  • "We had a lovely stay at Lapwing Cottage."

The cottage was in an ideal location for exploring the area. It was around 5 minutes drive from Bamburgh and located opposite Budle Bay which made for a stunning view. The property had everything we needed. It was a perfect size for our family. Beds were comfortable. It was clean and tidy. We couldn’t find any fault with the property and would highly recommend it.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review Matthew, your feedback is really appreciated, great to hear the cottage helped make your stay in Northumberland an enjoyable one. Property Owner

  • "What a beautiful cottage in a most amazing place."

The second bedroom is very small. And doesn’t have a mirror. Lovely extra bits to make it home from home. Double bed is uncomfortable. The location would be hard to bear

  • "When we stayed previously it was just coming out of covid."

So, I thought cleaning etc was difficult to keep up. This time the amount of dust, cobwebs and spiders was not what I expected. There was cobwebs on the table with lamp and cd player. I used the brush in cupboard to remove webs from bathroom, double bedroom, the webs were on the wall down to the headboard. There is a hoover that if used properly would remove unwanted dust/ webs. The rubber bath mat in the bath, was disgusting, black mould on the underneath. I know that the cottage as a septic tank, but there are natural products that can remove mould/dirt from plastic shower surround and sealant. I know the change over is time critical. But by just leaving products on to work, doing other cleaning, then returning would make a difference.

Hi Tracy - I am so sorry that the cottage wasn’t up to standard with the cleaning. The ceilings are very high and it is difficult to get up there however lower level should be cleaned thoroughly for every arrival, dust and cobwebs on surfaces is not acceptable. I did visit on Saturday 25th and spent a lot of time cleaning into corners and areas that may have been missed at turn around and I have replaced the bath mat. I hope this didn’t spoil you stay too much and you still managed to have an enjoyable week. Kind regards, Grace Property Owner

  • "Thanks for the lovely stay!"

The cottage is beautiful- we loved the decor and furnishings and the garden! The location is also great with the beach being so nearby. The only slight problem was that the lock needs replacing/mending on the front door but other than that it was spotless.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay and loved the cottage. Thank you for the note about the front door, I will get someone to take a look at the lock. Property Owner

Thank you Matthew, I love it when guests enjoy the cottage and have a great holiday, it is a little gem and in a perfect position to visit the local attractions, I appreciate you kind words. Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic stay and the cottage was a perfect place to enjoy all the beauty of the area."

Lapwing has everything you could wish for although we would suggest a soft broom in the store cupboard as we (even on holiday) like to clean up a little. Altogether Lapwing is a surprisingly large and accommodating place to stay and we would not hesitate to stay again.

I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the cottage Tony, thank you for the positive feedback. Sorry the broom had gone missing, I will make sure it is replaced. It would be lovely to have you back again sometime Property Owner

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Lapwing cottage."

Everything is provided to make your stay the best it can be. Cottage is spacious, comfortable, and inviting. The log fire in recent weather's was very welcomed (currently, some of the best value logs are available from the little independent food store in seahouses). The only thing I didn't realise from the pictures is that there is a road between the back of the property and where you get down to the beach - I had imagined a field at the back of the house and then straight to the beach. Nonetheless, still enjoyed our stay immensely and will head back in the future. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your feedback Katie, so pleased you enjoyed your stay and the were comfortable in the cottage. Property Owner

  • "This Cottage suited us perfectly."

It’s of a very high standard, the location is far enough away from the main touristy areas but within reach of local services. We’ve stayed in another four cottages in Northumberland and this is head and shoulders above the others. We’ve been home less than 24 hours and we would return there right now if it were possible. Lapwing is a gem.

  • "This was our fourth year in a row at Lapwing."

We shall be back in 2019. We find the property and its position ideal. We don’t bring a car and find the bus services excellent to go up and down the coast. A simple and relaxing break.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
