  • "A fabulous week in a beautifully decorated cottage in a beautiful area."

The cottage was very comfortable especially the beds, we all slept very well, especially after days spent walking quite a few miles rediscovering old Lead Mines and discovering others. A well equipped kitchen, a good sized fridge/freezer a bonus as we cooked every evening except one. The lovely hot water was also very welcome, although we were a bit cold in the evenings as the cottage takes time to warm up even with the heating settings turned up, however it was quite a cold week and we managed. If I could just make one suggestion it would be to put some blinds/curtains in the kitchen this would make for more cosiness and privacy. May we recommend The Red Lion, Langthwaite, Raby Castle, White Scar Caves, Reeth Swaledale Museum and Keld Heritage/Resource Centre and Farm Tea Room as excellent places to stop off and/or visit.

Thank you for your lovely feedback and your really helpful comments regarding the blinds. We will definitely look at getting these installed to give more privacy. I’m sorry that we didn’t get to meet you but glad you had such a great week. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage."

Very remote and peaceful. Owner provided a bottle of wine for our arrival, which was a lovely touch. Owner also popped by to make sure all was ok. I would recommend a stay here for couples and their dog as some lovely walks. I would just add to make sure you get essentials in as a long way to the shops if you forget anything!

Thank you for your lovely feedback Janet and we’re so glad you had a lovely time in Swaledale. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very clean, comfortable and warm."

It is in a beautiful location. Kate the owner was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed with 2 young puppies, a St Bernard and labrador (Yogi and Molly), the cottage was very suitable as it had a track immediately outside the front gate with lovely walks. We will be booking again. Michelle and Alan, Yogi and Molly.

Thank you for your lovely review Michelle and Alan. It was a pleasure having you all and you and the dogs are welcome back any time - beautifully behaved dogs and the cottage was left in a perfect state so thank you! Property Owner

Definitely go back, and although we didn’t meet the owner, she did text us to see if everything was okay.

  • "The cottage was clean and the bedding was gorgeous but that's the only thing ..."

The cottage was clean and the bedding was gorgeous but that's the only thing that I can say on the plus side the single sofa chair is the most uncomfortable chair I have ever sat in and the two seater sofa was tiny my husband likes to lounge at night but this was not big enough and hes only 5ft2inch as for the dining room chairs i sat on one and my bottom nearly hit the floor plus we were so cold we ended up coming home early on Wednesday cutting our holiday short because the only place we could get warm was in bed i had thought i would have a warming bath but the water runs that slow it would have taken for ever to fill the bath all in all a very disappointing holiday

Oh goodness Gloria I’m so sorry you had such a disappointing time! We will definitely have a think about the chair situation; it isn’t something that anyone has mentioned before but we will see if maybe something has broken in the seats. In terms of the heating, I did notice that the radiators were turned right down when I did the changeover. I wonder if you missed the instructions on how to turn them up? I am so sorry that you didn’t enjoy your holiday and we will look into improving things. Property Owner

  • "Enjoyed our stay you do need to do front of fence as my dog got out apart from that love the cottage"

Hi Gordon and thank you for your lovely review. Really glad you had a great time. I can confirm that we have put fencing up along the front side of the wall so hopefully this should now make the garden more dog-proof. Appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again. • "We had a lovely one week holiday in this charming and comfortable cottage which was well presented."

My only recommendations is that with this being dog friendly I'd have liked the small front yard secured much better with secure fencing along the front stone wall as this had a drop right below, a secure rope around the gate rather than a small latch and finally the yard would have benefited greatly with a small table and chairs.

Thank you for your great feedback Simon and we will certainly take that on board and implement these things as soon as possible. Glad you had a lovely stay and hope to see you again. Warm wishes x Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely few days in Swaledale staying at 2 Brown Hill."

We were the first guests hosted by Kate, and she was very pro-active in checking whether we had everything we needed and ensuring that we knew how to adjust the heating, use the TV etc. Very welcoming and helpful - booked us a table at the Punchbowl for supper one night, as we didn't have a mobile signal. The cottage is very handily located with walks from the door - a lovely quiet, rural retreat. We had a very comfortable stay.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Really useful and we really enjoyed having you to stay. Property Owner

About the location

REETH

Leyburn 8 miles; Richmond 11 miles; Barnard Castle 15 miles; Kirkby Stephen 22 miles.

The pretty, ever-popular village of Reeth rests at the northern tip of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where Arkengarthdale and Swaledale meet, nestled between Calver Hill, Fremington Edge and Harkerside. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with lovely rolling hills and spectacular views, Reeth boasts a colourful history as it was originally a Saxon settlement, and has also been known as a lead mining town and a centre for hand knitting throughout its time. Both trades are proudly featured in the Swaledale Museum, located alongside a good range of shops, tea rooms and restaurants. For a quaint little community, Reeth is well-served by traditional inns, with three to choose from, including the lovely Buck Hotel, whitewashed like so many of the 18th century cottages huddled around the triangular village green. The historic market towns of Richmond and Leyburn are also within easy reach, offering a further selection of amenities. Askrigg is just a short drive away, as well as Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater and Hardraw Force (England's highest single drop waterfall at 99ft). Reeth offers a fantastic base for exploring North Yorkshire's beautiful, sweeping countryside, whether you choose to discover the caves, cliffs, waterfalls or the plethora of walking and cycling routes that circle this vibrant and varied landscape.
