  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

The cottage was clean and comfortable and well equipped plus there was a little 'welcome pack' waiting for us on arrival. The property is beautifully situated, cosy and homely. Street parking near the cottage is easy the views and nearby walks were lovely.

  • "Had a lovely week here earlier this month."

The place was spotless,in a good location and the owner was very quick to respond when I had to contact regarding one small issue. Would definitely recommend. The welcome basket was a nice touch as well.

  • "A really nice property."

My only qualm is that the cooker is a bit idiosyncratic!

  • "There was a fair bit lacking, the rental didn't matchup to expectations from the listing and the reality is that this rental lacks basic equipment, maintenance, and doesn't even attempt to please pm the aesthetics front."

Examples are: No colander No coffeemaker or coffee press Very cheap pans, no baking tray other than the oven tray Generic art work of London rather than any local art Exterior wall in garden exposed wires hanging from wall Shower hose has no where to hang it beds incredibly soft to the point of getting back ache Sofa looks nice but no support probably a Dunelm cheap one No brush mats to come into with boots and dog - this is a walking area! The listing needs to update that the pub closed and so did the bistro so nothing here other than the co-op. The cleaning was to a good standard so no fault there. Everything kitted out is done on the cheap to look okay but no quality and that include the thin curtains upstairs where the light streams in.

Thank you for staying at Rose Cottage and for your feedback. With regards to the Bistro, this was open and then closed without notice within a few hours so until we were aware of this we were unable to update the listing. We were advised the pub was under new management and by following their social media accounts we were on the understanding they were opening before they actually did, as you can appreciate we can only go by what we are told as we have no involvement with the pub or bistro. • "Rose cottage was delightful!"

As an interior designer there were a few tweaks that I would suggest to make my survey a 5 out of five. I did leave a Bath mat as the bath was lethally slippy (one of our party was partially disabled) the paintwork needed to be cleaned, I think it needs gloss paint. The kitchen needs a colander. The information provided was unclear as to what to do with the rubbish as there didn’t seem to be a dustbin! All in all we enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t got a disability if any kind.

Hi Lucinda, Thank you for your feedback and thank you for choosing Rose Cottage for your stay. We have taken onboard the feedback you provided and the cottage now has a colander in the kitchen. In the welcome pack we've advised guests to leave any rubbish bags outside the cottage and we will collect them as our wheelie bins are situated in the garage attached and we are more than happy to remove the rubbish bags during or at the end of your stay. • "Lovely welcoming gesture appreciated after a long journey."

Perfect amenities for a short stay within reach of several familiar seaside locations. Would recommend a trip to the uncommercialised Saltburn. Pillows and bed very comfy. The settee was perfect for lounging on after a day out. Shame about the local pub being closed but would recommend the warm welcome at The Esk in the valley below.

Thank you for the nice review. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the stay. Hope to see you again. Kind regards Cindy - Rose Cottage Property Owner

  • "Fabulous cottage, very spacious and clean."

Coop just up the road, 2 pubs in walking distance. Loved the welcome basket of wine, coffee and locally make cake. Kitchen had plenty of utensils and a dishwasher. All beds and sofa we very comfortable, ample storage in the bedrooms and hangers too. Had a lovely time exploring the area, the local sheep in the village aren't in a rush to go anywhere

Very helpful owner. Friendly village where everyone says hello and passes the time of day. Michelin guide restaurant at the Eskdale pub next door to the station, and trains to Whitby and Middlesborough on the scenic Esk Valley Line. Would stay here again.

  • "We had a fantastic stay with 2 friends and everything was good."

Just a couple of minor points. There was no corkscrew and no DVD player. We have stayed in several Sykes cottages over the years and this was the first time without a player. However it did not spoil our stay and we would definitely recommend this property and rebook again in the future.

  • "This was a lovely holiday hideaway."

The owner had thought of everything you could need on a self-catering holiday. The cottage was very clean and well-equipped and the bed was extremely comfortable. We loved the Welcome Basket. Although there is only street parking we had no difficulty in finding parking near the property.

This delightful holiday retreat exceeded all my expectations! The cottage's prime location just a short distance from both Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay made it the ideal base for exploring the stunning coastal towns. The cottage itself was a true gem. The well-equipped kitchen provided everything I needed to prepare delicious meals, and the comfortable bedrooms ensured a restful night's sleep. The friendly and helpful owners made my stay even more enjoyable including a bottle of wine, milk in the fridge and some delicious brownies from the local shop.
