions email but we will ensure the welcome book is up to date. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

  • "Great little cottage just outside Windermere - about a 30 min walk to the centre/facilities."

It's also close to the bus stop on the main route to Kendal/Keswick. Cottage has great WiFi (if you need to work from 'home') and we didn't find there was anything missing that we would have needed! The garage opposite has logs/fuel for the log burner. We loved and would recommend the Mortal Man pub for food in Troutbeck. Only very minor criticism is that it took a little while to warm the cottage up when we arrived, but possibly it hadn't been occupied for a couple of weeks and it was pretty cold out! But that was quickly resolved, and the beds and shower were good!

  • "Property was clean and tidy with good furniture."

Bathroom handsoap appreciated as well as kitchen but poor on provision of washing up liquid and only one toilet roll. When one packs for a holiday which you're paying a lot of money for each day we don't think its fair expect the tenants to have to go out and buy more toilet rolls and washing up liquid! A small thing but makes a big difference to your shopping plans and items taken home again. We have said this before but nothing has changed.

The cottage is very well equipped, comfortable and in a good location to travel to local places of interest. The driveway to access the cottage perhaps in need of repair as there are pot holes and it is very uneven in places.

The property was clean, and the kitchen had everything you would need for a self-catering holiday. Although laid back from a road which you cannot see – there was no traffic noise and we found it very peaceful. We took walks straight from the door and had a great week in Jasmine Cottage.

Beds were very comfortable, and there was plenty of storage e.g. wardrobe space etc. and the kitchen had all that was needed.

  • "The cottage was well located."

It is close to the main road and a nearby petrol station / convenience store (and bus stop if needed), but you can't see or hear the road from the cottage. The cottage was very clean and warm, with good internet, comfortable beds and great shower. It has been thoughtfully furnished and equipped, with a map on the wall and information on local walks. The log fire lights easily and there are logs and kindling available in the local store.

  • "Brambles and vegetation overgrowing driveway leading to property."

Felt obliged to cut it back. Parking area was a raised concrete platform, which was also overgrown on one side, which limited width of space, and so did not feel safe trying to park there. Could not find the radio/CD player. Bed was very comfortable, and shower nice and hot although it was difficult to get the correct setting for the first two nights. Think thermostatic adjustment control needs attention. Good location.

  • "The cottage is small but cosy, I feel it could be time to update the sofa as they were not very comfortable and the beds are very squeaky and could also be more comfortable."

Don’t take too much stuff with you as the rooms are small, but there is a decent amount of storage in the bedrooms despite the drawers being very cheap and not opening very well on the runners. The shower room was adequate and the shower itswkf was excellent, there were also lots of handy little touches like the rechargeable torches in the bedrooms and by the back door. The log burner is a nice touch too. My only real gripe is whoever cleaned the cottage before our arrival did not do a very good job as the drawers in the single bedroom were still full of someone else’s clothes and also 2 unopened boxes of cigarettes were in the bedside drawer…not great when this is presumably usually a children’s room (and was being used as such by myself for my 10 year old son who was the one who found them!) and there are readily available matches for the log burner left in reach of children in the downstairs lounge area. Could have been a disaster! The clatter also smelt a bit like cigarettes when we arrived and I thought it was supposed to be a smoking free cottage.

Shower and log burner amazing! Fully equipped and comfortable. Outdoor furniture a nice touch. Struggled to get logs for the log burner so a starter basket of logs/kindling/ paper would have been appreciated. I called heart of the lakes and Sykes on many occasions, also e-mailed, a maintenance man who attended the property but was unable to fix, therefore recommended an engineer, who did not arrive whilst we were there. I did not plan to wash laundry whilst on holiday but did want to dry swim gear, particularly dry robe. Heart of the lakes did send out clean sheets/towels/duvets after I complained... When I changed the bed I noticed that the duvet was dirty, had stains on it also the mattress protector. How often are they changed or washed?

  • "The appearance of the cottage, cleanliness and its situation with a garage/Spar over the road were very convenient."

The beds were uncomfortable - hence our leaving earlier than planned because my husband's back had reached its limit. the wire netting is insufficient support. A salad spinner was the only missing piece of equipment and we had to telephone to have the bin emptied since it was full when we arrived and again to have the weekly linen change. As we advised the young man we spoke to, the remote control of the television did not function properly even though we changed the batteries.

We are very sorry your husband didn’t find the beds comfortable. It is difficult to suit everyone with the choice of mattresses and they obviously didn’t suit him. For the reference of any future guests the beds have slatted wooden bases. The double bed has a Silentnight miracoil mattress with an Eve memory foam topper. The single bed has a Tempur original memory foam mattress. Property Owner

  • "The property was advertised as having Wi-Fi internet."

The Wi-Fi was almost useless due to its poor speed. The last time I used an internet connection of this poor quality was in the 1990's using a dialup connection. I ended up using the Internet hotspot on my mobile phone which was significantly faster than the Wi-Fi in the cottage. If I had know this prior to booking I wouldn't have booked this cottage.

Thank you for taking the time to provide additional feedback following your stay. We were sorry to read you had issues with the WiFi at the cottage. If this happens to anyone in future do please contact Heart of the Lakes so that we can get in touch with Plusnet to report a fault. I have worked from the cottage and had no problem with zoom meetings, downloading documents or streaming films. This must have been an external issue with the internet provider. Property Owner

Enter the cottage from the back door into the open-plan kitchen where you can make use of the integrated appliances and whip up a hearty breakfast or sumptuous feast.

Head into the sitting area for an evening on the sofa, complemented with a glass of wine while you discuss the plans for the rest of the week.

As the evening draws to a close, upstairs awaits a double bedroom and a single bedroom with deep set windows that offer idyllic views of the surrounding greenery.

Step outside and spend a moment at the garden table and chairs before taking a stroll down to the shores of Lake Windermere where you can admire views of the water, or venture slightly further afield to the town of Windermere for a selection of eateries, as well as shops for picking up any essentials.

A trip to the Lake District wouldn’t be complete without a cruise on board the historic steamers which stop off at several towns and villages around the lake.

Catch one of these boats to Lakeside to visit the Lakes Aquarium and marvel at the fascinating underwater creatures, or head to Bowness-on-Windermere to see The World of Beatrix Potter Experience, a great choice for those with little ones, and discover the historic Ambleside Roman Fort in Ambleside for history lovers.

For those keen walkers, look forward to climbing the Claife Heights, the Langdale Pikes, Helvellyn, The Old Man of Coniston, or travel further afield to climb the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike.

Why not plan a day out to Keswick, home to some fascinating attractions such as the Derwent Pencil Museum and Puzzling Place – an optical illusions & artwork exhibition.

At the end of a busy fun-filled day, look forward to returning to the comfort of Jasmine Cottage in the Lake District.
