  • "What a wonderful stay we had."

Myself and my partner work in the NHS and we both needed a relaxing holiday with zero plans, just the perfect destination. We got both. This was also our first holiday with our Pupper Endor. The whole place and area around were just perfection. We did get visits by the locals (sheep) but they just added to trip. We loved the set up of the house and all needed amenities. The stream was so relaxing to hear. We have shown everyone the photos and hope they get the chance to book here.

  • "The directions to the property were awful lots of wasted time & stress down single lanes to end up at the property."

Beautiful surroundings however the old mill needs some TLC. Upgrade of facilities & curtains needed. First night my son had to share with me & my husband as the springs were coming through his mattress, the mattress was replaced the next day, however it shouldn’t have come to us complaining it should be something that is checked. Cobwebs/spiders everywhere… side of bedside tables, under kitchen counter, in all window frames. Windows dirty covered with bird poo. Kitchen table & counter had bits on & the extractor fan is filthy. I had to wipe everything down. Blankets & pillows on sofa was smelly like curry & clumps of hair hanging from beams. Also, patio area is dangerous for kids & dogs due to no barrier or sign of drop. Stairs are also not safe in my opinion for kids & dogs due to them being wooden, steep & windy.

Beautiful property in a lovely location. The garden is amazing and our children and dog loved the river. We even had a pint of milk and some biscuits left for us by the owner which was a lovely touch. We would definitely book this property again.

  • "This property is a well maintained luxurious stay at the countryside."

We got exactly what we came for.. had a wonderfully calm and relaxing experience in the nature. The owner, Catherine is very kind and helped us personally since it is a remotely located place and its difficult to reach there. Will definitely love to visit again. Highly recommended for a perfect getaway in the nature from the busy life.

  • "Listing says fuel included, theres no way to turn the heating on,(we wouldnt have booked this if we had known and feel the listing is misleading on this matter) contacted owner and told its timed and only came on at 6pm(so we had to wait) and then it was intermittent,3 mins on then 10 mins off, so in the roughly 4 hours of heating we were allowed we actually got 1 hour."

The raditors didnt get hot at all,no heating all day so freezing in the morning as one day it was 4 degrees and frosty.no other form of heating eg fire/stove .ended up wearing coats and hats for breakfast then going out all day.the downstairs smelt strongly of oil,(as the boiler was locked in a cupboard under the stairs) which gave us a cough, headache and bad chest, hard to avoid the smell as both bedrooms and bathroom are located next to it. all bed linen was damp as cottage obviously hadnt been aired or had heating on for weeks, smelt stale and musty, had to sleep in bunk beds(which werent made up) as main bedroom had draughty door.no double glazing at all.no extra blankets etc.opened skylight to let fresh air in and hundreds of flies filled the room, maggots seemed to have hatched inside the lining of the skylight. decor very dated and worn out.

  • "The nearby town is really nice, a few pubs, convenience shop, nice village to walk round."

Could only really stay though for a few days not alot to do there really quiet. The cottage is in a very peaceful spot, very nice grounds, ideal for our dog he could have a good run. I think some outdoor lighting would be good very dark at night would of been nice to look out of a night and still see the grounds. The cottage is very old and quirky looking. The kitchen was a good size, good facilities, nice outlook on to the grounds. Good size dining area especially for a family. The lounge is upstairs, very cosy. The tv was a bit hit and miss sometimes no signal but we managed. The bedrooms and bathroom are downstairs again very cosy and comfortable. The bathroom was always full of bugs but didnt bother me to much. Outside is a table and chairs and a bbq would be lovely in the summer. We would stay as great for the dog he had plenty of space to play!

  • "3 days of pure peace and quiet."

A quaint cottage in beautiful surroundings, the outside area is huge with a cute stream running through it. It was spotlessly clean and tidy with everything needed for a relaxing stay. Catherine was really lovely and the welsh cakes left for us on arrival was a lovely gesture, thank you. The internet on tv in the evening was a bit hit and miss but we managed. There are some amazing places to visit quite close by and little village itself has a few nice shops and a few stalls selling homemade items. If the lady selling home made samosas and onion bhaji is there buy some theyre gorgeous. A hidden gem in a beautiful part of Wales. I would definately go back there.

  • "This property and location were ideal for our holiday."

The property and grounds alone provided the peace and stunning surrounds we sought. There were pleasant lane walks, virtually traffic free, in the immediate surrounds and abundant things to do a bit further afield - we particularly enjoyed the Llanfair C to Welshpool light railway.

The property

Nestled in the peaceful countryside on the outskirts of Llanfyllin, Powys is this idyllic detached cottage, Yr Hen Felin.

Welsh for 'the old mill', the property was once a bustling workshop, but now welcomes a family or group of six and their canine companion for a rural escape in a beautiful region of Wales.

Follow a private driveway across a little bridge where your home-away-from-home awaits; ample off-road parking is available right in front of the property to easily unload your luggage!

Step into the porch to kick off your walking shoes after a long hike, before settling into the spacious, L-shaped kitchen/diner.

Perfectly appointed for socialising, gather around the large, wooden dining table for six whilst the group's chef prepares home-cooked treats in the kitchen, equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and a dishwasher to keep the space tidy; remnants of the old mill can be found throughout the property, including the old, brick bread oven nestled in the wall!

Follow the winding stairs up to the first-floor sitting room, where high, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and Velux windows bring plenty of natural light into the snug, cottage-style space; retreat to the reading corner with a good book or snuggle up on the cushioned sofas with your favourite show on the TV.

After the day's adventures, head to the lower ground floor and rinse off the day in the shower room, before catching your rest in one of two bedroom.

Both the double and triple bunk provide storage space for your belongings and characterful, whilst the double also has access to the garden.

With so much outdoor space for pets and little ones to play, why not head outside with your morning cup of coffee to the picnic bench?

Listen to the babbling stream and enjoy the peace and quiet of your gorgeous, rural retreat.

There are an abundance of scenic walks and cycling opportunities right from the doorstep, while the whole area is alive with interesting birdlife; explore the nearby Berwyn Mountains, the enchanting Lake Vyrnwy, and Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, a magical spot for a picnic.

A short drive into Llanfyllin offers plenty of shops and eateries to choose from, alongside attractions within the Cain Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including Y Dolydd, an early 19th-century workhouse.

Welshpool is another bustling market town a little further south to discover local artefacts at The Wharf Powysland Museum, take a stroll along the picture-perfect canal, or visit the unique Powis Castle and its celebrated gardens.

A truly magnificent holiday base at any time of year, choose Yr Hen Felin for your holiday to Wales.
