Sarah was a very friendly and helpful owner. The cottage was beautifully decorated for Christmas with trees and bedding. The cottage was well equipped. My little doggie enjoyed his stay. Even though the weather was very windy it was dry so we were able to get out and do lots of walking. Would recommend Burton Constable Gardens, Sewerby Park and Dane’s Dykes as great places to go for a walk with a dog. Would like to revisit and stay at Cupid’s Cottage in the future.

  • "The property was in a great location."

Lovely walks around the fields and down to the coast. Could do with a little up grading especially in the bathroom. Also being as Bt Fibre is available in the area this would be of great benefit as wi-fi was very poor. Sarah was very nice and welcoming to her property. Thanks for a nice week.

Thank you so much for your comments - it's really helpful to me, to know what to prioritize. I've made an arrangement with a local builder to come every Saturday to make running repairs - and your arrival day should have seen new bathroom furniture fitted, but a water leak suddenly took precedence :-( But that's sorted and this Saturday the bathroom gets new lino, then the room is scheduled to be painted shortly. This summer I was so excited to see that superfast broadband was being wired in to the village, but I didn't know it was up and running - so, thanks to you passing on the good news, superfast broadband is getting installed on Wednesday 14th September. I'm so thrilled - it has been so embarrasing having to warn visitors about the current wifi slowness. Property Owner

  • "We found the cottage to be in a lovely location, the garden was great and the owner gave us a warm welcome along with the provision of milk, biscuits and fresh eggs."

However, after first glimpse, the cottage was very tired looking and the bathroom was damp, on the penultimate day we noticed black mould on the bottom of the bedroom curtains. We just felt it needed a good deep clean and better ventilation and flooring in the bathroom. A new washing line would be a quick win to aid drying swimwear and towels.

Thank you for your feedback, the owner has acted immediately upon receiving this review, the cleaner had noticed a leak behind the sink, a builder was due into the property following your stay to install new flooring in the bathroom, new bath panels, and also new skirting boards. Thank you for letting us know about the mould, this has now been addressed. Property Owner

I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed your stay, but if you'd mentioned about wanting private seating, instead of using the communal table and chairs, I would have been very happy to move the bench from outside the house. I used to have a wooden bench either side of your door, but in 6 years neither were used, so when I relaid the courtyard, I took them away and find guests use the space on changeover day, to pull their cars right to the door, to pack or unpack - but I could easily pop a bench there during guests stay. Thank you so much for the hint and I'll try to remember to ask guests in future. Property Owner

Cupids Cottage is a perfect cozy cottage for a romantic holiday and our little dog Bear enjoyed it immensely. We would highly recommend a stay at Cupids Cottage which is relatively close to the sea coast. The local choice of takeaways/food shops is excellent and we would highly recommend the 'Local Fish and Chip shop' which is less than a 5 minute drive away (p.s. they also deliver!) The size of the large cod and chips was massive and delicious, we certainly recommend it if staying at Cupids Cottage. • "Unfortunately, the cottage was full of spiders and cobwebs and the rug in the lounge was covered in dog hairs and not in very good condition at all."

The lounge curtain reached the floor and looked like it was covered in mould at the bottom. The kitchen curtains failed to meet in the middle. The small curtain in the bedroom could not be opened because there was so much dust on it, it would not move. The shower curtain looked ancient. There was a used dish cloth and sponge in the kitchen, fortunately, we had taken our own so didn't need to use the minging ones! The cottage really looked uncared for, it needed decorating throughout. The owner told one of the other guests that she had gone through four different cleaners and was struggling to get anyone, but this did not really account for the lack of maintenance of the cottage.

    1. Spiders. We try to get rid of spiders, every Saturday, but spiders can build a complete web in 1 hour, so they are impossible to keep up with, in the summer. 2. The rug is the rooms feature, but is horrendous to hoover. It was professionally cleaned in the spring, but does seem to attract dog hairs and is the main challenge for the cleaners. I will think of replacing it this winter, but need to find a feature rug to fill the space. 3. Curtains - I'd just had new curtain rails fitted and had bought new curtains, but not had time to fit them, but would have been thrilled if you had mentioned the problem, as that would have allowed me to fit the new curtains. I didn't realise the curtains didn't meet in the middle, on the new rail, but new curtains have addressed these problems. 4. Bedroom curtain - for some reason the hooks don't run well on the tracks - new rail too, so I'll need to get silicone. Would have done this, if you'd mentioned it. 5. Shower curtain did need replacing and I did this as soon as I read the review - just hadn't noticed - so sorry. 6. Dish cloth and sponge - these are items I replace weekly, so no idea A) how I missed doing this and B) how they could have been minging. Do wish you'd mentioned my omission. 7. Cleaners - it has been difficult to get reliable cleaners, who can fit in with variable cleaning days, etc, but the current ones are really good and this is the only complaint I've received. 8. Decorating. The cottages all get repainted, etc, each winter. I am so very sorry that you obviously had a miserable time - and so sorry that I forgot to ask you to tell me if there was anything I could do to improve your holiday, whilst you were staying, as I feel that might have reduced the time that you had to put up with all the faults. I adore trying to make holidays special and feel I let you down badly. Property Owner

Bessingby Mews

Bridlington 2 miles. A small group of three mews properties and large farmhouse set around an attractive courtyard, in a quiet position in Bessingby village, two miles from the coastal town of Bridlington and just one mile from Bridlington's Old Town. Access is via a private arched entrance, with courtyard off road parking outside each property. Sympathetically converted from former cow sheds and farmhouse, the properties are individually styled to provide comfortable and homely holiday cottages, suitable for couples or families wanting to stay in a tranquil and peaceful setting, but be within a five minute drive to the popular and bustling seaside resort of Bridlington. The three smaller cottages benefit from all ground floor accommodation, whilst the larger one can cater for family reunions or groups of friends. Each property has access to a large, communal lawned garden to the rear with mature trees, shrubs and seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs that guests are welcome to pick, plus an assortment of free extras, such as beach items on a first come, first served basis. There is also a barbecue and furniture for you to sit, relax, and meet the neighbours and a summerhouse which makes a fantastic bird hide. There is no pub or shop in the village, however you will find the shop and the dog friendly pub is less than a mile away. The traditional seaside town of Bridlington has long sandy, award-winning beaches, shops, pubs, tea rooms and the Spa Theatre. Stroll along the promenade, build sandcastles on the beach, enjoy a trip into the bay on the Yorkshire Belle, or for the more adventurous, try the pirate ship or the speedboat. The quieter resort of Filey lies a little further along the coast and is like stepping back in time, with its quaint coble landing, cobbled roads down to the beach and its brightly painted beach huts. Nature lovers must visit Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve, with its wonderful colonies of nesting sea birds, including puffins in the summer months and the largest mainland colony of gannets in the country, whilst the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds are ripe for exploring. With many attractions in the area, these courtyard cottages provide an excellent base for a varied and happy holiday.
