Me, my husband, two kids and our dog. Stunning area and walks and not far to Whitby or Saltburn. We will definitely be coming back! Thank you

  • "The cottage was cold."

Kitchen appliances not user friendly. I could not use the log burner. I bought longs but I was unable to source kindling. The cottage was mostly clean the double bed was comfortable. I didn't know the cottage living room did not have windows with views to the outside location. It was dark in the daytime and miserable with it being cold as well. Only the final day had fine weather and so more time was spent at the accomodation. The weather can't be helped but nobody to make contact with meant I was cold throughout. The owner message me to say she was away from home. Another local contact person should have been available.

I’m sorry to hear about your issues regarding your recent stay. I wish that during our correspondence regarding the use of the oven, you had mentioned your further issues so I could have addressed them. The log burner is not set outside of the winter months, but can be used at anytime, however the central heating system is in good working order. Sykes Lettings are available via phone/email contact and I am always happy to help with queries so that your stay is pleasant. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "Cottage break was ruined by large amount of damp over the bathroom, hall, living room and kitchen walls."

Paint is flaking all over the kitchen area. The carpets in the bedroom had dog mess on them on arrival. I contacted the owner via the booking portal and had to wait 2 weeks for a reply (chased by skyes several times) only to be told I wasn't getting compensation!!!! I wanted an apology and to be listened too. Very poor service and the owner clearly requires some basic coaching in business management/ property maintenance. Very disappointed. ( Skyes cottages also agreed with me that this is unacceptable)

Dear guest, I would to say, as the owner of Miner Jack's, that I appreciate all my feedback as it is my intention that any visit to my property is enjoyable and fulfilling. Please accept my full apology that you did not enjoy your stay. I was not aware of any direct attempt to contact me and had I been, I would have been more than willing to discuss your negative comments. As I live not too far away, I visit the property on a regular basis and have a brilliant cleaning team, and without photographic evidence I simply cannot accept the claim that there was dog mess on the upstairs carpets. Please do share such evidence with Sykes Cottages if you still feel that this particular issue needs investigating. Kind regards. Property Owner

Nice cottage, although was cold when we first went in and disappointing that there were only 2 logs to burn on the fire, lovely area to stay we were very comfortable in the cottage and thank you for the Yorkshire tea bags and cookies

  • "A beautiful place to stay!"

The cottage was really lovely, cosy and spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and good wifi and phone signals. Take note of the instructions for small car only as parking really is very tight and there are no alternative places to park. The location was great for exploring the local area but disappointing to find you are not able to access the beach at Port Mulgrave due to the pathway being lost in a landslide nearly 2 years ago. The nearest beach is a 30 min walk followed by very steep access down so maybe not a walk with young children. We had a great time fossil hunting around the Whitby area with some lucky finds! Definitely a place we will come back to.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
