  • "A well presented and equipped cottage with exceedingly good views over the bay."

The cottage was very clean and tidy on our arrival and it's location suited us. There were a few very minor niggles that I have reported to the owner and he has said he will look into these points. A note relevant to anyone looking to stay in early November: the cottage is about 200m from where the annual town bonfire is lit on 5 November (we didn't know this). Our dog, a timid border collie was terrified on this night; shaking and panting uncontrollably from the effects of the aerial bombs and flashes in the sky. This is the only reason I have given 4* - any other period and it would have been 5*. I have asked the owner if he will include a note in his property description to highlight the closeness of the property to the bonfire site.

Thank you for your review and direct feedback which we will aim to address, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The bonfire location does change from time to time, however, in future years we will ask the agents to advise guests staying around November 5th that there may be fireworks close by. We hope to welcome you to Longstone again in the future Property Owner

  • "A really lovely village with good amenities."

The property was very hard to find, as the weather was atrocious and it was very dark when we arrived. There isn't a sign regarding the name of the cottage for anyone to follow, or lighting on the unmade road and driveway. This was very dangerous for me as I had to look on foot for the cottage. Because the drive was unlit the alternative footpath was not seen due to this being in the dark. The path needs lighting, also. However, there is one outside light attached to the house which lit the doorway only. Part of the gravel drive is on a slope and the gravel is loose and skiddy making it difficult for a car to drive on. Can I also suggest that the bathroom blind needs fixing - I realised when anyone goes to the bathroom at night other people from neighbouring cottages could see into the bathroom. We had to place a towel over the window. After this little moan, I am very happy to say that the cottage itself was very comfortable, warm, cozy, and like a home from home. The view is to die for and the beds were lovely and comfy. One other downside - we had to come home! We had a lovely time and would certainly visit again and recommend it to anyone. Thank you, Kind regards, Julie Firth

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Longstone Cottage. I am pleased to hear that overall you found the cottage comfortable, warm and cozy and enjoyed your stay. We do hope to see you again. We are very sorry to hear that you had difficulty finding the property on arrival and will look into how we can improve directions and signage for future guests. We are aware of the lack of lighting in the courtyard and on the approach to the cottage and will raise the issue with the other owners in the complex to see if we can come up with a solution. A Longstone we do provide a torch in the cottage for this purpose given there is no lighting outside apart from the light attached to the property, however, we appreciate this would not help on arrival especially in the atrocious weather you experienced. We were not aware of a problem with the bathroom blind and we will have this fixed at our earliest opportunity. Thank you for your feedback Property Owner

  • "Third time we have stayed."

That must say something. Would like a steamer sauce pan. Upstairs east window needs cleaning. Needs a extending mop for cleaner to reach? Toilet flush and basin tap very stiff to opperate.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Longstone again - we do appreciate it and value your feedback too. The windows are cleaned every two weeks using a reach n wash system and were actually cleaned 5 days before your stay . Unfortunately storm Babet followed which , coming from the east, dirtied the windows . I hope it didn’t detract too much from the view over the castle and beach . Your other points are noted and we’ll check the flush / tap operation . We look forward to your next visit Property Owner

Comfortable . Created a great feeling of calm.Loved the large dining table.Nicely decorated and furnished. Appreciated the space- although there are only 2 of us, a property for 4 gives that extra bit of space we like. The large picture window was entertainment in itself- just watching the birds, cows, mist , sunrise and sunsets. Lovely.

  • "The location was excellent and the views indeed stunning."

The cottage was clean and the living room and bed comfortable. However the directions from Sykes were non existent (despite us sending an email) and the turning into the cottage hard to find. A mop, old bucket and vacuum cleaner greeted us in the hall. The hair dryer was found stuffed in a cupboard of cleaning products. The bathroom was generally rather shabby. The fridge door inadequately closed due to the fitted door it was attached to resulting in pools of water in the fridge and storage at a doubtful temperature. It wasn’t generously provided with toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, soap or washing up liquid (with an expectation we would leave some for the next occupant). A note suggested the cleaners would be ‘impatiently’ waiting for us at 9.30. Is it now Sykes policy to have no welcome pack, even milk?

Thank you for your feedback and positive comments following your recent stay although I'm also sorry you had some negative views. Sykes apparently no longer send out the map we have provided previously. We were unaware of that but they will in future be sending a google map location. The mop and vacuum are kept in the lobby if they were left by the front door that is an error. Please accept our apologies. The hairdryer has been returned to the bedroom drawer and we are checking the operation of the fridge freezer but suspect the freezer compartment simply needed a defrost. The bathroom as with the rest of the cottage is redecorated every year and this year we installed new pipe boxings replaced the frosted glazing and blinds. We do provide some toilet rolls dishwasher powder and other cleaning products to get guests started which seems to be well received by most guests. We hope you consider staying in Longstone again. There are easy walks straight from the door to the beach and then along the coastal path in 2 different directions. Everything we needed for a one week stay was provided in this comfortable and cosy house. I give 10 out of 10 to the cottage despite a couple of minor maintenance issues.

Hi Tracy, Thank you for your very positive feedback we are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Longstone . You don’t say what the minor maintenance issue was and I’m not aware of any note left which is a shame but we hope to see you again Property Owner

About the location

EMBLETON

Craster 3 miles; Beadnell 4 miles; Alnwick 7 miles.

The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area. For the keen golfer, Dunstanburgh Links Course is about 1 mile away - just one of several excellent courses in the vicinity.
