  • "Hi, we enjoyed staying at your property as the location is great with wonderful beaches and walks, and it has private parking, but thought you would like our feedback about a few things- the main gate needs painting (looks very tatty and not a good first impression)and the fixing screws were falling out so the catch was falling off, - I reported this to the office, and it was fixed quickly."

The patio garden area is need of a tidy up and weeding- there are a lot of fallen sticks, twigs, leaf debris which needs clearing away. The garden furniture needs some teak oil treatment as looking dry and tired, The front door is fiddly to open but we managed to work it out, and I think previous guests had a similar problem. The kitchen sink cold tap was continually dripping badly and I reported it to the office as think it needs a new washer. The Aga is great ( we have one too) but think it needs a service as the bottom oven is not very hot. The top oven is great for cooking and we used the bottom oven for warming. The control panel needs hoovering out as full of dust. Think it will get very hot in the main living room in summer with Aga on - we were opening all the windows as it was very warm in there, (lovely in winter). Some hooks near the front door would help to hang dog leads and coats - the ones in the cupboard are very high up and difficult to reach. The beds are very comfortable and the cottage is very quiet. We hope to return.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed the property and hope to return. the main gate has been scheduled to be painted but due to continuous bookings and wet weather it hasn't been done. Control cupboard of the aga will ways collect dust, as we are sure you know with agas, and is not used by guests as we leave that to the aga engineer. In summer, if very hot, we turn the aga right down as there are alternative cooking facilities. Front door has had the lock changed so we are surprised that this has been tricky, will look at this. Once again, so pleased that you enjoyed it and we thank you for your feedback Property Owner

It was warm, comfortable and well equipped. Well placed for the village, golf club and walk down to the beach. We hope to stay again. The only addition would be some hooks to hang your coats, especially as we had a couple of rainy days, but otherwise perfect!

So pleased that you loved it and had a great time. The new hooks are up in the utility room. Many thanks Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in fabulous location."

Very clean and tidy when we arrived. All the basics required to start your holiday provided. Few minor points/suggestions: No padlock on gate as mentioned in joining instructions. No coat hooks! Could really do with something like this just inside the cottage for coats, towels and dog leads. We didn’t need it but perhaps someone not used to a log burner might appreciate more directions on how to use. Also there needs to be a proper fire glove provided, not the extremely holey two fingered one left. Crockery was a right mismatch. Not enough to fill the dishwasher (which had no cutlery box) so had to be put on more regular than should. Corkscrew is broken and needs replacing. A suggestion book in the accomodation might let managing company resolve issues more quickly? Overall a fabulous stay, now I just have to buy an Aga for home as my wife fell in love with the one in the property.

Thanks for the feedback, corkscrew replaced and new fireglove coming. The dishwasher has a cutlery drawer, apologies if you were not aware of this. Not sure about the crockery comment though, there are 8 matching bowls, plates and side plates of a design. 8 white mugs plus extras, espresso cup? Property Owner

We headed north to the joiners arms on day 1 and south to craster on day 2. Well equipped and great finish. A bit tight on the logs, thankfully we read a review to the same effect and brought some. Same with the dishwasher tablets. Lovely and warm when we arrived and the aga was a nice touch.

So pleased you enjoyed it, thank you for your comments Property Owner

  • "This is our second stay here, and I would definitely stay here again."

The cottage is lovely and in a really quiet spot. However, there are a couple of things that need attention that many others reviewers have commented upon. The aga wasn't hot enough to cook on. The radiators were all switched off when we arrived and we couldn't find any information on how to use them in the cottage information book, which is surprisingly sparse. The welcome pack of a couple of hotel biscuit packs, a micro washing up bottle, 2 dishwasher tablets and a couple of sachets of tea/coffee is woeful. Every other cottage provides wine, bread, milk, biscuits etc, but this one is pitiful. Only one toilet roll provided and the upstairs bath doesn't drain. The bedroom rug has really seen better days. Also the garden needs some TLC. However, its a lovely cottage, well laid out, warm once the radiators were sorted, near to the friendly pub and excellent hotel and is ideally situated for the beach and travel to other tourist attractions. Just a little more attention to detail needed.

  • "Based on previous reviews we were a little apprehensive about cottage cleanliness etc."

Thankfully it would appear that previous issues have been resolved, property was clean and comfortable. Issue with door lock on arrival (this has been highlighted in previous reviews). Call to Northumbria Cottages, member of maintenance team arrived and after a few attempts key worked but lock was changed following morning to avoid us being locked out again. Very efficient response but could have been avoided had issue been resolved when first highlighted. Only one bedside lamp working, no spare bulbs in cottage.....may be an idea to have a box with some spares. No starter pack for fire but we did leave some logs/kindling for next guests........may be a good idea to let guests know that the starter pack is dependent on previous guest's generosity (it is not being provided by the owners!). A suggestion for the welcome pack.....some Nespresso capsules or at the very least let guests know that you have a Nespresso machine in the cottage and they may like to bring some capsules. We did manage to find some in Alnwick......we left some for the next guests. Despite above small issues we did enjoy our stay in East Croft........some additional small suggestions - rug and upstairs bedroom carpet could maybe do with a freshen up and downstairs bedroom could be warmed up with the addition of some rugs as it felt a little cold.

Thank you for your comments We are very pleased to hear that the cleaning has been improved, we have been working hard as a team to resolve this. Disappointed re the logs. It was the management's decision that a starter pack is left and if used by guests guests replace what is used. Not every guest uses them. It is not about generosity, but replacing what one uses. We are rethinking this approach and have raised it with the team. We are delighted that the lock was sorted promptly, just sorry that it was an issue for you on arrival. That lock has been replaced and adjusted many times so we asked for a different style to be installed. This is a fully managed property as we don't live nearby but have, however, been recently visiting regularly. We are determined that these beautiful cottages continue to give enjoyment to our many new and returning guests. We did visit last Friday and noticed that the rug had not come up brilliantly in cleaning so replaced it so that has aleready happened. We didn't notice any problem with the carpet upstairs but will ofcourse keep a check. The Nespresso machine is there for those who like it and pods are supposed to be left. Clearly this is not happening so we will remove it. There were rugs in the bedrooms but they are no longer there so we will replace. Some people consider them a slip hazard, it is very much personal taste. Personally, I love them but my dog does too! We are working with management team at the moment to ensure that thorough checks are made constantly. Good idea re the bulbs, we will ensure that the supply is always topped up. We are also considering a reviewing guests, as in air bnb, so that the system is fairer. The property is being redecorated, we have finally managed to block out a few days for this as it is, as we are sure you are aware, extremely popular. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. • "Fabulous location, very comfortable cottage."

Just some minor issues - Disappointing welcome pack. Some foodstuffs left in the kitchen cupboard by previous visitors. No starter pack for the log burner (a few tiny twigs in the burner???) As reported by a previous visitor, the front door lock is very difficult to operate - not great when it’s pouring down! Otherwise, a very enjoyable stay.

  • "The property is ideally situated in the lovely village of Embleton and very close to the beach."

The rooms are spacious and generally the facilities are good although the inside of the property is a bit tired and could do with a spruce up. There were some issues with the overall cleanliness of the property - for example the water in the bath would not drain away due to the mass of hair which had collected in the waste outlet. The fittings in the upstairs bathroom were rusty. There was no starter pack of logs and the “welcome pack” was disappointing. The garden was awash with dead leaves. There were no cleaning materials at all in the cottage so nothing to wipe down kitchen surfaces. Overall we enjoyed our stay but a few small extras such as a couple of beside rugs, a shelf in the downstairs shower for toiletries and an ice tray would be useful.

  • "We were very comfortable."

We loved the Aga which kept us warm and was invaluable for drying damp things on the rail. Embleton is definitely to be recommended as a good base. The Greys Inn provided good meals on several nights, likewise the shop selling upmarket goods, papers, P.O. facilities for cash. We needed the local friendly garage to repair a windscreen wiper problem. All these within easy walking distance. Two things to mention: The cottage description tells of two steps down to the bedroom but fails to mention the 13 steps to the other bedroom. OK for us but maybe not for others. Secondly, the bath takes a LONG time to drain; even drainage from taking a shower in the bathroom leaves a drainage problem with dark hair present! (not ours'!)

Really pleased that you were comfortable at East Farm Croft and Embleton is definitely lovely. Did you try the local shop, too? Re the bath, we will certainly get the cleaners to look at this, so thank you. Re the stairs, we mention the steps to the ground floor bedroom but we have never before had anyone mention the stairs. Probably because stating one ground floor implies that the other is not. But thank you for your comments and once again we are so pleased that you had a lovely comfortable time Property Owner

Ideally situated in a lovely village, great for walks and a lovely local pub. There were 4 adults and we had plenty of room, facilities are great having a double bedroom each with private bathrooms. Plenty of seating space with a lovely large table for evenings cooking on the agar, which is fantastic! The cottage was very clean on arrival with a lovely welcome pack with some lovely treats in it. The outside seating area is a sun trap and loved sitting outside with a glass or 2 of wine just totally relaxing. Can’t wait to go back to our little piece of heaven ❤️

  • "TERRIBLE experience."

Accommodation DIRTY. Sofa covers, cushions, seat pads, lampshades VERY grubby and stained. Dining tray found on top of 'fridge full of dirt and dead flies. Floor in kitchen / living / lower bedroom / hallway areas filthy. Skirting boards throughout the property filthy, paintwork VERY chipped and in need of repair / painting. Deep cleaning team sent into property twice during our stay so we had to vacate the property twice but cleanliness issues remained. First team had very little impact and property remained dirty, hence visit by Cleaning Supervisor and second Deep Clean team. No cleaning materials eg disinfectant, bleach, bathroom / kitchen cleaning fluids in the accommodation, not even washing up liquid! No welcome pack. Informed on arrival 'The Aga isn't working, but this won't affect hot water supply'. It did !!! No hot water on second day. Had to wait in the property to give them access. After a while the plumber told us we needed to use the immersion heater (switch labelled 'Do not Use' ). Property in need of refurbishment, and therefore NOT as described on the website. Garden maintenance required too. Weeds +++ and debris and garden furniture dirty. Weeding and garden furniture cleaned by second cleaning team. Unfortunately they didn't clean the inside of the property as promised. Dirt and dead flies in the lower bedroom under bed and on skirting board behind bed. Above issues had been raised by previous guests. We have photos / videos but no opportunity to upload with this review. The member of staff (Cleaning Supervisor) who came to see us at the property on Monday 11th September agreed with ALL our concerns and agreed a second deep clean was required. No other property in Embleton available for us to relocate too. We did not stay for the full week. We have complained, with photographic / video evidence to support our complaint. We await a response. We feel traumatised by our stay at this accommodation.

Firstly, as owners we take the comfort of our guests very seriously and work to continually upgrade and improve these very much-loved properties. As we are sure you are aware, this is one of the most popular cottages and as such there are limited times to access for redecoration. It is a fully managed property so we were not aware of your unhappiness until later. Rest assured, we are in discussion with management and would also welcome the opportunity to talk to yourselves directly. We have been informed that cleaners were sent in as soon as they were notified. We understand that you notified them the day after your arrival. Ofcourse, this should not have been necessary and for that we are profoundly apologetic. As for a welcome pack, we pay for and understand that there are logs for the log burner, lovely biscuits, a small amount of washing up liquid etc. There were also coffee pods. If this was not there then we certainly apologise. We understand that housekeeping sent a hamper and asked what they could do to make you more comfortable, which we appreciate. The aga had been switched off due to the heatwave. The engineer was there on your arrival day to relight and turn it to low but you declined, saying that you didn't want it. This did cause an issue as the engineer had to rebook and his time is precious but he obliged. We are sorry if it wasn't then explained that the immersion then needs to be switched on. We understand that you left on the Thursday instead of early Friday morning. We are ofcourse upset to have unhappy guests. Most guests love the properties and there are many, many positive reviews and returning clients. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss this with you personally Property Owner

Cottage could be fantastic - it looks lovely, but small things could be improved, things that you wouldn’t expect for the price paid - cushions, blankets on sofas and sofa covers were obviously not washed regularly, looked grubby - for the first 24 hrs had to use downstairs en suite as upstairs sink overflowed. Plumber came; it was resolved but this has happened before and is an ongoing issue

Thank you for your feedback, so pleased you like the property. The upstairs basin has now been fixed, as soon as we were alerted to the temporary problem. The sofas are newly replaced as we are continually upgrading. We do ask people to not allow animals on the furniture. We will certainly mention the cushion covers to housekeeping who normally do a good job. The property is very well loved and rarely vacant as we are sure you are aware. Property Owner

The cleaning was not good, a lot of dust in corners and floors. There are stains on the cushions and chair covers. There is an ironing board but no iron ? There is only just enough crockery for 4 people. There isnt a mirror in the upstairs bedroom. In the upstairs bathroom the sink only drains very slowly, [nearly blocked?] The shower control is almost coming apart and only just works. the underfloor heating doesnt seem to work ? There was no soap in the bathroom s. No shower mat in top bathroom. A thimble of wash up liquid. Coffee machine but not even a single pod for it. The shower pump and water tank are very noisy - needs noise insulation . The Aga would be good in cold weather but often far too hot in the summer. Lastly we noticed bad staining on the mattress protector upstairs. We wanted to communicate these problems to you before the next people arrive but could see no way to contact you formally until this email which is really far too late for that next guests. I hope you can improve these things and I hope that you will get back to us to confirm that things have been resolved many Thanks

Firstly, we apologise for the late response but this was not made public until recently. As it is a fully managed property we do not have access to clients personal contact details. We appreciate that you sent a non published email to alert us so are unsure as to why it has just appeared. The aga is turned down if clients request it. Northumberland weather can be unpredictable so many clients appreciate it. Issues were all resolved immediately, however, so we thank you for your feedback. Again, we do not understand why an email has only just been published, hence the delayed response. Thank you for the feedback, the shower was actually replaced immediately. Property Owner
