  • "Fantastic cottage, right in centre of alnwick."

Unfortunately we had to come home a day early due to our elderly dog not being able to settle. Definitely come back in the future and book this cottage no complaints

Dear Joanne, thank you for your positive feedback. We've worked hard to address any previous comments and am pleased you enjoyed Alnwick and the cottage. Property Owner

  • "Very impressed with this well equipped and cosy town house."

It had everything we needed, in an ex cellent location. New heating system guaranteed us a warm welcome after days out in and around Alnwick. Peaceful evenings and yet in the heart of town, it was a perfect place for a family holiday. Will definitely be back!

Dear Julie, many thanks for your positive feedback and I'm glad the recent improvements made your holiday more enjoyable - especially pleased to hear the new heating system and boiler are performing well. Since your stay, we've removed the old gas fire from the Dining Room and had the cottage recarpeted throughout. We've also changed the layout of the twin bedroom to accommodate the upstairs TV as this is more likely to be where children are staying. We will visit again in Jan/Feb to replace the sofas in the Lounge. Hopefully this will make the lounge more comfortable for guests. Property Owner

  • "Great property."

A little old fashioned, but in a good way. Keeps in character with Alnwick. Location is perfect for strolls into Alnwick to visit the bars, pubs and restaurants. Alnmouth beach is only a 10 minute drive away and other great beaches 20/25 mins away. Plenty of space and the property had everything we needed. Only a very small rear yard but when you are out and about all day this doesn't really matter. We will definitely consider booking here again next summer.

Ian, thanks for your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed the property and Alnwick. Hopefully see you again next year with new carpets, new lounge suite and a new bathroom. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay here."

Very homely, clean and great location.

Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. I visited the property this weekend and sorted all the curtains, put a new TV in Bed 1, installed a new heating system and a new fire/CO alarm system. I hope this makes the property even more enjoyable. Alan Property Owner

  • "The house was clean and well situated but it needs updating."

There is no TV in the bedroom which was very disappointing when there with a teenager. The sofas are badly in need of replacing as they're very uncomfortable. Alnwick was lovely but the house needs modernisation and the promise of a second TV played a large part of our booking. It not being there was very disappointing.

Dear Scott Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that the lack of a second TV detracted from your holiday. I am travelling to Alnwick in early August with a replacement TV. The previous one broke and was removed without my knowledge. I will also consider replacing the sofas when I conduct substantial refurbishment works in November. 8th Aug 2023 I have just returned from the property and replaced the TV in Bed 1. Kind regards Alan Property Owner

  • "Terrible. Curtains falling off tracks, bathroom taps need attention, shower curtain mouldy, damp on the back bedroom wall above the door, bathroom flush unreliable."

Outside courtyard filthy (furniture and ground), kitchen too narrow to use properly, parking space far too small. Otherwise the whole house needs closing down and reburbishing before it is let again. We won't be using Sykes again.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the property. I note the issues you have raised and will take steps to remedy where possible this weekend. I can't do anything about the size of the kitchen it is a galley kitchen and parking can be difficult in Alnwick. I think your critique is overly harsh. The shower curtain was replaced as soon as you raised the concern there was one curtain falling of its track that has now been remedied and the damp you mention was not damp but a stain from a previous now fixed leak. Note: 8 Aug 23. I have just returned from the property and found it to be as comfortable as always. I have installed a new heating controller a new TV in Bed 1 and a Firestick on the Lounge TV. I shall be returning in October to supervise the fitting of a new Bathroom new Carpets and a new sofa. Property Owner

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
