The thriving village of Coniston has some excellent pubs and even has its own brewery producing Bluebird Bitter, and offers fantastic natural attractions including Lake Coniston where Donald Campbell broke four World Water Speed Records in 1950, before sadly fatefully crashing on the lake in 1967. His fully restored Bluebird K7 boat is now housed in Ruskin Museum nearby. The Old Man of Coniston sits majestically behind the village providing a stunning backdrop, and this Coniston cottage makes an excellent walking base, with many routes available from the door to Tarn Hows, Tilberthwaite and the charming village of Hawkshead, which has some interesting shops and is home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery.
