  • "Wonderful property in the centre on Bakewell."

I could waffle on and on regarding how lovely this house is to stay. It is warm, roomy, excellant facilities, lovely comfy beds, spotlessly clean. Thinking of booking it for next year. Very helpful owner, who kindly arranged for something I left at the property to be returned (and paid for the postage). People have said about the parking. True you can't very easily park at the house unless you have a smallish car. But there's a free space about 6 minutes walk from the house, courtesy of the owner. You can stll unload and load fine on your day of arrival and exit. Ok there's a few bits that could be improved. There's a leaking gutter, which was a bit noisy if there's a lot of rain ( which the owner has said they will fix). Some of the tiles on the floor are cracked, and a welcome pack would be nice. We did get wine ( lovely) and sweets and biscuits, but after a long drive and expecially if your an age, a cup of tea and toast is what you want. But hey I'm nitpicking. Just go, you won't be disappointed.

  • "The property is absolutely beautiful and brilliant location, only a stones throw from everything and extremely comfortable perfect for groups with nice seating area and a very well equipped kitchen."

Bathrooms are tastefully decorated and beds and linen lovely. Just be mindful it is over 3 floors so unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. The things letting it down are the small things that could be easy rectified..,lots of chipped glasses and cups and broken and chipped floor tiles. On our arrival it was chilly and the heating was on a timer which we couldn't seem to bypass but it said in the information book there was wood for the fire but unfortunately there wasn't so we had to run out and pay top money for logs from the co-op. Also the remote for the fire was broken or the batteries gone but either way it wouldn't work..I did text the owner on Friday night but they never got back to me which was a bit naughty. I know I'm being a bit picky but having booked property's for our group of friends for the last 13 years we have always arrived to a small welcome pack which I know wasn't advertised but i think is nice when your paying high end prices. Now it says parking for one car which is a bonus but the only thing its one small car no bigger than a Ford focus type and skilful driving required as you have to tuck the car away under a carport with not much room to open the car doors and remember the driver has then got to negotiate getting past the car once its parked ....you can't leave the car out to far because you will restrict the residents next door .. its EXTREMELY TIGHT . Overall a lovely place and with a bit of attention to detail and better communication from the owner it would be perfect

  • "We stayed at bank house for a friend’s birthday surprise this month."

The accommodation is simply stunning and very spacious. The layout over three floors is perfect and each bedroom designed for comfort. The bedding was hotel class. We loved the kitchen/dining and living space for entertainment and added bonus of a balcony with scenic views of Bakewell. I had regular contact with the owner who could not have been more helpful and this added to our experience - amazing!

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Bank House Mews."

The house is exceptionally clean and the beds were beautifully comfortable with wonderful crisp linen and fluffy duvets. The house is very well appointed, especially the kitchen which had every baking tray and utensil you could ever need. Bakewell is a lovely place to visit and the house is in a great location. We enjoyed walking straight out onto the Monsal Trail. There is only one parking spot at the house but the owner kindly arranged for us to park in a private car park only 500m away from the house. We would highly recommend this property.

  • "First off, the location of this property is excellent."

Less than five minutes walk from the supermarket, easy to pop in and out of town as needs be. School drop off and pick up can be a bit noisy, but we knew that from the listing. Parking was suitable for our 2003 Nissan Micra. The property itself is spacious, with great facilities. We never struggled to find anything we needed in the kitchen, and there was plenty of storage for our groceries. Everything was clean and tidy (although the beams upstairs could do with a good hoover!) and we had no trouble sleeping or with the internet. There are some maintenance issues though. Multiple cracked tiles on the floor, a missing blind in the living room, a toilet roll holder nearly coming off the wall in one of the cloakrooms etc. Nothing major, but it could do with someone going round and taking note of the issues before resolving them. Honestly, the biggest disappointment was going to light a fire in the evening to find no matches, and a grand total of 4 small logs waiting for us. For the price, we would have expected to be provided with at least one bag of logs to go along with the bag of kindling at a minimum. With no welcome parcel of any kind (not a necessity, but something that has always greeted us in far cheaper properties) it would have been nice to have at least been able to start a fire without immediately needing to go out for supplies.

  • "A lovely property IF you get the main bedroom."

The top 2 are less comfortable with one having beams that you would bash your head on. The kitchen and lounge are brilliant, as is the downstairs bedroom and en-suite. The parking is only for a small car and we were disappointed with the lack of warmth and interaction with the owner. My wife booked it and I tried to call twice, leaving a message to call me about the keys/car parking and she nobody bothered to get back to me either time. My wife eventually got an email response the week before we were due to go, and she had to push to get the details as the initial contact had been something of the lines that she would contact her soon, which she didn't. They have one key for the front door despite having the potential of 6 people there. We were told to hand the key outside. The issue with that is that you need to lock the door behind you before doing so, so how would the the other people get out!!!??? She seemed, when we asked for the wifi code on text, that we were bothering her. That was genuinely the feeling. Seeing other reviews where she couldn't do enough for them, we were massively disappointed. Nothing to criticise Sykes Cottages with, just that the lack of warmth we got from the owner, considering the price, we would expect more from them. Lovely well sited property but we'll never book there again because of the poor contact

Really did have the attention to detail. Fantastic location in Bakewell, quiet spot but close to everything. We went with 7 of us. Myself and Hubbie in ground floor room, my sister in double on 2nd floor and our 4 kids aged 10-13 in the 3rd bedroom. Worked perfectly

One small factor they could improve on is the cleanliness of the cupboards & drawers , nothing really bad at all but guessing the 'Molly Maids' are on time schedule and that this is not done on every visit. Few crumbs and a little disorganised but didn't spoil are time there and will go back again .

  • "A beautiful cottage in a superb central location."

It was obvious that no expense was spared in the renovation and furnishings in this cottage. Although we normally like cottages in a more rural location, this really does offer the best of both worlds. You step out of the door and all of the facilities, shops, restaurants and pubs are right on the doorstep and yet when you are in the property it is extremely quiet, even with an infants school next door. Because the living space is on the first floor, we didn’t feel overlooked despite the property being surrounded by other houses. The living area provides an incredibly sociable space with plenty of comfortable seating and a really nice contemporary log burner complete with remote control! The master bedroom is very spacious, the bed was huge and comfortable and the underfloor heating was a welcome luxury. We managed to park our car (a Mini) in the parking space available but you would struggle to get anything much bigger into the area. However there is a parking space available a short walk away so this really isn’t an issue. The owner was very helpful and accommodating with queries we had during our stay. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and Bakewell itself. It is a beautiful area with so many lovely walks and places to visit.
