  • "Beautiful, comfortable house a short stroll from the centre of Alnwick."

Very warm & cosy, comfortable bed, lovely shower and easy to park outside. Our first visit to Northumberland and this was a perfect base and location to explore from, we even had a day trip to Edinburgh on the train! Make sure you visit Barter books just down the road. The excellent welcome hamper was the icing on the cake.

Thanks Michelle for giving such a nice review. Edinburgh is a great city with lots to do and see and it was very shrewd of you to take the opportunity! Barter Books is a gem. Property Owner

Hi Louise, Thanks for the great review, especially as storm Babete was not very kind during your stay. Hope you had a pleasant journey back to Switzerland. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at 19 Duke Street in October."

This is a beautiful house with absolutely everything we could have wished for. The sky lounge had incredible views and was so peaceful.Being able to park outside the property and stroll into the centre of Alnwick was a huge bonus. The location of the house is ideal and although it is in a terrace, we never heard any noise from the neighbours. The welcome hamper was very much appreciated - thank you! We will definitely be returning next year. Sue, Philip and Stuart.

Thank you Sue, Philip and Stuart for the excellent review. We are always glad when guests really like staying at Duke Street. The Sky Lounge at the top of the house is a bit of an experiment, it is so different from the vibe of the rest of the house. We are lucky in having a place so near the centre of town but also being in a quiet and peaceful cul-de-sac, and close to beach and countryside too. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. • "All the previous reviews are spot on this is a great house!"

It's a spacious, well positioned, cosy ,well equipped 3 bedroom house with a lovely new sky lounge, ideal for couples or families. It is ideally placed for visiting Alnwick Castle and Gardens,Alnwick Town and Barter books and surrounding attractions. We had a lovely holiday here and would definitely stay here again if we were visiting the area.

Hi Linda, Thanks for the fantastic review, it means a great deal to us. We are really pleased that you liked the house and felt cosy there. As you say there is great deal to see and do within walking distance, and the coast, Kielder, and the National Park are only a short distance by car. We do hope you visit again. Property Owner

  • "This property is an absolute gem and perfect as a base for exploring Northumberland."

Spacious, homely and well-equipped, 19 Duke Street is a real home from home. The top floor "sky lounge" was an added bonus and gave our boys their own space in which to chill out. We would highly recommend a stay at this property to anyone wanting to visit Alnwick and the surrounding area.

Hi Kirsty, you made our day commenting favourably on the Sky Lounge. We thought that teenagers, especially, would appreciate it. The Sky Lounge has a completely different vibe to the rest of the house. There is a lot to see and do in the Alnwick area and along the coast and thanks for using Duke Street as your base. Thanks for the kind comments and hope that you will stay with us again. Property Owner

  • "This was a gorgeous house, spotlessly clean, comfortable, spacious and perfectly situated."

Lovely touch from the owners with the little welcome pack. We would like to think we'll return here, there's so much to see and do in the area.

Thank you Tracey, it is very kind of you.. Yes, Alnwick is surrounded by countryside but is only 15 minutes from the coast (and the East Coast railway to Edinburgh and York). We are glad that your party had a good experience. Well done on your charity walk, you will know the coast between Alnmouth and Bamburgh better than we do! Property Owner

  • "Firstly location ideal easy walk into Alnwick for shopping ,evening meal or browsing."

Easy walk to Alnwick castle, or gardens, bus stop a few minutes walk ,on street parking but never had a problem. 19 Duke Street spotlessly clean and very well equipped with all you need for your stay, tea coffee biscuits crisps & wine all waiting for you on arrival , we did find double bed a bit squeaky on our first night so changed to other room after that and lovely and comfortable, would recommend Duke Street And would stay here again when in the area,

Thanks Robert for your kind comments and recommendation. We will look into the problem you had when the house is free again. Alnwick is a lovely part of the county and we hope you will come back soon. Property Owner

We had everything we needed in this lovely cottage and touches like the welcome basket, milk and a bottle of wine on our arrival were really appreciated. The cottage it'self is clean and well equipped and is located within walking distance of Alnwick town and all its attractions. Parking was easy and we had good directions and communication from the owners. Would definitely recommend.

We are really glad that you had an enjoyable stay. Northumberland also has some of the best coastline and beaches; Alnmouth, Boulmer, Buddle Bay and Bamborough up to Lindisfarne. Thanks for the recommendation too. Property Owner

19 Duke Street is a very cosy and comfortable cottage, in a great location. We really enjoyed being able to leave the car and walk to Alnwick castle. The Easter card and welcome pack were thoughtful gestures which were much appreciated. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend 19 Duke Street to others.

Thank you Rachel, that is very kind. The cottage is well positioned for the Castle, Barter Books, the Alnwick Garden, Hulne Park, Aln Valley Light railway, town centre and out of town shops. We were lucky with the weather too! Property Owner

  • "We stayed at 19 Duke Street over Christmas."

The owners had decorated the place beautifully for the festive season and left us a lovely welcome pack including prosecco and mince pies. We stayed for a little over a week so got to know the house well. It was more spacious than we were expecting, all of the rooms (including the bathroom) are of a more generous size than we initially expected from a terraced house. The kitchen was well equipped, the living and dining rooms had everything we needed, and the beds were very comfy with lovely warm duvets, even though it was the middle of winter. At the bottom of the road is Barter Books where we could have spent our entire holiday just browsing. The rest of the town centre is just 5-10 minutes walk away, and Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle are each about 15 minutes walk (or a short drive of course). Alnwick is perfectly placed for exploring Northumberland's beautiful countryside and coast, and Duke Street is only 5 minutes from the A1 so it's easy to get around. There are convenience stores and a Lidl just around the corner, or larger supermarkets just a few minutes away by car. We were able to park right outside the house, although Duke Street is quite narrow so if like us you have a larger car you have to park it half up on the pavement. All the neighbours do the same though, so it's not a problem. In summary: we had a fantastic time at this property and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a short or longer break in this area.

Well we are really pleased by this review. It is very thoughtful and detailed. We are extremely pleased that you had a happy and memorable Christmas. Thanks again for the recommendation. Property Owner

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
