  • "Rockfish was a perfect setting for a week exploring the Yorkshire coast."

The cottage has everything you would need, including a lovely welcome hamper. The parking behind the house was really helpful and the small courtyard area was great for keeping buckets and nets for my rockpooling mad children. We liked the location and enjoyed the little walk down to the harbour. We had a nice meal at the cod and lobster. Would definitely recommend!

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Rockfish in Staithes. It is rock pool heaven at low tide. Thanks for your kind words and hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "We stayed at Rockfish Cottage, Staithes for seven nights and were very happy with the homeliness, comfort and cleanliness of the property."

The owner had provided a basket of assorted goodies together with wine and flowers which was a nice personal touch and a nice welcome. The property is located approximately 10 minutes walking distance from the village itself which has two very good pubs serving good food, in addition to a selection of gift and art shops - be aware though, that there is a very steep hill in and out of the village and cars are not allowed. The cottage has ample parking for one car to the rear of the property. There is a Coop just a short walk away and the fish and chip shop is located virtually opposite the cottage which is dine in or takeaway and we highly recommend it. All in all, it’s fair to say that everything exceeded our expectations.

Thank you for your lovely review and glad you enjoyed Rockfish at Staithes. Property Owner

  • "A lovely little house and a great location."

Very clean and great facilities. The beds were super comfy! The stairs are steep as advertised and they're also not very deep. This was fine for us as all fit and able, but perhaps tricky for some guests. I know you can't alter the stairs, but worth mentioning.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us your review, and your lovely comments. We guess the victorians felt like many things stairs are to be endured and not enjoyed, and as you say little can be done despite exploring options. We are delighted you had a good holiday and thank you for choosing Rockfish Cottage. Property Owner

The house is beautifully furnished and a great base for exploring Staithes, Whitby and Saltburn on sea. The stairs are steep but we managed and this is in the description so we knew they would be. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was fantastic. Great to have a parking space too. Thank you for a lovely week.

  • "This property was well maintained and clean."

We were impressed with the high standard. The only downside was the first night early hours of the morning the boiler kicked in which was loud and woke the people sleeping upstairs, but we turned it off for the rest of the stay. Parking is convenient and the neighbours were friendly.

Thanks for your lovely comments. We are blessed to live in such a beautiful location and indeed we have fantastic neighbours to. Indeed much of the artwork on our walls is of their making. Property Owner

  • "Just back from a fabulous week at Rockfish Cottage, Staithes."

The cottage was perfect in every way and the communication prior to arrival, with the owner Martin, was super helpful regarding parking instructions etc. The cottage benefits from a high quality finish and all internal appliances, soft furnishings etc are of an exceptional standard for any home, let alone a holiday let! The welcome hamper was also outstanding, including really thoughtful flowers. Thank you ! The location of the Cottage is perfect as it's just on the fringes of the village but close enough for a walk down to the local pubs and amenities. All of which can be reached in maximum 10 mins walk. The local bus service is extremely regular with the bus stop for Whitby to Middlesbrough, (and everywhere in between) just at the end of the road. Handy if you don't want to battle for parking in Whitby, Saltburn etc. Would certainly recommend Rockfish Cottage to anyone who has it on their shortlist . You won't be disappointed .

Close to a co-op and pub, also close to the centre /beach/harbour area. There is a bus stop close by too that has busses that take you into Whitby or Saltburn (and other places along route). The cottage itself is really lovely and parking is a bonus during summer months in Staithes! An absolute suprise bonus was the very generous welcome pack (we arrived very late so that was especially welcome)! We would most definitely return.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a generous welcome hamper full of goodies. The owners were in contact with us before we arrived to check if we had any questions. We did not have a car and it was perfectly situated for us to visit some really nice local pubs in & outside the village on foot, who served great homemade food, as well as a local Co-op, just a few minutes away. It was also well situated for us to undertake some successful circular walks, where we were able to take in some of the amazing rugged coastline. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We are very fortunate with our location and have some great places to visit, walk, and sightsee almost on the doorstep. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We hope Staithes and Rockfish Cottage will see you again. Kind regards Martin Property Owner

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
