    • “Just returned from a weeks stay in this amazing cottage in the Yorkshire village of Ferrensby. It is owned by a lovely couple Fiona and Mark who make you very welcome. The cottage is in an ideal location for visiting York, Harrogate and the lovely town of Knaresborough which is only a few miles away.”

    • “Fantastic week in a cosy home from home!!”

    • “Myself, my husband and our 8 month old son stayed in the Sun House for a week and it was just perfect - the owners were extremely helpful and we arranged pick up of the keys with no problem at all - after some useful instructions regarding the cottage, and some advice on what might be good to see/do, they left us to it for the week, on hand if we needed them for anything. The cottage was modern, clean, cosy and fully equipped with everything we needed - particularly liked the kitchen/dining area where we had most of our evening meals. We had a car so location was perfect really for visiting the local area, and driving to York and Harrogate. So much to see and do in the area, a week was not really long enough! It was a relaxing week, with the cottage providing a cosy 'homely' base for our holiday - it was just right for us and our baby son... but I suspect it would be perfect for a couple to have a romantic getaway!! Would love to go back!”

    • “Lovely cottage and gardens”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Lovely cottage, gardens and orchard and and Paul could not have been nicer. His restoration of the property was excellent and great attention was paid to little details inside the cottage. There was more than enough matching cutlery and dishes and all that one would require. The location was quiet and sheltered and we enjoyed our stay. Anyone wishing to go to York would be wise to take advantage of the Park and Ride system. We liked the cottage and Paul best and no negative points except if one only wanted a drink or a pub meal one would need to use the car.”

    • “If you wan't a quiet cosy retreat for two this cottage will take some beating with it's fully restored accomodation to an excellent standard, providing everthing needed for a weekend or longer. We stayed 1 week and could quite happly stayed another week as although in a quiet rural area it was central to visit main places of interest e.g. York, Harrogate, Skipton and the Dales. The owner was very helpful and friendly prior to arriving and throughout our stay. I would say this is one of the best cottages and most beautiful areas I have stayed in, highly recommended.”

About the location

Knaresborough 3 miles; Harrogate 6 miles; York 18 miles.

Ferrensby is a small rural village three miles from Knaresborough. Situated so close to the old Great North Road, it is not surprising that the biggest attraction in the village is an old coaching inn, the General Tarleton. The inn has been there for some 250 years, but in recent times it has developed into a particularly well reputed restaurant as well as remaining a proper country inn. At the edge of the quiet village, which has some attractive Georgian properties, there is an adventure maze to amuse and exhaust the kids. Nearby, Knaresborough is an ancient market and spa town on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, overlooking the River Nidd, and is one of the prettiest towns in North Yorkshire. Visit Mother Shipton's well, the Courthouse Museum, "Ye Oldest Chymist Shoppe in England" which dates back to 1720 and the House in the Rock. Enjoy wonderful walks by the river, cycling, climbing, fishing, boating or just take in the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful scenery. There are many interesting shops and galleries, and a market on Wednesdays. The historic cathedral cities of Ripon and York are close by, as are the Spa town of Harrogate, the great stately homes of Castle Howard and Harewood House, the Cistercian Abbeys of Fountains, Rievaulx and Jervaulx, and the castles of Middleham, Bolton and Richmond.
